Cality. Theatricality. Very difficult entrance into the rotational lift. Very different from what we saw earlier in the season. The one thing i love most about tessa and scotts skating is the way they hold each other. When they make contact, no matter what their style, they react to one another. Even if its a hug or a simple hand hold, their connection with one another is always so palpable. Or they are about to earn their fourth medal at the olympics. It is expected of course. The individual, they would become the most decorated figure skaters in olympic history. This is the kind of triumphant feeling you hope for at an Olympic Games center stage. And they are only just Getting Started here in pyeongchang. For all that it means for virtue and moir, all of those people have talked more than any other team about how important it was for them to earn a gold medal in team event. They wanted patrick chan to have a gold medal. Virtue and moir in the last goround. And canada has that spirit. And other teams have chosen not to compete, including their rivals. Yeah. I think it was a huge benefit to the individual event, not to mention team canada for these two to have been here practicing without their rivals on the ice. They sucked all the air out of the building. They commanded the ice. This was no exception. It was a point of emphasis for canada, this team event. Theres no question about it coming in. And im not saying it wasnt for other countries, but it was apparent that canada wanted this gold medal. They made some changes to this free dance along the way. They changed the music a little bit to have is that more triumphant ending as opposed to the more somber death scene. Take a look at this rotation lift. They switched up the position. I think it is much more flattering than the version they had previously. Those are the little tweaks youre able to do heading into an Olympic Games when you have Everything Else locked down and the details of this program are just exceptional. But this moment when they stood in this lift and struck this pose, the audience reacted and just erupted. It is such a Wonderful Program for them. Even though their coach said they wasnt altogether certain that mulan rouge was appropriate, they said they want to choose a piece we can feel on the ice. It is so personalized to them. One of the most effective parts of tessa and scotts skating is their equal ability to commit to the individual individuals of the program. Always complimentary. By far into first place. More than six points ahead of the shibutanis and yeah. Official now. Team canada can celebrate. They claim the gold medal here in the team competition. The second time they have been a part of the olympics. So the results from this portion of the event, virtue and moir. Again, the shibutanis were excellent is here. A sign of whats to come in the individual dance event. And bobrova and soloviyev. The event athletes from russia claiming the silver. And the u. S. Claiming the bronze medal. Holding off italy who had a chance to take the united states. So a solid effort today for the u. S. But hats off to canada. Youre from up there. You know how they feel. Nathan chan, a bit of a struggle in the short. Thats how things started for the u. S. Bradie tennell, though, hit everything in her first appearance on olympic ice. And Husband Wife Team keirims. And adam rippon celebrating. And the shibutanis telling you everything you needed to know. Nagasu the first u. S. Lady to ever land a triple axel at the olympics. And it will be a great showdown. We have the short. Alina just 15 years of age. Looking forward to that individual showdown. They went silver in the team event. Canada able to celebrate with the gold medal here in the team event in pyeongchang. Medals earned in figure skating today at gangneung ice arena. Canada with the gold. Rush that in second. Terry gannon along with tanith white, tara lipinski, johnny weir. Nobody was holding back in the team event. Nobody seemed to be saving themselves in the individual competition. Everyone on the ice really delivered what they came here to do. Tara . The usa brought it here today. Adam and mirai, the triple axel. And nathan. Translator russian ladies, though, everyone brought it in this team event. It really was a great start for figure skating at the Olympic Games. The u. S. Had to hold off the charge from italy to gain the bronze medal. So thats it for now. But we have much more coming up across the country after your local news. Well be back from pyeongchang with snowboarding and Jamie Anderson from South Lake Tahoe in the finals for womens slopestyle. And halfpipe event coming up in a half an hour. Until then, goodbye from pyeongchang. Plugin hybrid, the end of your Battery Charge isnt the end of the world. It runs on electric, and has gas if you need it. The olympic torch burning bright. Right now a Northern California snow boarder is set to capture a gold medal. Nbc bay areas Garvin Thomas is there. What an exciting time right