On our maps we are seeing a lot of green sensors, except for 84 headed westbound, coming through livermore, and then also we are seeing a little bit of a backup in parts of the east bay, and then getting to the bay bridge, weve seen a heavy flow of traffic. Here the metering lights were turned on early. Major delays at the bay bridge toll plaza, so plan ahead as you get ready to head out for work this morning. Well get a look at weather and traffic. More on that coming up in a few minutes thank you, kari. Breaking news for you this morning in Contra Costa County where an officerinvolved shooting is under investigation. This happened in rodeo near third street and vallejo avenue. Police tell our crew ont out of. Investigators say that that man pulled out what the officer thought was a gun and pointed it in his direction. The officer got out of his car and fired at the suspects direction. However, that suspect was not hit. He was later taken into custody, as you see there. Today in the bays pete suratos will have a live report for us coming up at 6 30. And now to coverage of the gilroy mass shooting. The search for answers continues as to why the man opened fire on so many innocent people. Hundreds gathered last night outside of Gilroy City Hall to remember the victims of the garlic festival shooting. Many hugged each other, they were crying, remember the people who lost their lives and those horn saved. One man says he was grazed by bullets and helped pull his st my heart is grieving for families who lost loved ones. I cant imagine what theyre going through. Im just happy my family is not going through that. As for the latest, we now know the ages of the three people who died at the hands of that gunman. All of those victims were young, ages 6, 13 and 25. Seven victims are still in the hospital. Its possible authorities will hold another News Conference later today, but thats still not certain. . Just a horrific act of violence. All new this morning were hearing from one man who says he came face to face with the gunman. Today in the bays bob redell live for us at Christmas Hill park with that mans story. Bob . Reporter law camera, you can see Law Enforcement still has Christmas Hill park sealed as they map out evidence at the shooting scene. That mans name is chris. He would not give us his last name. You can see him with his wife and 13yearold daughter. Theyre from merced county, here at the gilroy garlic festival sunday to sell shaved ice. Chris tells us the 19yearold gunman entered the festival through a fence by his booth, started firing his ak47 type Assault Rifle into the crowd of people. Chris and his family hit the deck, hid underneath a table, but chris did make sure that he was still able to keep an eye on the shooter. When the gunmans rifle jammed and the ammunition clip dropped out, chris realized at that point, he better do something. So i jumped up and ran towards him, but i didnt make it all the way. He picked up his clip at that moment and he looked at me and said no. He shook his head and no out of his mouth came and i wasnt the hero. I backed up. I didnt think i was going to ma and his family did escape unhurt. In their direction. Instead, headed to where the kids were at, at the slide area, and continued shooting. Moments later three Gilroy Police officers shot and killed the suspect. Police say they responded within a minute of the start of the shooting. Chris tells us that when the gunman was alive, he appeared to be at peace, was calm, cool, smiling, didnt appear to be in a hurry. Reporting live here in gilroy, bob redell, today in the bay. How frightening. Thank you very much, bob. Authorities in nevada are still looking into what connection the gunman had to a home there and if someone tied to the home may have actually been involved. Santino legan grew up in gilroy but its believed he spent at least some time in nevada. Yesterday fbi investigators searched a home about 75 miles outside of reno, where investigators say he may have recently lived. So far we dont know what kind of evidence investigators there may have gathered. Arelso getti at the gun shop where the gunman purchased his Assault Rifle. s home. Its called big mikes guns an ammo, and its a legal authorized gun dealer. The gunman used an akstyle Assault Rifle and bought it for about 700 and even though he legally bought the gun in nevada, the Assault Rifle is not legal here in california. The owner of the gun store posted an apology on facebook. He says hes heartbroken and that the shooter ordered the rifle off of his internet page. Weve seen High Pressure over the desert southwest, bringing in more heat and humidity. Thats moving away, and its allowing for a storm system to approach across the Pacific Northwest, bringing us more of a breeze, and that coastal fog is being carried inland, and also providing some cooling, even for the valleys. Going into the weekend, though that High Pressure