Here is a look at our radar now, we are seeing some rain, even a little bit of a wintry mix, those pink areas show a mix of some rain and snow and then as we head farther down into the Santa Cruz Mountains for areas like Riverside Grove and boulder creek, look at that, weve got some light snow. Thats all the way coming down skyline as well and we are going to see the potential of some more spotty rain and also a wintry mix as we go throughout the morning. We are going to keep our eyes open for precipitation here at the summit, but take a look at some of the video that we got from yesterday, the sierra was a different story, you can see this mess of traffic i80 at kingvale where the wind was whipping around the snow while folks were just trying to get their chains on so they could be safe. We caught brian nets as he headed home to San Francisco. It was pain a bunch of traffic. I guess as soon as we got up and started our way down 80 the snow really started to fall. So there were a few wrecks. The questions will be shared with dispatch Centers Across the country. Continuing coverage now of the 2018 olympic winter games. Garvin thomas has been working while we were all sleeping. One athlete that we have been watching took part in for qualifying heats overnight. Really a disappointing few hours for Nick Cunningham. Reporter thats right, marcus and laura. I just spoke with him within the past hour when he walked off the track after his third run, he looked at me, laughed and said he was hoping he wouldnt see me until after the fourth run tonight but his times werent good enough, he didnt qualify for that last run. Now, Nick Cunningham and his brake hand had a keen sabor dug themselves such a dig time hole that not even their fastest run in the third run could help them out. I asked nick what it was like going to bed after those first two runs knowing he had no chance but still had to wake up the next day and still compete. When you have a bad race you have to forget about it and nobody taught me that more than steve holcomb. I tried to take a page out of his book and let it go. Z its a new day, i cant change anything so to go into today i had to just clear my mind and we actually just at the start line we were like lets just have some fun. 5d we cant change anything, lets see to get one more run, but if not lets celebrate like we just won. You heard nick mention steve holcomb, he was the leader of this u. S. Bod sled team who unexpected died last year. They are sliding in his memory at these winter games. Nick does have one more shot at the medal, the fourman bobsled still to come. Jamie anderson has another shot to add a medal at these games. She just qualified for the finals in snow board big air. She didnt land her first jump cleanly, but performed the same trick cleanly on her second run and secured her spot in the finals. Marcus and laura, i just want to get back to nick one more time. When i was talking to him i mentioned that earlier i had talked to members of my family who were in monterey where he is from at Fishermans Wharf and he looked at me and said, after i day i have had i want to go more to go to Fishermans Wharf and have a dinner at fishermans grotto. Thanks so much, garvin. And right now at 5 10 tracking rain and even snow in the bay area this morning. Mostly across the Santa Cruz Mountains. I will show you what we have our eyes on, also give you a look at the metering lights over at the bay bridge. Mike, not many people headed to wall street this morning, either. The markets are closed this morning, it is of course president s day. The big news this morning and over the weekend is facebook. The special prosecutors indictment of 13 russians singled out facebook as a key part of the russians effort to fool the American Public before and after the 2016 president ial election. Facebook is fighting bad news on all fronts. The sunday New York Times with a head line to stir discord in 2016, russians turned most often to facebook. Here we see the number two man of justice Rod Rosenstein reading out the indictment friday morning accusing 13 people and three organizations, all russians, of interfering with our election. The 37page charging document does not accuse facebook of criminal wrongdoing, but names facebook 41 separate times. Now, there was deep concern at facebook even before fridays indictment as employees wondered what role they may have had in unwittingly playing some sort of damage to our democracy. Facebooks Vice President of ads who is the executive in charge during the whole incident posted a defense to twitter saying, among other things, i have seen all the russian ads and i can say very definitively that swaying the election was not the main goal. That is exactly the opposite of what this indictment says. On the first page section 6 defendants operations including supporting the president ial campaign of then candidate donald j. Trump. Donald trump jumped on goldmans tweets quoting him twice, including the tweet that defends facebook with that falsehood from cogoldman. There are no criminal charges against facebook, but facebook is defending itself and, as i showed you, using some not Accurate Information to defend itself. Thank you, scott. Facebook a lot of people wondering will this happen again. Well, Old Fashioned snail mail is facebooks answer to stopping russians from using its site to spread fake news. The Menlo Park Company will send postcards to potential buyers of political ads to confirm that they are in the u. S. That they reside here. Facebook did not say how the verification process will prevent a Foreign Agent from setting up a local mailing address. Top intelligence Officials Say russias attack on the midterm elections have already begun. There are the top tens and bottom tens for all kinds of things, especially in sports. Some people are saying fergies rendition of the starspangled banner at last nights nbayn9u allstar game me near the bottom of that