Is talking about, tough visibility down to zero on her sensors, but that means you can barely see in front of you. Slow down the car when that is the case. Looking at no major problems for that portion of the bay. There is slowing for westbound highway 4 towards cummings sky way, a disabled vehicle continues to be in the center divide. Five chp cruisers are on scene, they are also warning about fog in the area which may be a tougher issue. They flared off at least one lane and i continue to follow this. Thats an issue from 680 over toward i80. If you use 24 you are in the clear. The rest of the bay moves well. We were watching hayward, there was earlier activity there, saw a which was shut down for a period much time and now kris sanchez is out there. We saw that video and you of course have more of the story. Reporter hi there, mike. You can see that the intersection is once again open, not moving super quickly, but we do have video of where this crash happened. It was a crash between the chp cruiser and a regular civilian driver. Take a look at this video here. It looks a little more dramatic than it actually was and thats a fortunate thing. The chp hayward tells us that an officer hit another vehicle headon, but it was a low thus the injuries were minor at this point. Okay. So here is what happened, chp officer was in pursuit of agn3x suspect pickup truck on i880 when that suspect whipped off the highway via the a street off ramp and made it through that intersection. As that chp officer was trying to clear the intersection with lights and sirens on that officer failed to see that small sedan that was there near the 1 intersection. At this point we dont know who was to blame in that crash but the chp is investigating. The good news for you, though, is that this is now open, a street is now open, though, as you can see drivers are clogging it up for a completely different reason. In hayward, kris sanchez, today in the bay. It isv[gl 6 02 right now. Live to washington, d. C. A couple key problems, though, this one not so much of an issue unless youre driving south on 17, there is a disabled big rig reported right around the cat statues. Folks local to the area know that well. We havent had any slowdowns on the sensors but note it is still in the chp report. The rest of the bay moves great, peninsula, east bay just mild slowing through hayward. No real problems except for fog through the trivalley at times. Fog also for highway 4. We continue traffic break and flares over there off of highway 4 and mccould you want and the north bay has fog over there as well. Coming up next in today in the bay, no tears allowed. One of the things that we found is that if theres sort of a right and wrong way to cry. If you do it wrong, it can be really damaging to your career. The pressure. At 6 14 theres new research at uc davis, they are taking a closer look at an issue not normally talked about, women crying at work. The Research Shows it happens a lot with women in executive level positions to administrative assistants. Personal issues such as divorce and stress and things like heated meetings or getting negative feedback are some of the main reasons women cry at work. A professor tells today in the bay there are the right ways to cry at work. Telling people that youre trying to stop crying and that youre not doing it on purpose, so, im really sorry, this is very very stressful time for me or this is a stressful project, and if you just if we can just take a little break, i should be able to continue in a minute. Those kinds of things really help a lot. The professor says men are raised not to cry while growing up. While women are. President trump just wrapped up his address to millionaires and billionaires in switzerland. Scott mcgrew joins you now. The president says America First doesnt mean america alone. The president , good morning, had a very measured speech, laura and marcus, to the World Economic forum saying he supports world trade as long as its fair and encouraged the gathering of investors and businesspeople to invest in america. Lets face it, this is a gathering of billionaire global lists which in many ways runs counter to trumps America First program which he addressed. I believe in america. As president of the United States i will always put America First, just like the leaders of other countries should put their Country First also. But America First does not mean america alone. The president was interviewed after the speech by the founder of the World Economic forum who did not ask him about the biggest news of the day today, the blockbuster New York Times article that says trump tried to fire the special counsel. We will talk more about that later. The biggest news in the Mueller Investigation so far. Some bad news came in while mr. Trump was speaking, Economic Growth in the u. S. Slowed in the last quarter. Still healthy, but unexpectedly hit the brakes. Consumer spending, though, is still strong. Somebody i want you to meet, this young man is an immigrant out of colombia who along with his Fraternity Brother at cal berkeley created a Natural Foods company. Now, theyre still in their 20s and already have products in whole foods and actually supply all the breakfast cereal to the new York City School system. We launched a cereal that is not only in Whole Foods Market nationwide but we went after the School System and we said, let the kids taste this cereal. So through taste tests the kids actually approved our cereal over some of the big competitors like kelloggs and now every single morning 1. 1 million kids per day are being fed our breakfast cereal. I want to try the cereal. Hes just too young to know you cant do that. You cant just walk into the new york School System and say, hey, taste test and they give you a account for 1 million kids. So we say. Amazing. Thats press here in weekend. Sunday morning. Also this weekend what you can do besides watching that before you or after you watch you can actually go see the maze runner franchise, it comes to an end as the last film hits theaters this weekend. Well, the week went pretty quick, we are finally on friday. We made it through the storms, the hail, the rainbows, the sunshine. We got a taste of it all, folks. In the mountains and sierra they got a good amount of snowfall. Right now what we are looking out for is that 24hour temperature change along with the fog. Look at halfmoon bay. 11 degrees colder this morning than we were yesterday. The temperatures across the board remain in the 40s. Peninsula 43, trivalley 37, 39 in the north bay, San Francisco at 44 and in terms of that visibility, be careful, i did just tweet this out right now because were starting to see some pretty dense fog, especially for the north bay, down to less than a half a mile in santa rosa, even in napa as well. Really starting to see some of that dense fog so just slow it down out there, be safe and that storm system that brought all of that activity and the torrential rain yesterday, now