Reporter we just completed the busiest day. Ten medal events including three in which Northern California athletes took home hardware. Well tell you everything you need to know ahead. First back to you. Sounds good. And were sending it right over to kari because spotty showers early this morning. Very early. A lot of that has cleared out. Well see another round of rain moving in. Its still well to the north of us. I wanted to show you storl ranger and what were tracking. We do have some rain and some snow well to the north of the north bay. As we go throughout the rest of the day into late morning well start to see some showers popping up and very hit or miss. We get under one of those downpour that is will produce brief heavy rain and the potential of small hail. Ill be monitoring that as we go into the afternoon. More on that in just a few minutes. Mike, a new crash in the south bay. Slowing because of a crash took a while to clear that and the debris. We still see slowing in the area because coming up this time shy of the first crash we have another crash which is just cleared from lanes in the last few minutes so slowing here, the airport for San Jose International airport thats where the slowing starts again. Over here slowing through the trivalley. Hayward as well, the nimitz and the san mateo bridge. A slower drive, about a half hour right now. Back to you. Thank you very much, mike. We are following some breaking news this morning out of the east bay. Emergency crews at the scene of a fire at a Shopping Center in dublin. Today in the bays bob redell arrived at the scene. This could be moving close to homes. What have you been able to find out . Reporter well, good morning to you, marcus and laura. The fire is out. Youre looking at the back side of custom fireplace pat yio in dublin. Next door to the rei. This is what was on fire. You see how high, at least a story high. And these caught fire within the past hour. The Fire Department was able to put them out. Perhaps trying to find out what the cause is. Right now they dont know what causes fire if it was electrical, someone out here who started it intentionally or for some other cause. The battalion chief tells us it took about 15 minutes to put the fire out and another 15 minutes to have full knockdown. Youll notice that the back side of the business is open. The only thing that happened on the inside was smoke. No flame, which is a good thing. The Fire Department had to break into the retail part of the storm so they could make sure there was no extension. The fire is out. The fireplace store is minimal and there are no injuries. You can see there was quite a response here when you have this much wood out here there is a lot of concern it spreads. The Fire Department was able to do their job and that wall is also probably fairly fire retardant. Looks like the city of dublin as well. Reporting live, bob redell, today in the bay. Good to see the quick response. 6 04. Lawmakers in washington and florida facing what seems more and more like a Pivotal Moment for the future of gun control. She is well within a stores return policy but shes refused at the Customer Service desk. We want to know why. Im consumer investigator chris chmura, nbc bay area responds. A brutal flu season. At 6 24 new for you this morning a new strategy to fight the brutal flu season. Doctors are now giving a second flu shot to some patients. Children between the ages of 6 months and 8 years old who are vaccinated for the first time this season should get a second flu shot. The seam goes for anyone over the age of 65. Will a second flu shot hurt me in any way . It wouldnt be a bad idea and is unlikely to cause any harm. If its a case where somebody is in a situation where they got an early season vaccination and we had a long flu season it might be a good idea for those patients to get a second flu immunization. For the most part doctors say healthy adults should be fine. Here in california so far this year there have been 185 deaths this flu season. 37 of those right here in the bay area. We expect to get another update from the California Department of Public Health tomorrow. Nbc bay area responds to a san jose mom who says the big retailer wouldnt honor its return policy. Our team stepped in and found a bit of a glitch. Good morning. Julie woodall bought two pairs of shoes in the macys finish line store for her son. Eight months later he still hadnt worn one pair so julie tried to return them and get her 87 back. Eight months is a long time to get a refund. She says macys website said she had a full year. The store said, no, she only had 45 days to do that. Julie escalated her complaint unsuccessfully. I did a simple internet search and found two macys pages. One said it accepts the finish line returns for one year. The other said 45 days. Macys gave julie her refund and said that they have apologized for the inconvenience. But what about those conflicting return policies. They say the one year was archived. The store thanked us and then removed that page from its website. By state law youre only entitled to a sevenday window to bring stuff back to the store. Most stores are more generous. Still, if youre not head over heels in love with whatever it is youre buying its best to check that return policy before you check out. Please call us if you have a complaint. And at 6 27 coming up well have team news. Two people dead after a crash in the east bay. Plus a low speed chase in the bay area. That had to be quite a surprise for them. Reporter good morning to you, laura, a close call when you have the car crash ending up on the front law of this home. I want to show you the area you could see the tree is knocked down as a result of that crash earlier this morning. Well show you the video of the damage involving those two cars. Chp says it happened just before 1 00 a. M. You see the camaro collided in a damage pickup truck. Now as you saw this was literally right on the front lawn of the home. We did get a chance to speak to that homeowner who told us about the impact he heard this morning. It sounded like a bomb went off, to be honest. It was one of the loudest, shook the whole husband and i thought it was almost a dream until i heard a man screaming. When i heard the man screaming, i ran over to the window, opened up my window and there were two cars there, one completely smashed. It looked like the camaro just wiped him out. Reporter quite a crash. You can see the damage between the two cars and that video, that scene all cleared up when we showed up. Now were being told by chp there were four people altogether that were affected by this. Two people dead as a result. Two people getting treatment for their injuries. Exactly what caused those two cars to crash into this area is still under investigation. Live at bay point, pete suratos for today in the bay. Thank you, pete. A suspected dui driver is in custody, this after a lengthy but low speed chase in the south bay overnight. Today in the bays kris sanchez is live near 680 and hofstetter. Kris, it was other drims who helped chp catch the suspect. Reporter perhaps youve been on the freeway at some point and youve seen a driver looking rather erratic. Well, thats what happened this morning or last night. Several drivers saw the woman going from lane to lane erratically, called 911 saying we think we see a drunk driver. This is how what happened next. Several drivers called 911 about that driver. Drivers from redwood city tracked the driver of the honda to southbound 101 and palo alto. Officers tried to stop the woman behind the wheel, she took off. Officers continued to follow her from southbound 101. Highway 85 to i had been 280 before she made it on northbound 680 where officers had that spike strip waiting for her. The car stopped but chp tells us the woman still would not get out of the car. Officers had to break the windows in order to get her out and put her into cuffs. Chp tells us once they had the woman in custody they said they saw signs of impairment so that woman will be booked into the Santa Clara County jail. At this point on charges likely to be driving under the influence. In san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay. Kris, thank you for the update. Dont go up there if its snowing because its tough to get traction. A little more slowing for westbound 237 coming up to 101 where there is a report of a crash. It does involve a car carrier. I dont know if that was full or empty. Whatever the case it will be a distraction and will add to the build. Mt. View started right now. The president estimates that would be about 20 of all of our nations teachers. Heres the tweet. Its a big one. Im not going to read the entire thing to you. He does say teachers would be able to fire back if a savage sicko came to school with bad intentions and says Arming Teachers is cheaper than hiring guards. Now mr. Trump bounces back and forth about how he feels about teachers with guns. Earlier just this morning he tweeted i never said give teachers guns. That was at 4 20 this morning. He blamed fake news for saying he did. That comes in at 4 20 and then the one i just read you in which he calls for teachers to be armed. During the president ial campaign he said he was against Arming Teachers. 2016 during the campaign, crooked hillary said that i want guns brought into the classroom. Thats wrong. President trump will meet again with teachers affected by school shoot egs today. Yesterday he met with students and parents in what he called a listening session asking how he could help.
