Daylight is finally revealing some of the damage left behind after tornados and Severe Weather hit the state. Tens of thousands of people without power this morning. This is more video of that damage coming into our newsroom. The Weather Service issued 36 tornados over the weekend. Authorities confirm at least seven people hurt. So far no tkaebts are reported. People who survived the storm are happy things werent worse. One person who rode out the storm, got home just in time to keep his pets safe. Im glad i got home to get them. At the end of the day, i would have been worse. I have no car now. No home. And ive been working really hard to get all of this. That is tough there. Oakland is set to discuss the possibility of decriminalizing psychedelic mushrooms after people in denver voted to legalize the socalled magic mushrooms. Everest is known for being a difficult climb. People are dying not because they lack skills but because they lack oxygen. What is happening on mt. Everest and how it is extending to other climbs. We heard about the 11 deaths in 10 days. Yosemite is trying to make that popular climb a lot safer for everyone. Yosemite National Park started issuing permits in the interest of safety. Only 300 people can climb per day. That means 66 fewer climbers are up on that mountain at any given time. But the statistics for the accidents are just about the same. If you look at your screen there, 38 major incidents before the lottery. And then after the lottery when there were 66 hikers there were 35 major incidents. All of this appearing in the journal of environmental medicine. Overcrowding seems to be a major factor on the everest. If you look at this line of climbers on the worlds tallest mountain, it is just a log jam. Eleven climbers died in the last 11 days. Experts say it is because they are spending too much time in the zone where there isnt enough oxygen and they are working through their supplies before they can make it out of the death zone. We talk with a climber who used a less traveled route. I was heartbroken when i found out what happened. I feel so bad for the families and all the climbers who got stuck in the mess that day. Another man who died, this man from colorado. There was a narrow climbing window. There were about 400 climbers and sherpas that were permitted. So a lot of folks saying theres just too much. Theres so many people. Right. Trying to go up. When theres not enough oxygen, it has the effect on the body and the muscles and the brain and the lungs. It seems like a horrible way to go, too. As i was saying not too long ago, we are still a ways away from any type of mushroom shops popping everywhere like we see with cannabis shops. Oakland Public Safety Hearing Committee will discuss the possibility of decriminalizing psychedelic mushrooms. They come from plants or fungi, not lsd oreck stacy. The benefits of the mushrooms is it is helpful for ptsd. Some researchers caution using them outside of clinically researched trials. The department saying they have only make about a dozen or less when it comes to possession of psychedelic drugs. There is concern when it comes to driving under the influence of these mushrooms. Today will be the sixth day that teachers have not shown up for work. Instead, they will picket at the school and district headquarters behind me after another day of negotiations. Last night the Teachers Union posted on Facebook Page their frustration that the district negotiators will not be able to meet until 3 00 tomorrow afternoon. And i just heard from the district. They say they cant meet today because their team will be at schools supporting students during the strike and because of a School Board Meeting later tonight. The district and teachers have budged slightly in their demands. Youll recall the Teachers Union was asking for a 10 raise for this year and the next. Take a look at your tv screen. This is what they are now asking for. 3. 7 raise this year and 3. 26 raise next year. Thats just over 7 when you add it all up. The district offer right now, they are still offering a 3 onetime bonus for this year and then a 2 raise next year. Thats up from a percent of their initial offer. Their secondary offer. If an additional 1 million comes in through revenue, they would add a half percent. 1 more if it is over 2 million. Teachers arent there. Substitutes are in class.