officially moved off to the east. Yes, with err still spotting a couple showers here and there, but that High Pressure will dominate leaving behind plenty of sunshine and look at the temperatures in the 50s for today. Highs of about 51 degrees for San Francisco, 58 for san jose. Once we kind of set up for this High Pressure system to roll in over the next seven days we start a warming trend in the bay area. What does that mean for us . Well, we will be ending the last week of january as of right now on a dry note. 59 degrees for sunday into monday and tuesday well start to climb into the 60s each for San Francisco. Check out inland areas, 63 degrees on sunday, 64 for monday and we kind of set up for a nice weekend ahead, but are the roads as nice as my weather maps . Nothing is as nice as the weather around here. We are looking at fog. You were talking about those, so i guess we jive with that. That makes sense because the traffic and weather systems share the data. This orange here says that same thing vianeys maps say, the fog in the north bay and perhaps at times limited visibility for many of our drivers. We havent heard of many major problems. There is a crashmm over off o e< it jams up right around mare island. Island. This is much worse, but qo like maybe starting to improve slowing to mcewan and five chp cruisers will be there for the majority of our morning. I will see if chp gives us an update because the speeds look like they are improving. The backup at the bay bridge still there, the metering lights aree nothinglixr[ else major going around the bay. I will show you the san mateo bridge because we do have that westbound commute starting so its a slower drive on the flat section, but, look, you can see the highrise over the shoulder and thats moving a little more smoothly now. Sounds like we had a minor crash in the newsroom, but papers are back in place. Back to you guys. A lot of people want to know what just happened or what happens behind the scenes. Were screaming it live right now on facebook, followfoipcb welcome back, everyone. It is 6 25. Nbc bare responds to a sunnyvale man who says his year old air conditioner just wasnt working right. Breaking news for you, another crime spree involving young people in the bay areas largest city. It is another snapshot of a larger problem plaguing san jose over the past month. Kris sanchez joins us with a look at some of the new video that came into our newsroom overnight and revealing numbers that she found. Reporter the scene just cleared here at tully and capital but we can tell you it was a stolen pickup truck and the folks in that pickup truck were minors. Lets show you the video from when that scene was unfolding moments ago. Police told us that the four minors were in that stolen pickup truck when they blew out a tire. The officers waited for their parents to show up, the teens were cited and then they were releas released. There has been a rash of crimes committed by minors recently and the San Jose Police chief concedes that part of the problem is that juveniles face limited consequences for crimes like this. Just last night we were on scene in san joses evergreen neighborhood where officers busted a group of suspected car thieves, some of them who were officers went door to door with long rifles and k9s before they were taken into custody. They were all between the ages of 16 and 14. We had a rash a few summers ago, i was out here two summers ago and we took care of it and when a crew gets arrested the next one moves in. Reporter ever green has seen a dramatic it increase in burglaries but you can see from this crime reports map on your screen it is not the only neighborhood. Those icons on your screen represent violent crime, property crime and auto thefts reported to San Jose Police in just the last three days. Were only six hours into this were going jm map via my Facebook Page because you can search by zip code, you can also search for the street where you live. Police arrested a young woman, our newsroom is actively researching and reaching out to find police to see if we can find out more about the circumstances that led up to this crash. 6 34. New this morning and a heads up if youre heading to the city this weekend. It turns out very few arrests have been made in connection with tens of thousands of car breakins in San Francisco. Several years. Today in the bays pete suratos joins us live in San Francisco this morning to explain why. It seems like all of us know someone who has been the victim of a car breakin, pete. Reporter yeah, thats right, laura. Continues to be a problem there in the city of San Francisco and in that new report that came out from the San Francisco chronicle were seeing a very small percentage of arrests when it comes to car breakins. Of course, their data is based off of online claims which make up a majority of the claims that people are claiming when filing those reports of those car breakins. In that report that were seeing this morning theyre saying that 13 arrests out of more than 81,000 online claims have been made. Thats between a sevenyear period. Thats according to data theyre getting from the District Attorneys office. In 2017 they are reported more than 30,000 car breakins took place. You compare that to 2011 where there were fewer than 11,000 breakins. As of right now San Francisco is seeing an average of 85 car breakins a day, thats a pretty big number. Lets show you a map right now of some of the problem areas where we see those breakins, not surprisingly youre seeing it mostly in the downtown San Francisco area as well as through the mission district. Some have pointed to prop 47 as the issue behind this, which of course raised the threshold for felony theft up to 950, but a recent study by the californians for safety and justice claims there has been little change in crime since the prop passed in 2014. A bill is being considered by the state senate to close a loophole when it comes to this issue that would allow prosecutors to prove the defendant committed the breakin by showing he or she broke a car window to get into the car. Its got the endorsement of San Franciscos District Attorney who spoke about this earlier this week. I dont want anyone to be led to believe that i believe that this legislation would be a Silver Bullet that somehow is going to end car burglaries in the city, but its simply a tool that will give us the ability to work in cases that we havent been able to. Reporter San Francisco police say that nearly 500 auto burglary arrests were made last year in 2017 in San Francisco, but the chronicle says only one of those arrests are connected to the online claims that they are reporting on. I want to point out police have increased foot patrols in some of those problem areas, but this continues to clearly be a problem in the city of San Francisco. Were live in San Francisco, pete suratos for today in the bay. Clear out your cars, dont leave anything valuable in there out in the open.