comes back and the valleys will warm up and although were coming up a few degrees, its this past weekend so thats good news. As San Franciscos first planned Safe Navigation Center works its way through the courts, the mayor has already picked a site for the next homeless center. The embarcadero location has already triggered lots of backlash and lawsuit from nearby residents. The city selected the Bay View District as a site for a second navigation center. Thank you, kari. Breaking news in the east bay. One man is in custody after a Police Shooting that followed a crash. Today in the bays pete suratos joins us live from the scene this morning. What do we know about the suspect, pete . Reporter good morning to you, guys. You know, the scene cleared over there in rodeo, so weve actually moved here to hercules pd, who is in charge of this investigation, but in short, this was a car pursuit that ended at a dead end in rodeo. I want to show you guys some of that video and give you some of the information we are getting from hercules police. They say a driver was pulled over for a traffic stop near willow avenue. They said he fled the scene, which led to ae in to be a gun. S object over a fence and ran away from the scene but was eventually captured by foot by those officers and taken into custody. I do want to point out officers on the scene were not able to find that object the driver threw over the fence to determine if it was a gun. The driver was taken to a hospital after complaining about medication that he swallowed but his next stop will be at the county jail. Were live here in hercules, pete suratos for today in the bay. Those whe lost, trying to just make sense of what happened. I remember you and i feel hundreds of people gathering outside out of Gilroy City Hall last night to remember the victims of the garlic festival shooting. Its possible authorities will hold another News Conference later today but thats not certain. Well continue to follow. The seven victims who were shot are still in the hospital this morning and its likely that all have a long road to recovery. Today in the bays ali wolf is live at san joses Valley Medical Center with more details on those that survived and sadly those that did not. Ali . Reporter marcus, good morning. Five of the victims are here at Valley Medical Center in san jose and were hearing a terrifying story of a couple that was shot and got in a confrontation with the suspected gunman before that shooting happened, and first we want to talk about the victims that died in this shooting, three of them, they are all very young. The oldest is 25yearold trevor irby. He recently graduated from a college in upstate new york. 13yearold Kayla Salazar from san jose also died. She got separated from her family during the panic of that shooting at the garlic festival. The third victim is 6yearold Stephen Romero. His mother and grandmother were also shot. That family is from san jose. Husband and wife who were running a booth at the festival. Take a listen as the family gunman. The first thing she did was run and confront him. She got within ten feet of him, told him a few choice words and said you are not going to do this here. This is not going to happen. He then shot her. She said he walked up to her and her husband and stood above them and asked them, are you okay . In a calm voice. Reporter absolutely terrifying. That woman says her sister and brotherinlaw played dead, and after they got shot, friends tried to come over and to help them, try to stop their bleeding. Those friends and family are now raising money for that couple through a go fund me account, as they recover, and so many people recovering physically from the shooting, and also so many people recovering emotionally as well from the shooting sunday night. Here is an alert for you this morning. Happening today, police and fire crews in san ramon will receive training on how to respond to an active shooter situation. Training gets under way at California High School at 8 00 this morning. There will be signs posted along Broadmoor Drive to alert neighbors and people driving by about the training taking place so they dont panic anyone. That training was previously scheduled before the rampage in gilroy. New this morning, italian wrapped up a News Conference a short time ago saying security cameras were used to trace the two teens to their hotels just 250 feet away from the scene. The stabbing aparentally stemmed from a fight with plain clothed officers following a drug deal gone bad. Prosecutors also just releasing a photo of the knife they say was used. Investigators say 18yearold Gabriel Hjorth and finnegan elder both of mill valley confessed to the murder during separate investigations. And another startling study shows just how hard it is for people to buy homes and to crack open the market here in the bay area. Home prices in the bay area have climbed four times faster than local