Time for our weekly chat with chuck todd, moderator of meet the press. Thanks for joining us this morning. Happy to do so, marcus. Chuck, were hearing a lot about the conditions at the Detention Centers along the southern border, so you have two congressional leaders with you this morning. The question is, can anything get passed through congress on this issue . Well, yes, it can get passed through congress but can any of it get cooperation from President Trump . I think thats the Sticking Point here. You get the sense that republicans if acting on their own, would want to try to do something about this. They dont feel good about how this looks when it comes to detaining children, but the president seems pretty dug in, in some ways views it as a potential deterrent for more migrants, and even at one point tweeted earl whier this week theyre probably being treated better than they were from their home country so youll see this with the interviews i have, one democrat, one republican, you do get the sense that if there was some trust in the administration, we also have this issue, marcus, of the fact that everybody in the department of Homeland Security is in some sort of acting capacity, because the president essentially keeps firing people. So theres also a question whether anybody is comfortable making decisions without the president s approval. It feels were in a culdesac on the issue. Around and around and around. This is a big talker in a lot of my circles. Joe biden losing ground in a lot of the polls with voters. I know he just did a speech yesterday in South Carolina defending his record in the senate with people he didnt always agree with. My interesting question for you, what is your take . Well, look, i think i get what hes doing. I gueet why he did it in South Carolina, africanamerican support is key to him winning this nomination. The attempt yesterday was to try to remind voters he was Barack Obamas Vice President and i think youll hear him say that more often and essentially use barack obama as his character witness, and saying would barack obama pick somebody to be his Vice President who was somehow sympathetic to segregationist. It appears to be his attempt, as one of our panelists points out the bigger problem for joe biden is not the issue of working with segregationists, is that it reminds people hes been around so long he served in the United States senate with people who were segregationists. That is a long time ago, so it only reinforces this idea, is he a man of this century or the last one . All right, always good to hear from your perspective. Looking forward to seeing much more from you this morning. Join chuck this morning on meet the press. Hell have exclusive interviews with senator jeff merkley of oregon and senator Amy Klobuchar of minnesota. Tune in to meet the press, coming up for you at 8 00 this morning, right after this newscast. The president ial candidate was widely criticized by several of his opponents including senators Kamala Harris and cory booker. Yesterday biden asked people to judge him based on his record. I regret it and im sorry for any of the pain or misconceptions they may have caused anybody. But should that misstep define 50 years of my record for fighting for civil rights, Racial Justice in this country i hope not, i dont think so. Biden admitted he was taken aback when senator Kamala Harris confronted him about his remarks during the first president ial debate last week. Temperature, there we go, temperatures right now in the south bay 57 degrees, in the south bay 53, the peninsula, the trivalley 58, and it is a little cooler but youre going to notice the big change in todays forecast, this afternoon. Let me tell you why. Its partly cloudy right now, 55 degrees in San Francisco. We have a short weak trough building in thats going to kick up the onshore winds bringing us the sea breeze and a chance to see some drizzle along the coastline thanks to a colder air mass. This is going to not only kick up the winds in the coastline area but also into the east bay as well, the Altamont Pass expect gusty conditions picking up later tonight. Santa rosa a 58mileperhour wind, San Francisco getting windier this afternoon by about 5 30. Right around dinnertime near the coastline, be prepared. Take a coat. It will get chilly with the windy conditions and paired with the cooler temperatures, you can expect that. This is all the way through monday tomorrow morning and the winds will continue. Well see chance of coastal clouds along with the sea breeze through tomorrow and thats going to impact our daytime highs because of the colder air mass. 79 degrees is our daytime high in morgan hill today. 76 in san jose. 78 in los gatos and 68 degrees for oakland. When you take it further inland through concord, well top out at 80 degrees. Notice the temperatures dropped by as much as ten degrees in some spots compared to yesterday. Redwood city 72. 63 degrees at the embarcadero and up through the north bay, santa rosa 79 degrees, novato 78 degrees. So lets talk about your long range outlook. So again we had that warm start yesterday and now today were going to finish off with cooler temperatures thanks to the short wave trough, trending us easier dropping temperatures down, daytime highs and as we head in towards monday and tuesday, those Cool Temperatures will continue, but by wednesday, we do have a storm approaching near the Pacific Northwest, thats going to bring our temperatures through a mild phase and then by thursday and friday, a desert southwesterly high will really begin to build towards california. Once the high builds in, once again it will dry us out and warm us back up, climbing into the 70s for San Francisco by next weekend, friday into saturday. So as far as your inland temperatures go, well keep the mild temperatures through tomorrow, again expect to see the chance of possibly even some short wave trough activity, which is morning drizzle, cloud activity, breezy conditions through tomorrow, and then by tuesday, our temperatures start to kick up just a notch. 78 degrees, with a more noticeable warmup expected by wednesday and thursday. Marcus . I like the temperatures though. Much more ahead for you here on today in the bay. 7 21 for you right now. Coming up, turning what was once a priceless item. South bay 57 degrees, partly cloudy, 53 on the peninsula. Trivalley 58. Look at San Francisco, 55 degrees, and the north bay 53. So as far as your high temperatures for this afternoon, look at your temperature trend. So well keep a mix of sun and clouds through about 1 00 for the south bay. Look at 2 00 the icon we notice clearing and the cloud cover and temperatures will top out into the upper 70s through the south bay, into the interior valleys, typically one of our warmer spots and through concord as well. Expect to see similar conditions and were certainly going to notice a cooldown and again, this is all thanks to a wave trough building so much so that the winds are expected to pick up again this evening, especially for the Altamont Pass, bringing a chance of drizzle.
