Jimmy you helped launch late night and wrote on late night for years for years jimmy and created some of our favorite bits on late night. And i love you guys so much. And i miss you guys, i think about you all the time thank you jimmy some of the bits that weve done on the show together, theres so many of them but one that we were all in together was we did the ladysmiths snack mambazo yes [ light laughter ] jimmy where we talked about wanna lick . Psych. Jimmy yeah, the ice cream and stuff like that. Bashir, heres you as milky j. Milky j jimmy was that hubble gotchu yeah. Jimmy was that hubble gotchu or milky j. Milky j, hubble gotchu. And then you tried the show must go on try to make your way through the curtain. [ laughter ] dude, it is honestly or maybe it did air . I have no idea did we redo it . Jimmy late night you looked at me and i just said like it didnt work. [ light laughter ] but i found the clip yeah, but you have that jimmy yeah, we have your entrance and that was the last time you saw it lets take a look jimmy heres bashir as Akon Cornelius, that we did not air, because we had technical difficulties take a look at this. Oh, my gosh yeah okay, so cool story is that we it was our very first hiatus party. And i deejayed and then, a couple of weeks later, youre like, hey, lets do this, you know, collection of all these great hiphop songs. Yeah. And literally, me and him just went into my like deejay file and like we took the playlist from that and then, just put it in like sequential order and then it was magical it was like the whole crowd was like up and loving it. Jimmy it was one of our biggest bits we ever did oh, it was great. Amazing jimmy they loved that. But then, i think probably, i think yeah. Jimmy the best, right . We got president obama to slow jam the news thats incredible jimmy thats these guys idea slow jam the news. And heres a picture of us with president obama. And my favorite part about this [ laughter ] my favorite part about this i hate this picture my favorite part about this jimmy because youre not looking at the camera . No, it was amazing. Those years at the show are like some of our favorite. We remember working with everybody from Gwyneth Paltrow to Stephen Colbert and like, you know, it was just it was a great time. And he always says it was like it was like our grad school. Like, we came here and no, man, you taught us how to do sketch comedy and do variety comedy and every day and we are always grateful. Jimmy oh, please lets talk about shermans showcase. Showcase. Jimmy this is this is i love this idea because i love american bandstand and soul train. Yeah. Jimmy they used to be these dance shows on tv. So this is a fake dance show this is preyoutube it was the only way to see people dancing yeah, exactly other than, like, looking out your window or Something Like that. Jimmy yeah, exactly. How do you see how people dance . Youre like, that guys got problems jimmy so this is a fake show [ laughter ] so you do every different decade yeah, you know, its a fun way to do sketch and, you know, we do a lot of music. Actually, you know, doing music here on the show is actually what got us started doing shermans showcase. Because wed do sketches like the planetarium, ladysmiths snack mambazo, excuse me jimmy yeah and we just were like having so much fun with music you know, diallo is a deejay and so the ability to just put music and comedy together and do something every week, we were like, we got to do that. Jimmy and thats on ifc. On ifc. Jimmy thats july 29th, i want to say. July 31st july 31st jimmy 31st but i think one thing thats really special about that show is that, you know, i dont think theres been a famous dance troupe on a late night show since the fly girls on in living color. Jimmy oh, yeah but like, i think honestly, i think these showcase dancers are amazing. Like, my wife brittany is the choreographer. Weve got Nigel Lythgoe from so you think you can dance to guest host an episode. Give it up for nigel [ cheers and applause hes watching in barbados somewhere. Hes like jimmy wow. Is john legend involved . John legend john legend so keeping with tonights theme, john legend is the executive producer [ laughter ] jimmy thats what happened when you come on as a guest on the show, you work with either Chrissy Teigen or john legend. [ laughter ] they run everything, you guys jimmy they run everything. They run the world powerful people jimmy and then south side. South side, baby, yeah. Jimmy dude, you guys have fant yall like chicago . South side [ cheers ] jimmy you filmed it in chicago. Partly in chicago you know, i always tell people i was born and raised on the south side of chicago. And you know, when i watch the news im sure you watch the news and you see whats coming out of chicago. Its a little challenging, its a little tough but what we say is, what you see is really a small piece of a huge pie and our show, south side, is going to give you the rest of the pie. You guys want some dessert [ cheers and applause one dude by the way is like too sweet. Hey, im keto, man im keto jimmy i dont like dessert, man. Yeah. Trying to loose some weight its so funny jimmy it is all the cast of characters i know lil rel howery is in it yes, he is. Jimmy who is one of my favorite comedians from chicago, yep jimmy dude, he crushes but everyone crushes and basically, you said it was based on a true thing . Yeah. One of my boys actually, the real story is that every thanksgiving, i would go home. And, you know, when you ask people who the funniest person is they know, sometimes, theyll name comedians but often times, theyll be like, oh, my boy from high school hes hilarious. Or my auntie is the funniest person. And we said, look, if were going to show chicago, lets get those people so one of my boys actually used to work at a renttoown store, where you can rent appliances and toasters and stuff i wouldnt recommend it. [ laughter ] but he had all these stories and what we really were able to do at that is just have something that took us all over the city so we go to the north side, we go to the west side, and we really let chicago speak for itself and we wanted to build a new narrative and let chicago show you how funny it can be. Let the south side show you how funny it could be. And we can change whats going on down there. Yeah, absolutely. [ cheers and applause i just want to say really quick, weve got a lot of love from the people in chicago yeah. Like, there was one day that i was leaving set and my lyft driver was like, hey, i heard youre doing a comedy about the south side of chicago. And i didnt know what his agenda was so i was scared to answer truthfully i was like, yeah . You know, like, the question mark at the end of the yeah. And then, he was, like, thank you. Yeah. He was like, its too often that people think its all one thing. And i think whether its the south side of chicago south side of atlanta zone four in atlanta, georgia you know, like north philly. Compton, watts. Like, we both grew up in working class families and like, you know, when you wake up in the morning, youre not like, how am i not going to get shot today . Youre just like no, seriously, like, you wake up and i know it might come as a surprise [ light laughter ] we just had to, like, find a a way to like present this other side of the story.
