San jose for the most part as you head out the door and drive up the peninsula and up the east bay you will encounter some rain. We will talk about this rain as it lingers for the next couple of hours, thats coming up in the microclimate forecast. Those wet roads and a crash in San Francisco. You will find a lot of spinouts or i will spine a lot of spinouts and tell you about them, many throughout the morning. Easy to see the wet roadways, green highlighting where its the wettest right now. In San Francisco we continue to follow this crash northbound 280 at caesar chavez. Reports that chp hopes to have all lanes open soon. 101 north up to say sar chavez is your alternate. I will let you know whether or not they clear that before 5 00. Wet roadways throughout the north bay and a little fog perhaps over west of novato. We will track all of this this morning. We also have breaking news out of san jose this morning. Police surrounding a south San Jose Hotel in a standoff thats been under way for about 12 hours already. Its happening at the Wyndham Garden Hotel on Silicon Valley boulevard near highway 101. A witness tells us police were on the second floor using a battering ram at one point. We know there are multiple Police Agencies that are involved already this morning, including the fire department. We will bring you a live report coming up at 5 30. Still shut down, the federal government closed for a third day as lawmakers on capitol hill try to reach a deal. The senate is scheduled to vote at 9 00 a. M. Our time on a bill to fund the government for three weeks. The Senate Majority leader republican Mitch Mcconnell says that he will work on a daca resolution once the government reopens. This morning Senate Minority leader Chuck Schumer set to meet with democrats who are skeptical that republicans wont follow through and take action to protect d. R. E. A. M. Ers. A developing story in south san jose this morning, Police Investigating a deadly shooting outside the assent apartments, it happened on charlotte drive right off of cottle road and raleigh. Police say the victim a man was dead when they arrived. No info on a motive or suspect so far, but today in the bays bob redell is on his way to that apartment complex to gather more information. Today a pittsburg family takes a painful step, one daughter is dead and another on life support after police say a driver fleeing from officers crashed into them last week. Today they are set to take that twoyearold off of life support. There was a vigil for both girls last night and last check Camila Cardoza was declared brain dead from that crash. Relatives tell us that her organs will soon be donated. Her older sister died shortly after that crash last wednesday, their mother the only person in that car other than them was also injured but is out of the hospital now. Relatives tell us that now theyre forced to imagine a future without those girls. Were not going to see them grow up, were not going to see them go to school, were not going to see them graduate, were not going to see them walk down the aisle when we get married. They took everything from us. Contra costa sheriffs deputies arrested 23yearold noe saucedo. He was in a stolen truck and was being chased by sheriffs deputies when he caused that crash. Happening today, the new real id is available at the dmv. Soon you wont be able to board a domestic flight with your current drivers license. Starting in the fall of 2020 you will need a real id to board a plane within the u. S. Or federally secured facility, otherwise you will have to present a u. S. Passport or military id. Officials want to make clear your current drivers license will remain valid for everything else. There is no need to rush into a dmv field office. Until october 1st, 2020, a valid california drivers license or id card can be used for federal purposes, including boarding and domestic flight, entering military bases or secure federal facilities. To get a new real id you have to appear in person, you do need to be able to prove who you are, so bring Something Like a passport or permanent resident card. A real id drivers license costs 35. If you want the id without a drivers license it will cost 30. Continuing coverage, highway at least 21 people were killed and hundreds of homes were destroyed or damaged in mudslides. Plenty of earnings including netflix out this afternoon. On friday the dow rose to 26,071. The nasdaq up 40 to 7,336. Wall street believes the Government Shutdown will have a minimal impact on the economy if its resolved soon, but a prolonged standoff could take a toll. About 850,000 federal workers may be furloughed which would reduce spending on their wages by about 1. 5 billion a week, but if the shutdown is brief the economy would recover as those employees receive back pay. A shutdown could also affect business and Consumer Confidence and potentially delay the start of the tax filing season. Amazon will open its new store powered by Artificial Intelligence downtown seattle today. Amazon go has been tested by amazon employees for the past year. Shoppers will be able to scan their phone with the amazon go app at a turnstile, pick out items they want and leave without going through a checkout line. Thanks for joining us for today in the bay. Quarter to 5 00 right now as we take a live look outside from our san rafael camera, see the s curve there. Showers in the north bay and other parts of the bay area this morning. See how long we have to hang on to that umbrella. It will last a little while longer. The people heading out the earliest will have to deal for the rain and the later crowd wont see that much. They will be like, oh, its wet outside and then it will be out of here. We are looking at some of those showers rolling through right now and its going to be with us for the next couple of hours or so as we get a closer look at the south bay right now, rain has been skipping around san jose but then you head up toward milpitas and we are seeing that rain there also in fremont. As we go up the peninsula north of palo alto you are starting to see the showers rolling through san mateo and also for San Francisco, across the bay over toward oakland as well as the trivalley where were seeing that rain coming down in spots. Its been pretty scattered and as we go through the day we will get some clearing, temperatures