What prosecutors called trove of images of young looking girls found at his Upper East Side mansion over the weekend could that in itself lead to new charges . Its entirely possible if those are underaged photographs that that could be a separate charge it would be technically a lesser charge than whats in the new indictment, but its the kind of thing prosecutors can later add as stephanie was mentioning. They also were very careful, ill add, to make sure that they characterize those photos in a specific way and that obviously means theyre still investigating them they said young looking they didnt assert these were underaged girls. What about this idea the charges are being brought by the public corruption unit and not the unit thats usually tasked with handling sex crimes what do we make of that . There are a few crimes that are so particular or serious that prosecutors are assigned to just those crimes, and as you mentioned, the prosecutors who normally deal with these kind of heinous accusations of things involving minors and sex trafficking are not on the case, so that raises a question we cant answer yet, which is there some other part of this inquiry that relates to potential government corruption. And very quickly, the prosecutors are arguing to keep him behind bars. They say hes a flight risk. Do they have a strong argument to keep him in jail . They have an argument because of the access to jets and other things, but his folks who have worked very hard in the past are making the argument that theyr prove legally that he wouldnt be a flight risk including waiving all kinds of rights. Jeffrey epstein pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking charges. His attorney called the allegations quote ancient stuff, but federal prosecutors in new york say they have the evidence to put the billionaire Hedge Fund Manager behind bars for the rest of his life, accusing him of running a network of underage girls who he sexually abused between 2002 and 2005 in his homes in palm beach and new york. The fbi searched his mansion here in manhattan on saturday discovering what they described as trove of sexually suggestive photos of seemingly underaged girls. In a moment, were going to talk to one of johns Close Friends, but first a look at a life that was remarkable from the start. He was born into history, the young son of a young president cut down in his prime. As a toddler, john jr. s simple salute became one of the most poignant and enduring images in American History john lived his life in the spotlight along with his glamorous mother Jacqueline Kennedy onassis and his older sister caroline. He spoke to today about his mom back in 1999. She parented for both of them, and i think she was deliberate in showing that his interests and his concerns were part of our upbringing and some of her own which were not his. He went to Nyu Law School and was named by people magazine, the sexiest man alive in 1988, the most eligible bachelor in the world, his every move snapped by photographers, even his bar exam results were front page news. After serving a stint in the new York District Attorneys Office he left the law to pursue a passion project, starting the glossy george magazine covering politics and pop culture. Ladies and gentlemen, meet george with his career well underway in 1996, john married calvin klein publicist Carolyn Bessette and they embarked on a high profile social life, just a couple of months before he died he talked about about his dads view of politics and whether he himself would ever run. I always said that he thought everyone should run for office and, listen, theres a lot of time in life to do all sorts of things. But he never had that time. Kennedy jr. Good to have you here. Its been a long time, what made you decide this was the moment that you wanted to write a book about jfk jr. Welhile john was alive i protected his privacy like many of his friends, now that hes gone as his friend and also a historian, i feel like its my responsibility to preserve his legacy i dont want john to be remembered as the sexiest man alive. I dont want him to be remembered as the hunk flunk the john i knew was so much more complicated than that, and thats the john i tried to capture in this book. Complicated in what ways . You know, the famous photograph john on november 25th, 1963, he salutes, raises his right hand and salutes his father on his third birthday, i believe that moment, all the unfulfilled hopes and expectations of the kennedy presidency transferred to john, and he carried that with him his entire life. So john used to kell tell me hes two people, he was just john, just the typical privileged member of his generation, but he had a role to play his entire life, and that role was John Fitzgerald kennedy jr. , the son of a slain president , and that was a burden that could have crushed most people. John struggled with it at times, but he handled it with enormous grace, and thats really the story i want to tell you think of the kennedys, you think of public service, but with john his greatest struggle and his greatest achievement was personal his ability to deal with this burden that had been imposed upon him and to deal with it with enormous strength. And stay normal, which was so important to jackie. One of the things you write about that was surprising was his relationship with his mother, the fact that he was close to his stepfather, closer than i think people really realized and then lost him too here he had lost his father as a toddler. Then his father figure in robert kennedy, and then aristotle onassis. You think of the trauma that he experienced as a child, not only is he witnessing those, these events, especially the assassination of his father and uncle, but hes moving all the time hes moving from the white house, to another place in washington, and another place. Within a year hes lived in four different places. What was jackie like in grief . People dont talk about that very often you know she had a difficult time, understandably so, and john used to say that she was emotionally absent for a while he mentioned at one point that she drank a little more than she should have, but she was struggling with her own grief, which was part of the trauma that john experienced. He experienced trauma through his mother you also write that he was probably going to get into electoral politics when he died . Im certain of that one of the ways i measure that is the way he referred to his father so john when i first knew him, referred to him as president kennedy. In the 90s he started calling him my father. Thos la those last couple of years he called him my daddy. I think for me that was john finally coming to terms with the fact that thats kind of heartbreaking that he started using the toddlers words well into his life. Thats right. But he was becoming more comfortable with his fathers legacy and going into politics john always johns great struggle was to create and forge his own identity separate from that of his family and his father, and he did that by keeping politics at a distance, and those final years he finally he realized that politics was in his dna. He was talking openly about running for office when Daniel Moynihan resigned, there was a senate seat that came open, and john thought seriously about running for that seat, but didnt think it was time, but some of the last conversations he had in his life he was talking about running for governor of new york in 2001. We of course know of his tragic and untimely death and those circumstances. He was married, there have been lots of reports about difficulties in that marriage toward the end i was surprised to read in your book that he had hoped to have kids and had even had a name in mind for a child yeah, flynn. Flynn kennedy. Yeah. John, that was one of the issues, one of the many issues in their relationship. John wanted to start a family. He wanted to have kids carolyn for very understandable reasons didnt think the time was right. She, paparazzi were horrible to her. They chased her around they called her names. Johns best friend and his cousin Anthony Roswell is dying. Carolyn would say this isnt the time how can we bring up john f. Kennedy iii in this environment. That was one of the many issues they had in their relationship. You also wrote there was a time in your life where he demonstrated an unusual act of kindness and generosity. There was, i mean, there are a number of times, but in that last week when before john died, i developed this tremor in my hand, which i still have. Its great for making martinis by the way its kind of a pain. And i went and had a doctors appointment the friday before john died, and the doctor told me i may be in the early stages of als, which is not the you never want to hear those words, and john, i didnt tell john he found out about it, and that saturday morning he calls me up, and i told him everything that was going on there was a long pause, and he said stevie ill take care of you. And he repeated it again thats the john kennedy i want the world to know about, the john kennedy who was enormously generous and kind and decent you know, in the following saturday, roughly that same time i woke up and found out that his plane was missing, and i was helpless so much loss. It will hold the hair in place while the gel is drying. Then youve got this rock hard super awesome swim cap situation. The only secret is dont let anyone touch your hair once thats set its hands off. Dont touch the do. Correct tell me about this. What is this for you know what, i think so many people burn their skin in the sun. This is really less about hair and more about skin, but i love the dry touch sunscreens. Is this for your scalp . Yes, they dont make your hair greasy. A little dab of this on your fingertips, massage it in your temples, in your scalp, if youre wearing your hair up, at the nape of the neck its important to take care of the skin on our scalp as we do the skin on our face.