list. The nilational anthem, right . Yes. There were some who could see where she was trying to go with this, maybe adding a bluesy feel to the National Anthem which you could kind of hear in the music and many more could hardly see how she got there. Some look on, there are some of those players faces right there. Social media lit up with some of that. Some say that it boardered offensive. Did you get to see it . The first part was nice and i saw where she was going with it and i was like, oh, but then it got to the point where it sounded like she was in a lounge with a drink in her hand and it was amateur night karaoke. She can sing, we know t shes won grammys, but not for this. She wont be winning one. What did you think of fergies rendition of the National Anthem, was it a hit or a complete miss . Let me know your thoughts. I just posted a poll on twitter. There is also a link there if you havent had a chance to see the whole thing or if you want to endure it again. Yeah. I thought she was trying to get a little happy birthday mr. President. I thought that, too. I little billy holiday feel. Sometimes the road that youre planning on, as a traffic guy, the road you are planning on less traveled . Yeah. Maybe it should be. And the roads are less traveled this morning because its a holiday and thats probably a good thing considering that weve got some wacky weather happening in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Lets see whats going on now as we get a look at the radar and its showing that we do have a lot of colors here. Youre seeing greens and some yellows that indicates the rain and where that rain gets heavier much of that still offshore. As we head a little bit farther south along the Santa Cruz Mountains youre seeing grays and pinks there. A wintry mix changing over to some snow. And the sevenday forecast is up at the bottom of the screen as we get a closer look at that snow and rain closing in on scotts valley. Been watching to see how close that gets to the summit and it looks like it will be there soon. So watching a lot of things there on the roads. Not the best way to go to santa cruz because look at where we begin this morning, 37 degrees, san jose is at 44 and its already freezing now in santa rosa. If you look at our wind chills, most of us it feels like its in the 30s as we head out the door, a cold start to this morning, we will still have a chance of some spotty rain today. Be watching out for that even as we go into this afternoon. Then once things quiet down or temperatures will be dropping quickly. We do have a freeze warning in effect for all of these areas shaded in purple. That goes into effect tonight. High pressure will be way to the west of us and its allowing for cold fronts and storm system to drop in. The next one moves in on thursday and friday. More on that coming up in a few minutes. Mike, you were saying that so far the commute is a freeze but the winds are still kicking. Breeze would be whats going on across the bridges, the san mateo bridge, bay bridge, altamonte pass, they have all had overnight warnings. We are looking at warnings canceled right now. More on that in just a few minutes. Mike, you were saying so far there is no backup. No backup at the bay bridge behind me, an easy drive and even up the incline a smooth drive. The National Weather service is issuing a freeze warning that goes in effect tonight through tomorrow morning. So 24 hours from now i probably wont be as happy about standing here on the outside because the temps are supposed to drop into the lower 30s, even into the lower 20s. Our biggest concern of course is for the people who are homeless and who live out in the streets. Thats why in the south bay the city of san jose, for example, has already opened up a Warming Center like this one on tully road. Here is a man who decided to ride out last night in his vehicle. I just stayed here in my car, covering the windows up so i can stay warm. Donald trump tweeted all kinds of things last weekend but it was this tweet that enraged the kids. Very sad that the fbi missed all the many signals sent out by the Florida School shooter. They are spending too much time trying to prove russian collusion with the trump campaign, there is no collusion. Students from the latest School Shooting spat back with venom. One writing my friends were brutally murdered and you have the nerve to make this about russia. Now, we will have to wait to see whether or not the students can turn all of this anger into votes. Most of the kids at marjory stone man high are not old enough to vote but they will be by the next time a president ial election rolls around. I mentioned that was one of several tweets. The president was issuing lots of tweets, they were full of anger over the weekend attacking Oprah Winfrey and adam schiff and president obama. This comes of course after the number two man at justice, Rod Rosenstein, unveiled a 37page indictment created by the special Counsel Robert Mueller indicting 13 russians and three russian organizations accusing them of trying to influence the election in favor of candidate donald trump. Trump has in the past refused to blame russia specifically and has not implemented the sanctions created by congress to punish russia. The president says he asked Vladimir Putin twice to his face whether russia tried to influence our elections and twice putin denied it to which trump said he believed the russian president. Last summer after a meeting President Donald Trump actually suggested we join up with putin. Putin and i discussed former an impenetrable Cyber Security unit so that Election Hacking and many other negative things will be guarded. That tweet left politicians and securities experts aghast. President donald trump followed up with another tweet that walked it back. Things obviously moving quickly. Follow me on twitter and i will keep you posted on what happens just later today. Sounds good. Thank you very much. 5 48.