incomes. Clever real estate says that means a typical family needs nearly nine times the average Household Income to buy a home. Right and so now a lot of people are having to drive and so as you are headed out on the roads this morning, we are seeing quite a few issues, so lets get to it. We are seeing in the east bay just getting to 80, its been a little bit slower. Now we have a crash on eastbound 80 at pinole valley road, trying to make it through over toward e sobrante. It will slow down there and highway 4 near antioch a crash near hillcrest avenue. Going eastbound, everything is looking good, so thats the counter commute area, so we havent seen much of a slowdown. Mass transit no delays. Everything is looking good on b. A. R. T. Ac transit as well as the ace train and ferries, no delays reported and looking at the bridge drive times, it is starting to slow down on westbound 80, across the bay bridge, at about 16 minutes right now, and so were seeing also on the san mateo bridge, going westbound, its about 18 minutes and the Richmond Bridge is taking a little bit longer than normal, and so the peninsula drive times are looking good, going on 101, both north and southbound, in the commute direction, we do have some great drive times right now. So everythings looking good for the most part, as you head out, except for the couple of spots in the east bay, and so as you get ready to head out for your drive this morning, just seeing a little bit slower in the south bay. If youre going to be driving on northbound 101 from 85 to 87, it will take you about 20 minutes right now. All right, kari. A lot of people wondering what can we do this weekend . But the good news is, its not going to be too hot. Warmer but not too hot. Its going to be warmer compared to today but it wont be extreme heat like we had this past weekend. So here we go, looking at the sevenday forecast for the inland areas, reaching into the mid 80s all week, but well peak at 92 degrees on sunday. San francisco though keeping it cool with some upper 60s, at times some clouds and fog moving through. Soccer kicks the ongoing wage debate up a notch. The pay gap has been a hot topic since the womens world cup but now Federation President released a fact sheet with what he calls some hard numbers. He says the womens team has actually been paid about 25 more over the past eight years than the mens team but the Womens National team calls those figures misleading, saying that its not an apples to apples comparison. 6 45 this morning and one of the president s closest allies is defending his honor this morning. Over the last several days i was called unpatriotic, unamerican, and essentially treasonous by a couple of left wing pundits on the basis of boldfaced lies. I was accused of aiding and abetting the very man ive singled out as an adversary and opposed for nearly 20 years, vladimir putin. The accusations come after mcconnell prevented the senate from even thinking about two bills, one that would require campaigns to alert the fbi if theyre offered help from gove. Mcconnells blocking of the bills, and they cant even be debated, comes as a bipartisan says our voting systems. Another person warning us the russians are coming is the director ofio intelligence, dan coats. He leads more than a dozen intelligence agencies ringing the alarm bell, but coats is stepping down. The president wants to replace coats with this man, john ratcliffe, who called the Russian Investigation a hoax. Its quite possible ratcliffes nomination wont get past the senate. Tonight marks the start of another set of democratic debates. This is video from a previous debate that stretched over two nights, and featured nearly 2,000 candidates. There are two more, one tonight, one tomorrow. Tonights debate features ten candidates, youll notice i got five on the board here. We in the media are guilty of looking for winners early but really its just a matter of trying to manage size and time. Buttigieg and sanders and warren they have the highest polling candidates in tonights debate. I include orourke as well. Hes not doing well but i think differentiate himself from buttigieg. Weve got fog on the coast, and clear visibility headed across the Golden Gate Bridge but were going to see this fog linger i think throughout much of the day. Thats going to keep San Francisco and the coastline cool but even as you head inland, were going to have a very nice day. Getting out the door in brentwood our temperatures in the low 60s, and our skies are clear. Well see a few clouds through about noon and then clear skies at 1 00. Were at 69 degrees. Now we are going to see those temperatur 60s in San Francisco, all throughout the week, so check out that sevenday forecast at the bottom of u the to 80 in livermore in the end of july, so this is a really nice cooldown, and it stays in the low 60s in Half Moon Bay today. Mostly some upper 50s, but later on today, youll be