He is one of the president s most trusted advisers, and this morning rob porter is vehemently denying the accusations by two exwives that he was physically and verbally abusive. Today the white house is reeling from yet another staffer leaving the administration. Now the question is who knew what, and when . This morning another shakeup at the white house. Staff secretary rob porter resigning wednesday, after his two exwives first told the daily mail that he physically and verbally abused them. I knew that it wasnt healthy. Reporter Jennifer Willoughby says the abuse began shortly after she married porter in 2009, detailing the First Physical incident to the washington post. He came and grabbed me by the shoulders here and pulled me out of the shower in a rage. Reporter willoughby describing porter as someone with two different personalities. Professionally, he is intelligent, and he is measured, and he is certainly someone that i would trust in that professional position and in his personal life he is also abusive and angry. Reporter nbc news obtained a protective order willoughby filed in 2010, alleging porter would not leave her home for over 30 minutes after multiple requests during their agreed separation. She says he punched in the glass on the door. I called the police, afraid he would break in, she said. The daily mail publishing this photo of porters first wife, colbie holderness, who says porter gave her this black eye after their 2003 wedding. She confirms the account of her allegations to nbc news, alleging he choked and emotionally abused her. Porter denies the claims of both exes, saying in a statement in part, these outrageous allegations are simply false. I took the photos given to the media nearly 15 years ago and the reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described. I have been transparent and truthful about these vial claims, but i will not further engage publicly with a coordinated smear campaign. Porter, who sat close to the oval office, most recently helped write the state of the Union Address and is reportedly dating White House Communications director, hope hicks. This morning, there are growing questions about when white house officials first learned of allegations from porters past. Chief of staff john kelly was made aware of some of the allegations of Domestic Abuse against porter months earlier, according to one former white house official, and it is believed porter only had temporary security clearance, although its not clear why. The white house defending his character wednesday. The president and chief of staff have had full confidence and trust in his abilities and his performance. Reporter and in a statement, chief of staff john kelly signalled that the transition may be faster than anticipated with some indications porter could be out as early as today. He said i stand by my previous comments of rob porter that i have known to come since becoming chief of staff. One white house official says porter could leave as early as today. Hoda and savannah . Kristen welker at the white house. Thanks. Another big story in washington, the race to avoid the next Government Shutdown. There is a new deal in place, but with tonights deadline fast approaching, there are some key sticking points and they could stand in the way. Lets go to nbcs Peter Alexander with that story. Leaders in the senate agreeing not only to keep the lights on for now, but to try to avoid this issue in the near future. The senate expected to vote today, but the question right now, will the house buy it . This morning congress staring at a midnight deadline to pass a spending deal to avoid a Government Shutdown for the second time in as many months. But on capitol hill, a bipartisan budget breakthrough could end the cycle of crises through 2019. This bill represents a significant bipartisan step forward. We have reached a budget deal that neither side loves, but both sides can be proud of. Thats compromise. Thats governing. Reporter the senate deal would add hundreds of billions of dollars in military and domestic spending over the next two years, ending severe cuts known as the sequester. It also funds Disaster Relief for areas devastated by last years hurricanes and wildfires and extends the Childrens HealthInsurance Program for another four years, through 2028. President trump just a day after threatening a shutdown if he didnt get his way on immigration not addressed in this deal, now touting the agreement tweeting republicans and democrats must support our troops and support this bill. But not everyone is satisfied. The houses top democrat, nancy pelosi, delivering her message in a marathon eighthour floor speech, the longest in more than a century. I had no intention of yielding back, mr. Speaker. Reporter pelosi insisting she wont support the deal without a debate about extending protection for younger undocumented immigrants, known as dreamers. Our dreamers hang in limbo with a cruel cloud of fear and uncertainty above them. Reporter conservatives upset too. I just think its a bad deal records one republican blasting the proposal as disgusting and reckless, fiscal insanity he writes. Outside that deal, another government cost being questioned, the president s proposal for a military parade, with the pentagon now making preliminary plans. The president s respect, his fondness for the military i think is reflected in him asking for these options. Reporter critics, quick to pounce. Were not north korea, were not russia, were not china. And i dont want to be. Reporter meanwhile, President Trump seizing on hundreds of millions of Text Messages exchanged by a pair of fbi officials in a romantic relationship. Bombshells, the president calls them, including one with an apparent reference to president obama that reads, potus wants to know everything were doing, but critics say theres no evidence of wrongdoing. Former president george w. Bush said theres pretty clear evidence that the russians meddled in the 2016 election. He was speaking at a summit in the united arab emirates. But everybody i know that has a dog thats deaf or blind or other special needs, they tell me they would do it again many times over because those dogs are really super super appreciative of their family.
