High winds are no joke over there. Reporter they are no joke, laura, particularly when they lead to evacuations and thats exactly what happened in the building behind us. You remember monday i took you on a tour of the super store. As you can see thats basically a big tent and the winds were so high they had to evacuate the building because they were afraid it would call down. You will understand why when you take a look at this crazy video from overnight. People literally running from falling debris and banners, tents and fencing be being ripped to shreds. The super store wasnt the only tent structure evacuated. The nbc commissary that is here at the olympic park which is where we can go to eat when working that is and a tent as well, that had to be emptied out for the evening as well. It isnt the type of experience that one couple from San Francisco was expecting on their trip to the olympics. We just got an emergency alert, we were stressed out because we cant leave whats going on, but it looks like that structure might fall over. We dont know. We were in the cafeteria having a couple beers and it sounds like its about to fall over. Reporter that was just the spectators. The wi the slalom was postponed so mi Mikaela Shiffrin will have to wait until friday. The downhill is scheduled to be in prime time tonight, marcus and laura, of course, weather permitting. Garvin, you were alerted about the wind. Talk to us a little bit about that. How you were how you got that alert and how it was slightly confusing at first. The language barrier. Reporter thats true. So every phone in the area was sent a push alert, it was an alert that came to all our phones. You would be in a room with people, they would all go off and this was the message you would see, its obviously in korean. At first there was initial confusion and a little bit of fear. We are about 50 miles of north korea and we all had concerns coming here so when you see an alert like this you are worried. Fortunately there are folks here who work with nbc and get those alerts and immediately as soon as they get them they translate them and send us a message or email that lets us know what the alert was. In this case it was high winds, take shelter. Something we had to heed but maybe not something as serious as we feared it might be. Thats a very good point being right there next to north korea. Stay safe, my friend. We will continue to check back with garvin as hes reported live from the Winter Olympics in pyeongchang. Very cool. It is cool. A little cool to start for our morning as well. In the backup we also have a disabled truck that pulled over off to the service lane. Right by the toll plaza there is more traffic slowing to get over past this its a distraction here. And the other issue flashing lights about at the end of the flat section midway across the span toward the highrise. Two issues for the san mateo bridge. Let me show you the map, there is slowing that shows up on our sensors, the dumbarton bridge is a better route and 880 still smooth getting over there. And im going to keep showing you this live shot here, the san mateo bridge, though, look, over on the right side you see one truck with flashing lights, its out of lanes, theres another disabled vehicle closer to the highrise, two reasons why you might want to avoid the san mateo bridge. We do worry about space junk and there is a car thats just floating around there sort of useless, although kind of cool. Its not actually in earth orbit, its orbiting the sun so we dont have to worry about it hitting any of our satellites. Its way out there. Way out there. You want to keep checking back in with us with that one chance of rain in the forecast on monday. Starting out with Cool Temperatures, napa now we are below freezing, 30 degrees there, its 34 in santa rosa. We will have more really cool weather in the forecast as we go into next week and i know thats a huge concern because everything has started to bud and bloom because of the warm weather we have had recently. As we get a look at our high today, reaching into the mid to lower 60s and a high of 65 today in walnut creek, oakland up to 58 degrees there, 59 in san mateo, halfmoon bay 55 and cooler in ingleside 55 and santa rosa 59 degrees. We will have a slight chance of rain in the forecast early next week. This may do better in bringing the sierra some snow but we will have much cooler temperatures moving in between monday and tuesday. We will be monitoring that chance of showers moving in. I will talk more about that coming up, but, mike, you were saying the commute is mostly looking good. There is maybe two things i have to mention, one trouble spot would be the san mateo bridge because the rest of the commute is great, a typical pattern which is a little lighter than yesterday because this is a wednesday. This may show a lighter traffic flow. Watch the evening commute that may start earlier. The san mateo bridge has s been showing a slower drive but the live camera may indicate better news. We have this truck on the shoulder but folks arent slowing past it and moving smoothly across the flat section where there is another disabled vehicle. For the south bay 63 degrees, still not bad but cooler than yesterday with breezy winds and we will talk about a warm up and a chance of rain in the forecast in just a few minutes. Mike, youve been tracking a few of those slow spots but a pretty smooth commute but you are still focused on the san mateo bridge. Pretty smooth overall, this is a lot more red lights, the taillights and brake lights as you travel westbound across the san mateo bridge heading over toward foster city. One disabled truck over on the shoulder but a distraction, folks flow past that and continued slow toward the end of the highrise where there is another disabled vehicle. A lot more brake lights, i think a tow truck may have arrived on scene. Still slow coming over from the hayward side. Another crash south 880 at a street may be presenting an issue. One lane is blocked there. More slowing through san leandro. The rest of the bay the commute looks both, the south bay buildings a bit and the metering lights are on at the bay bridge toll plaza. Back to you. We want to continue with breaking news that we have been bringing you this morning on today in the bay. You are looking at video over the scene of a shooting at the entrance of nsa. New this morning, there is a lot of talk of wine and roses on valentines day, but for some people domestic bliss is replaced by Domestic Violence. In fact, San Jose Police departments Family Violence unit got more than 7,500 cases in the last fiscal year. Today in the bays kris sanchez has been digging through those numbers and, kris, you found that Domestic Violence is on the rise here. Reporter right. There are more cases in the city of san jose for the Police Department and also more cases handed to the Santa Clara County district attorneys office. Now, we do have the latest numbers available. Let me show them to you right now. From january through june of 2017, these are the most recent numbers available, San Jose Police got more than 1,600 total cases of Domestic Violence, nearly 300 cases of misdemeanor domestic battery. 721 cases of minor injury and 121 cases of serious Bodily Injury or cases involving a weapon. Those are felony Domestic Violence. Nearly 500 people violated restraining orders with more than 1,400 of those cases ended with criminal filings. In all of Santa Clara County in 2017 there were ten deadly incidents of Domestic Violence resulting in 14 deaths including nine victims. There were 11 people who were shot to death, two people stabbed and one person beat to death. In nine of ten of those incidents the attackers were men though there was a woman there in a samesex relationship and killed a male friend who tried to intervene. A third of all women will experience violence inflicted by an intimate partner at some point in their lives. A quarter of all men according to the centers for disease control. Children and the elderly can be victims of Domestic Violence. Now, according to the San Jose Police Department Overall staffing is an issue for them in dealing with Domestic Violence, but the department is using resources through Community Service organizations. Now, experts say that if a loved one is prone to violence that behavior is not likely to change and is often likely to escalate. So if you find yourself in a violent relationship make sure that you get help before its too late. I have been posting resource numbers in my twitter feed, you can also find it on my Facebook Page and hopefully you have a healthy and happy valentines day. In san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay. Very important to bring attention to this topic. Thank you, kris. 6 37.