reaching into the mid 50s for the north bay, upper 50s for the south bay and the inland areas, up to 60 degrees in San Francisco. As we look at whats going to happen at 8 00 and our rainfall totals that we should see at that time, looks like we should have about a quarter of an inch of rain in San Francisco, higher in oakland. As we get a look at our rain totals in san jose only a few hundreds of an inch, by 1 00 its all out of here as we go through the rest of the day. Our skies will be clearing. As youre getting dressed this morning if you are part of this early crowd you will need the umbrella and light long sleeves. Temperatures are fairly mild. As we go through the day we will get some sunshine, so you will need the sunglasses and also you will be comfortable with some pants on today and its a good one also for making sure you are prepared for it all. As we go through the rest of the week we will see our next round of rain moving in by wednesday afternoon and also leading into thursday as well. On friday we will get some sunshine and also for a saturday except for the north bay where we will see some rain moving in around ukiah, but that will be the only spot seeing those showers. After the storm system that moves through on wednesday, most of the bay area will be dry into the weekend. So we will have a couple more rounds of rain today and then again between wednesday and thursday. Temperatures stay on the cool side over the next couple of days reaching into the low 60s inland and then the weekend is looking really nice, mid 60s by sunday. As we head over to mike now, a new crash in oakland. Thats right, but it will be tough to see because our camera is too far south, for a while this camera couldnt see the roadway, there was enough rainfall or clouds drifting through there it was really blurry, you can see the mist and water kicking up from the cars there, making the head lights and taillights glow north of the coliseum. The crash is north of there, right around 29th. You see that there is no slowing here, a little slowing eastbound 580 typical from time to time as one or two slower moving vehicles, and the green highlighting means wet roadways around the north bay, east bay getting over and into San Francisco and from San Francisco we have this crash northbound 280 at cesar chavez, one lane is fully opened, chp talks about doing round robins to slow traffic, theyre trying to get this vehicle involved and deb dri over to the shoulder clearing all lanes hopefully in the next 20 minutes. 101 itself is a better route, light traffic through the area, but watch the slippery continues anywhere north of the dumbarton bridge, south of there still damp so use caution. It is 4 48 right now. New this morning a uc Berkeley Student back in class. He spent the holidays in the custody of immigration and customs enforcement. He arrived at Oakland Airport yesterday. He is an undocumented immigrant who came to the u. S. From colombia legally at the age of 11, but his visa expired. He was detained while he and his girlfriend were in san diego over christmas. He had been in i. C. E. Custody for nearly three weeks and says he is more determined than ever to succeed. A little bit nervous but excited to continue my education and show everyone what d. R. E. A. M. Ers are made of in this country. As i said, he was 11 when he came to the u. S. Which means he did not qualify for daca protection. This is an interesting one here, the fear of deportation is keeping legal immigrants from seeing a doctor. That is the word from a texas nonprofit this morning. The group says legal im grants from latin american countries are not signing up for healthcare and theyre not seeking treatment when theyre sick. They say the reason for this is many fear their information could be used to identify and deport undocumented relatives. Today more women are set to give testimony at the sentencing hearing for larry nassar. He is accused of sexually abusing more than 140 girls and women. The judge is allowing any and all victims to speak despite objections from nassar. He already pleaded guilty to criminal sexual misconduct. Prosecutors want a 125year prison sentence. There is also growing backlash against Michigan State university where nassar also worked and assaulted girls in the 1990s. The woman says she reported complaints in the 90s but she says the university did not act. Pope francis is back in rome this morning, returning home overnight after a week long trip to south america. Before leaving peru the pope celebrated an open air mass before a massive crowd of 1. 3 million people. They saw some violence and fallout from a Church Sex Abuse scandal. There were protests in chile and several churches were set on fire there during the visit. As weve been telling you california has been hit hard by the flu, dozens sadly have died but were also learning dog flu is spreading. There are now confirmed cases of canine flu in the city. No word on how many cases. Veterinarians say symptoms are a runny nose, cough, eye discharge. Last week veterinarians in the south bay reported about 70 dogs with signs of the flu. In sacramento a rare military document written by Alexander Hamilton goes up for auction this week. The founding father wrote it near the end of the revolutionary war. When she went to go use it, though, it had a zero balance, the 20 bucks was gone. Macys told cheryl the card had been used at another location. Cheryl said that was impossible because the card had been stashed away at her home. Macys stood its ground so cheryl turned to us for help. First we want to talk about the commute in just a moment but kari here to talk about the wet stuff that we see on the roads. You have to turn on the windshield wipers this morning and it may be a slippery drive. Make sure that you are ready for some wet roads and also a longer commute for some. We are going to see this round of rain moving through fairly quickly, its going to be in and out of here. As we get a closer look we can see that for the most part the rain was skipped around san jose, only a few spotty light showers, but go a little north of san jose and you will start to run into that rain. By 8 30 we will start to see this tapering off, through the rest of the day it will leave a tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain for the bay area. We w
