Tonight, investigators are trying to figure out what caused the truck to careen out of control. Crews are getting ready to tow it away. The collision has left three people seriously injured. But it could have been much worse. I ripped off this door. Reporter larry shows the burned car where a family was trapped before he and others sprang into action. Our main focus was to get people out of the minivan because they were going to burn. Reporter he had just driven through the intersection when a runaway dump truck filled with fire debris slammed into a pickup truck, before colliding with a halfdozen cars that burst into flame. It happened so quick, it was so enormous. It was like bombs were going off. Reporter this woman took video of the flames. She says it brought memories of the tubbs fire pouring in. There were five to six vehicles fully engulfed. People running for their lives. If this man did not pull over and took control like he did, all those people would have p perished. Reporter he helped save neighbors during the tubbs fire, a fire that destroyed his home along with so many others. I lost my house in the tubbs fire. And i fought the fire for five hours that night. Reporter this time around, six people suffered injuries on the corner of santa rosa thats already seen so much loss. This man is a godsend from heaven. Hes a hero. Yeah. Hes a hero. It happened about an hour ago. Were gathering the details of the crash. The officer was the only person hurt and was taken to a local hospital. Mountain view Police Say Drugs or alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this collision. And the driver of the car involved is cooperating fully with the investigation. The state is stepping in since feds are no longer overseeing policing reforms in San Francisco. That from the San Francisco mayor and police chief. Caltrans crew s flanked by chp and police officers, sweeped an encampment today that was formed several years ago when a bigger one, called the jungle, was swept and closed. The Homeless People were given 72 hours notice. They say its a sweep. And they come in and clean up. But they dont clean up right. They leave a bunch of stuff behind. You have people that are disabled vets. You have elderly women, men, who cant really do for themselves. Reporter but homeowner gabriel lives across the street and is relieved.