now. Reporter super exciting, terry. In fact, Jamie Anderson just captured gold in the womens snowboard slopestyle in the last two minutes. Her second run came down, she even didnt even need the second run. Her score in her first run today was better than anybody else did. So she made the run, she did fall once during her second run. As we speak right now, she is celebrating down by the winners circle. This was a very challenging day for the snowboarders. The wind was incredibly strong. We heard from some of them who came off the mountain who said they probably wish the competition had not been held today because of the strong winds that just made it difficult to do. We saw many of the snow boarders fall multiple times as they went down the hill but not Jamie Anderson. She skied perfectly, getting a score of 83 on her first run, 0 10 points more than anybody else. Her second run she didnt have to do, but she is now Gold Medalist. She is reigning Gold Medalist, her second gold medal in women snowboard slopestyle. It is only the second time it has been held in the olympics so jamie is the only one that has ever won it and she now has won it twice. But dont leave them in place and ignore them. Small Business Owners accuse the city of San Francisco and the Golden State Warriors of unleveling the playing field. Im Investigative Reporter and we will tell you why the warriors are on defense coming up. Our stormranger mobile Doppler Radar scanning the skies for a few scattered showers. Snow nearby off to the east around the sierra. We will talk about the wind and perhaps a pattern change to the seven dayforecast when we come back. Team usa to south korea we cant fly. But you know who can . Helping superheroes fly. United. Dollar arena in San Francisco. The Golden State Warriors are being accused of not playing by the rules when it comes to building their new billion dollar arena in San Francisco. The team is expected to move across the bay from oakland in a year and a half but some are crying fowler. Investigative reporter has been dealing into the story. Reporter terry and janelle, the Golden State Warriors are on the defense tonight, and some minority and small Business Owners are on the opposing side, blaming the warriors for unleveling the playing field. Dancing Construction Equipment and dangling acrobats cheered on the Golden State Warriors as the team broke ground on their new San Francisco arena. This is similar in size to one of the Warriors Office towers. Reporter Mike Hardcastle was drafted to help install the sprinkler system. He owns a small Fire Protection business, but just before construction began he says the warriors benched him. The requirement for Small Business participation was eliminated. Reporter for Key Development areas in San Francisco the city sets a goal to assign at least 50 of the work to Small Businesses. Construction firms are required to make a goodfaith effort to meet that mark. The 14yearold policy is supposed to help Small Businesses compete against Larger Companies. Back when the warriors broke ground on the arena the teams president rick wells told us theyd meet San Franciscos requirements. We have confidence that the citys guidelines are going to be completely focused. Reporter our Investigative Unit learned with more than 80 of the Construction Projects already assigned for the warriors arena, only 18 of the work is going to Small Businesses. Remember, the goal is 50 . Reporter how much did you lose out on . 250,000 to 300,000 of profit. Reporter hardcastle acknowledges hiring Small Businesses can be more costly since Larger Companies can buy materials cheaper, but he says that cost of doing business is what the warriors agreed on. I dont know how something that is promoted as a component of the project just gets eliminated. Reporter our Investigative Unit viewed an email from mortenson clark. They sent it saying that the warriors would not pay extra to hire Small Businesses. He says his company was cut out of the project soon after. I dont know how they could not have anticipated there would be a cost involved in it from day one. Reporter the warriors acknowledge that memo, but tell us the email reflects neither our approach nor the reality of how Small Business participation on the project has been achieved. The team declined to speak with us on camera, but says not all Small Businesses are capable of working on such a large project. The warriors also told us theyve exceeded the citys requirement on making a goodfaith effort to meet the hiring goal. Im so disappointed to find out that their number also are this abysmal. Reporter he is president of the San Francisco bay area Small Business council and serves on the board for the citys africanamerican chamber of commerce. 