Also criticizing the city of San Francisco for what he says are laws that prevented police from helping him track down a stolen van. Its a story thats gotten a lot of attention from bay area leaders. This is where the van was recovered at 17th and mission. We spoke with the owner of that company. He said the van was over due, they believe it was stolen. They spotted it in the city, tried to get help, that didnt work. They took matters into their own hands. The van is back at vandango van rentals in San Francisco. A woman rented the van for the day and didnt bring it back. Instead a man called. He declined to extend the rental. He refused to bring it back. Looking into her background he found red flags, he began the required process of waiting and sending certified letters believing the van was likely stolen. You go to the police and file your report and it gets listed as embezzled. He spotted the van near 101 and San Francisco. He followed it. Because of state law surrounding rental vehicles there was little he could do. He went to twitter about his ordeal. Jane kim was among those tweeting back. The police are following state law.