comfortable with some shorts on. Let me show you whats happening here. So the cooldown is on. Weve had a High Pressure moving away from the desert southwest. That caused intense heat over the weekend. A storm system is approaching the Pacific Northwest and the winds around that bringing us a stronger onshore flow, and with the fog near the coast, its carrying that cooler air even into the valleys. But then going into the weekend, we start to see that High Pressure building again in the southwest, and our temperatures go up. We also have a couple ofut in t pacific to watch. We have erick moving closer to hawaii but we have to watch flossie over the next couple of days. That track looks to be a little bit closer, going into the weekend, so ill be keeping an eye on that if you have plans or have family in hawaii. Well of course have more up dates on that. We have High Temperatures in the inland valleys in the mid 80s throughout the week and low 90s for the weekend, so we are going to peak with our temperatures on sunday. San francisco though stays in the 60s all throughout the next several days. This is a live look in dublin looking at 580. A smooth flow of traffic, and even going westbound we are seeing things looking pretty good. Looking at our traffic maps this morning, weve seen a couple of issues starting to pop up, mostly in the east bay, approaching the bay bridge. Heavy delays at the bay bridge toll plaza, and were seeing a lot of red sensors here as the cars are moving a lot slower, and looking at pinole, and pinole valley road, there is a crash going eastbound on 80, so thats not the commute direction. We havent seen any major slowdoslo slowdowns there. Moving away from the bay area and antioch we see eastbound highway 4 hillcrest avenue there is a crash but no slowdowns for the most part. Your East Bay Drive times on southbound 680 from 580 to vargas road is about 15 minutes, and then going northbound on 238 from 580 to 880 we have about a threeminute drive and southbound we are also seeing just a little bit of a slowdown, taking you 19 minutes and mass transit no delays at this point. Breaking news were following in Contra Costa County where a Police Shooting is under investigation in rodeo near third street and vallejo avenue. Police tell our crew on the scene that an officer was trying to pull over a driver, but he drove away and later crashed his car. The suspect then got out of his car and ran away. Investigators say the man pulled out what the officer thought was a gun and pointed it in his direction. The officer got out of his car and fired into the suspects direction. The suspect was not hit. He was, however, taken in to custody. Several people injured in the garlic festival rampage have now been released from the hospital. At last check seven people are still in the hospital. One person who was in Critical Condition has now been upgraded to serious condition. That patient along with four others are being treated at Valley Medical Center. Two others are getting treatment at stanford hospital. This morning, we now know the identity of all three victims killed at the garlic festival. Police still on the scene in this live look this morning. Theres memorials growing as well. 13yearold Keyla Salazar was among the victims from san jose, separated from her sister and mother during the panic. Her family members tracked her down at a local hospital but sadly, she didnt survive. The night of the shooting we spoke with the father of the youngest victim, 6yearold Stephen Romero from san jose. Stephen was going to go into the first grade. The third victim, 25yearold trevor irby, a recent graduate of a Small College in upstate new york. He was visiting the festival along with his girlfriend. She was not hurt, but no doubt her heart is broken. Hundreds gathered to remember the victims of the garlic festival shooting last night. I remember you and i feel they filled the grassy area in front of city hall. Many hugged, cried, and remembered lives lost and people saved. One man among them was justin bates. He says he was grazed by several bullets. My heart is grieving for the families that lost loved ones and im just, cant imagine what theyre going through and happy my family is not going through that. Bates says he stared at the suspected gunman in the face during the attack and during the chaos, he managed to help pull his best friends girlfriend to safety. Prosecutors told the jury derek almena and max harris disregarded human life and were indifferent to consequences specifically by inviting people to live and party in a crammed warehouse that did not meet safety codes. The two face 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, one for each victim who died in the 2016 fire. Capital one says the data on more than 100 million customers was exposed by a hacker. The ct says whoever is responsible stole personal information from credit card applications dating back to 2005.
