After one of those closest to the president , white house staff secretary rob porter, resigned a day after british news outlet thedailymail. Com, reported on allegations from two exwives claiming porter physically and verbally abused them. The white house says porters decision to resign was a personal one and that he would stay on temporarily to ensure a smooth transition. But new reporting from the New York Times overnight flies in the face of that statement, claiming porters last day is today. The development not confirmed by nbc news comes as we hear from porters second exwife, jennifer willoughby, for the first time. And heres what she told the Washington Post about her interview with the fbi regarding porters alleged abuse. I told them all of the details of my marriage, including verbal and emotional abuse, and including the incident when he pulled me out of the shower. They were also made aware of the protective order that i signed in june of 2010. And they were also made aware of the time i had the Police Called to our home after a domestic disturbance. Willoughby confirmed that account to nbc news. And late last night the white house chief of staff john kelly issued a statement which read in part, i was shocked by the allegations released against rob porter. Theres no place for Domestic Violence in our society. However, that statement comes as a former white house official tells nbc news that mr. Porter sits outside the oval office and controls all the documents that land on the president s desk. In a statement porter called the claims outrageous and simply false and a coordinated smear campaign. The president and chief of staff have had full confidence and trust in his abilities and his performance. Reporter chief of staff john kelly called porter a man of integrity even as the reports of abuse by porter first appeared in the daily mail including this picture of porters first exwife, colby holderness, who told the paper porter punched her, giving her this black eye soon after their 2003 marriage. Holderness also alleges porter choked her and emotionally abused her. Porter firing back, i took the photos given to the media nearly 15 years ago and the reality behind them is nowhere close to what is being described. Porters second exwife, jennifer willoughby, told the daily mail porter dragged her wet and naked out of the shower and was verbally abusive, an account she confirms to nbc news. Nbc news has also obtained a 2010 protective order where willoughby told police during their separation porter ignored her multiple requests to leave her home and at one point punched in the glass on the door. I called the police, afraid that he would break in, she said. Mounting questions about how porter was given such close access to the president and the documents that crossed his desk. A former white house official says chief of staff john kelly was aware of the allegations of abuse before the story broke. Two sources familiar with the matter tell nbc news it is believed porter was never given full security clearance, although its not clear why. The administration now on defense. I think that was a personal decision that rob made and one that he was not pressured to do but one that he made on his own. Reporter the white house is not commenting on porters security clearance. One other layer to this, porter is reportedly dating Communications Director hope hicks, who plays a role in all public statements from the white house including those that were sent out tuesday night in porters defense. Senators hammering out a twoyear deal just as a swarm of young dreamers descended onto the house. Nancy pelosi telling the stories of the dreamers that are left out of this latest compromise. These are the undocumented immigrants brought to this country as children. She says if they arent in this deal it will not get her vote. But interestingly, shes not insisting that democrats follow, and thats one of the reasons why today on this deadline the numbers are up in the air. There is a compromise that was hammered out in the senate. Democrat Chuck Schumer called it a genuine breakthrough. Heres what that deal does. Ends the mandatory limits called sequesters that went into effect years ago, increasing spending nearly 400 billion over the next two years. It includes money for domestic spending, military spending, more than the president asked for, Disaster Relief funds, treating opioids, infrastructure, health research. It extends Childrens Health insurance for a decade and the debt limit for one year. It is a massive plan but its a plan that may not pass. The president tweeted about it saying that republicans and democrats must support the troops and must support this bill. The senates expected to pass it today, but its not clear in the house. Elsewhere in washington the buzz is about the revelation that the president has requested the pentagon to stage a military parade through the streets of washington. Its certainly not unprecedented but some are asking why now and is it worth spending tens of millions . Nbcs chief White House CorrespondentHallie Jackson has the story. Reporter its been 27 years since tanks and troops paraded past pennsylvania avenue. Now the pentagons preliminarily planning another procession. Why divert time, energy, Financial Resources to the planning of a parade as the president s asked .
