Reporter its a bombshell, she said her teacher showered her with ainfection, kisses, gifts. She said that her had parents hand delivered a letter to the school to report it and what happened next allowed the teach for have access to hundreds of students for years. I never questioned authority and i think that is why he choses me. Leslie was a freshman at Presentation High School in 1983 when she met this spanish teacher, john fernandez. He would give you hugs. He would give you kisses on your hands. On your cheek. He would give me chocolates. He would give me pens. And then, he gave me a very expensive leather samptchel. She said the attention maud her feel uneasy. He wrote in my year book, to me dear friend the most charming girl in the school, affectionately john fernandez. I know that she told mr. Fernandez because he came up to me in the hallway that week and ask me, why did your parents send that letter. In 1990 three years after the report, a student we are calling jane doe said that he molested her during a School Sponsored trip n a statement online, jane writes mr. Fernandez sexually abused me, i was only 16 years old. We were friends since 6 years old and she was a different person. She and jane went to someone they trusted. Again the principal, to repowha happened . She said look her in the eyes and repeat that it was a dream and it did not happen. The girls struggled with the response and went to the vice principal. She is the Current School principal. Ms. Miller turned to me and said, you know, the walls have ears so you better be careful what you are saying and who you are saying it to. Theres no excuse for that. This is the chair of the child abuse prevention council. She said miller and stuckey may have violated state law by not calling police to investigate. There should have ban report to the police. To the police. Thats the expectation under the law. Thats the expectation, yeah. You are just accepting whatever information that the child is telling you and then, as soon as you have that information, you make the phone call to the police department. Despite multiple complaints about fernandez first from leslie in 1987 and jane doe in 1990 and kate in 1993. His arm moved my hand up to my breast. He is grabbing my hand and kissing it. We have confirmed the school never made any reports to police about it. Instead, presentation honored mr. Fernandez as teacher of the year in 1995. He died in 2015 after nearly 20 years at the school. The board of directors no one from Presentation High School will agree to an interview. And in its latest statement they repeated the stance that due to privacy, and confidently, they cannot discuss the claim and they are saying that it regrets that any graduate of presentation felt unsafe because of anything they perceived the administration has done or not done. It has now snowballed, others have gone public with allegations of sexual assault, harassment and in appropriate touching. But if school is standing by principal miller and denies the accounts of the women. Are they calling you a liar . If they do, that is okay as long as they change their behavior. That is a response that spurred a petition with 3500 signatures calling for the new leadership. They protected the teachers over the students. If they took the appropriate and legal action that they should have, it would have spared at least two people that we know about, the abuse they suffered.