18 is not acceptable. You took a team that for many years and strategically placed them where they are champions right now. You have the wherewithal to figure out a way to get more Small Business participation. It is not rocket science. Reporter he says he is especially disappointed because he was given assurances personally by a Team Attorney that the warriors were committed to partnering with Small Businesses. Reporter you see it as a failing grade . Absolutely. Reporter he says the africanamerican chamber of commerce met with the warriors in 2013 to encourage the team to partner with minorities. Our Investigative Unit has learned Small Businesses owned by minorities have only been awarded 1. 4 of the work at the warriors arena. There is opportunity for them to do better, especially since their moral is stronger together. Reporter beyond the warriors we found developers consistently failed to meet San Franciscos goal of 50 Small Business participation. In fact, Small Businesses are only working on 35 of the citys current Construction Projects that should be attempting to meet that goal. San franciscos office of Community Investment in infrastructure is the Agency Responsible foreign forcing t for enforcing that policy. We sent four months trying to get the department to talk with us on camera. They refused. Reporter this is a Public Agency so were trying to talk to the head of a Public Agency. Right. The city shrugs their shoulders and by allowing that to occur over and over and over again, that the city has created a culture of failure. Im a big believer that if you make rules, then play by them. Reporter the city of San Francisco tells us it does monitor whether developers actually make a goodfaith effort to assign 50 of their work to Small Businesses. Companies that dont can face up to 50,000 in penalties. Terry and janelle, we learned not a Single Company has ever been fined. If you have a story for our Investigative Unit, give us a call. The number is 888996tips or visit our website nbcbayarea. Com weinvestigate. A check of the forecast now. Definitely cooler and windy. Yes. Temperature is about 10 to 15 degrees cooler than the 70s we had yesterday, but the wind really the big story, firing up mid afternoon and still gust ear out at sfo. Wind speeds have not backed off much. Gusts at 37 miles per hour, west, northwest winds at 26. 51 degrees currently. A high of 59 in San Francisco. San jose down from the 70s, 63 today and wind speeds have come down a bit around the santa clara valley. Notice the coast and peninsula. You will continue to experience those northwest winds all the way through the morning commute. So stay tuned. May have some wind advisories for the mid spans of the bridges as the wind speeds stay up, 15 to 20 miles per hour. Overall, the trend on monday will be breezy and cooler but the wind speeds dont look nearly as strong. About half as strong as those gusty winds that picked up outside this afternoon. Still around San Francisco tonight. Morning temperatures in the windsheltered valley of the north bay, likely to wake up 30s, 40s elsewhere. Highs tomorrow probably the coolest of the next several days, upper 60s and with the breeze probably will feel cooler than that heading into the afternoons. Highs in the upper 50s, and though it seems chilly the numbers you see behind me closer to the average highs for this time of year, close to 60 in oakland, around Half Moon Bay to San Francisco, upper 50s and close to 60s. Stormranger mobile Doppler Radar from the south bay scanning north ward, we had a few sprinkles earlier. Notice the trajectory of the weather system. It is over land which helps make it quite cool but it doesnt have a lot of moisture to work with. By the time it reached the bay area, a lot of wind courtesy of the cool air which rushed in behind the frontal boundary but not much moisture brought over. At least two to four inches in the sierra, so good news across the high country. For bay area in terms of rainfall because were on, again, the dry side of the weather system moving to our south, no measurable rain expect. Maybe a Little Something here for the santa cruz multis or areas south of san martin. You see in the forecast a chance for scattered showers, one last impulse down the coast you see at 6 00 a. M. Maybe around highway 1 or highway 17. Could see a few Early Morning showers and that clears out. The rest of the afternoon looks mostly sunny. More sunshine actually tomorrow than we had today with the overcast skies. Low eventually both onlitoms ou across southern california. Here is the hopeful change, the High Pressure over the west allowing it to pull in moisture. Maybe if we had a nineday forecast we could talk about rain making a comeback. A little beyond the boundaries of the sevenday forecast will call for changes late next weekend. Before we get there the temperatures will rebound again. If you missed the 70s, should see those again by thursday and friday. We hope this time next weekend we will be talking about the return of more rain and a typical pattern for this time of year. Thanks very much. Just ahead, some incredible video out of china. The dramatic situation caught can on camera. Team usa to south korea we cant fly. But you know who can . Helping superheroes fly.
