Keyla salazar, her sister and mom were operated and they ran into a neighbor at the high school and ran into a Good Samaritan who gave them a ride back to the car and got in their car and went to a local hospital hoping to find little keyla. But doctors gave them the tragic news kyela did not survive. The little boy we talked about at length last night, 6yearold stephen romero. He just finished kindergarten and looking forward to first grade. His father said were devastated as we all are from the community. The gunman lives a couple of miles from the gilroy garlic festival, thats where he grew up along with his family. Today federal and local agents searched his home. His name is 19yearold Santino Legan. He was living the in reno area for a little while, back here to gilroy. Authorities arent quite sure, theyre putting together the timeline. Federal and local agents did search his parents home. On instagram, which is now deleted, the Instagram Account we should note he recommended a book which is a racist manifesto popular with white sue preprema. He also wrote critical of the overcrowding in the south bay, especially by Silicon Valley whites and mixed race. He identified himself as italian and iranian. Events like this are occurring across the country. Discovered last night, that gunman broke through the fence, clipped right through, accessed the gilroy garlic festival from the creek. Also today, the fbi agent and the police chief telling me they have located the gunmans car right near the garlic festival, about a block or two away and they are actively at this hour getting a search warrant to search the car to find more clues. Also theyve searched a second residence, so they searched the parents house and a second Place Associated with the gunman. People fleeing and hundreds thousands of people fleeing. Reporter well, one family saw the shooter just seconds after he got through the fence. They say they had been at that spot a few seconds earlier, they might not be alive. He came up and was pop pop. A bad choice and about half way and then he turned around and just continued. Reporter he was here with their family in the car when gunmans rang out. Just get out of here. Reporter so he took off but not before yelling at the gunman. I called him a name. Hey, hey, knock it off, you know. Like just trying to get him to stop focusing on what he was doing. Reporter these twins were terrified. I thought my dad is going to get shot and i grabbed his shirt and tried to pull him in. The reality of what they witnessed just now starting to sink in. I would have been shot. All he had to do is turn and shoot and it would have gone through the windshield and you think it will never happen to me. It is not real life but it is real life and it did happen to me. Reporter the twins tell me that despite all of this, they refused to live their lives in fear. Saying this wont stop them from going to Public Events but theyll certainly be more aware. I said run, run, and from there on i dont remember what happened and i just remember being at the top of the hill and my leg was bleeding and i was hit and then people were helping me and trying to get me to the hospital and then my family where is my family and friends . Well there you see his wound. The bullet ricochetted before hitting his calf. His best friend justin baits also grazed by bullets at least seven times. That is him right there. So far investigators are pouring over his social media pages looking for clues and also interviewing Santino Legans family and friends. Reporter well, as you could imagine, it is a stressful time for the neighborhood. Especially because it is aimed at a family that many people here seem to like. But s. W. A. T. Teams showed up here last night and today. There was a swarm of evidence collection team. The search took place here and online. Social media accounts of 19yearold Santino Legan may provide clues to the shooting, including this festival picture posted just before the rampage sarcastically saying come get wasted on overpriced expletive and used this photo to promote author popular with white nationalists and to complain about people of mixed race and socalled Silicon Valley white trash. All are now being examined by the fbi to determine motivation, ideological leanings, was he affiliated with anyone or any group. Reporter search teams were at the home on churchill place and removed numerous items including what appeared to be a rifle bag. He used a new ak47 style assault rifle. It was purchased legally in the state of nevada on july the 9th. Reporter neighbors we talked to were understandably stunned. Horrible to think that thats what really happened. And i heard pop pop pop. Reporter festival volunteer brenda rant took this picture of legan after he was shot by officers but the most haunting image happened before this. The look on legans face as he reloaded. He seemed very calm and collected. Like he knew what he was doing. Like im going to load this gun and go. Reporter now wanda and others want and maybe need to know why because you heard raj mention earlier, the police chief and fbi say all of the clues are just a start. Our Investigative Unit confirm he was raised in gilroy and knew the area very well but moved back and forth between gilroy and the town of walker lake, nevada, where he also had family. Agents say he bought the ak47 style rifle legally in nevada like we said on july 9th. He brought it to california where possession is not legal. You could imagine this is resonating to gavin newsom and who last night tweeted about this. Today he was here in the bay area visiting the shooting victims at Santa Clara Valley medical center. One of the victims that he visited, 12yearold Leslie Andres among the survivors. You could see their photo of her with the governor. Her family got separated when the gunshots started ringing out at the festival. The idea that a 12yearold that i just met was shot in the leg, she was describing she was on a jumping house at a garlic festival. The governor went on to say hes so sorry for what happened to everyone at the festival and to what is happening to the country. Today we learned that neither one of the teens has a criminal record in their young adult lives but theyre only 18 and 19 years old. Neighbors told me elder never showed an ounce of violence, including one woman who has known him since the day he was born. Starting off on the monday forecast, into the microclimate weather this afternoon and the big headline again is the huge drop. Temperatures from 10 to 20 degrees cooler and were starting to see the changes from the system developing in the pacific northwest, it is basically help the to shove the hottest air we had this weekend well off toward the east. So i dont see any major heat in the forecast in the next couple of days just leaving us with morning fog as we start off and then afternoon sunshine. So lets bring you into tomorrow morning. Todays message was posted on the Facebook Page for big mikes guns and ammo. The message begins, we feel so very sorry for the families. I am heartbroken this could ever happen. Adding when the buyer came to claim the gun, quote, he was acting happy and showed no reasons for concern. Well we have been hearing so many terrifying stories from the gilroy garlic festival as people ran for their lives. Some people had the presence of mind and calm to record what was going on.
