Now that man had to be had been stuck there for about two hours in the cold temperatures, group of friends later called rescuers who were able to bring that noon safety around 2 30e this morning. Police say they were called out to the scene and found the victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He died shortly after. We spoke with one witness who didnt want us to show her face. She says shes worried about her leasew who was out for a walk at the time of the shooting. We were just eating and then we seen all of these cops just driving through here. And so we all came outside, and then we were trying to call my nephew to see if its him because he walks down through that way. Police have not released any sformation on suspects. Well streets are back open in Mountain View after a deadly crash involving a charter bus nod a motorcycle. That happened around 6 00 last night. As you can see, cleanup went well into the night. The crash happened near googles headquarters. Sadly, the motorcyclist was killed. The woman said she was driving right behind the bus. I immediately called 911, told them what i had seen, where he was on the road. As i was on the phone with 911, sporta started forming over to him, he tried a system, tried to n ve him. Were going to talk about that sierra snow pass, lets get a live look outside right now, ocean beach, and its been so mild here, breezy, a lot of sunshine and we are going to continue to warm up from here looking at anderson reservoir, normally this is the time were replenishing those reservoirs, we can see how dry it is right now and the water levels have been quite low and now our temperatures are in the mid50s which is still a little bit on the cool side. You still need a light jacket and then our temperatures today warm up to 64 degrees in downtown san jose. 66 degrees in gilroy, and well have some low to mid60s for the east bay. Also you want to check out that seven day forecast at the bottom of the screen showing that we will have several more days of some dry weather. Oakland, well see a high of 60 degrees today and 60 also in redwood city. San francisco, upper 50s, mostly sunny skies and north bay look for a high of 64 degrees in santa rosa and napa. 62 degrees. So lets talk about how dry its been and this is the driest weve had driest december weve had since 2011 and 1989, weve only measuringed 800ths of an inch in santa rosa, oakland, almost a tenth of inch of rain there. This is for the whole month. And we are still meeting at least three to five inches of rain even more in the north bay. We are going to try to catch up with that during the month of january because of right now, were only zero to 3 of normal. Only measuring the very trace amounts that weve seen throughout the month. But, were still doing pretty good as we look live at north star. We know that at times, especially at night, they make some of the snow there and kind of smooth things out. Weve had some cold temperatures in the sierra, but our snow pack still very low as we get a look at some of the numbers there and compare it to last year, were only at about 28 of average, statewide, for our sierra snow pack month today. And the central sierra, only 33 of normal. So we talked about that chance of rain in the forecast next week. Hopefully it will bring in a pretty good amount of rain and some snow, but too far out right now to tell, but the models are picking up on a pretty good plume of moisture and a change in this pattern that will hopefully continue into the month of january. And we are going to have a few more days of some dry weather, which is probably good news for everyone going out for a party or have some new years eve plans, itll be in the mid40s for our low temperature in San Francisco, highs up to 60 degrees and then well start to see some more clouds moving in as soon as we flip that calendar to 2018. Our High Temperatures for the inland areas as warm as 67 degrees, cold during the mornings and all dry until well be tracking that rain until tuesday into wednesday of next week. Nbc investigators are now working to figure out why the engineer failed to slow the train down before the curve. And reviewing everything that happened in hopes of preventing another tragedy on the tracks. As for answers, the nbc says the full review could take 12 to 24 months. Part could include a look at whether an automated safety feature called positive train control would have prevented that crash. And chances are that as we near the january 1st date when recreational pot becomes legal, youll likely see a lot more, why . Because its powerful advertising that seems to work. Just ask every executive director of magnolia wellness. 750,000 individuals use every week some enormous number of people. Reporter her company had this billboard along freeway 580 advertising her medical marijuana facility for a year. But after getting pushback from her community, she took it down. We took the billboard down, we definitely saw less daily visits, it did impact or bottom line. Reporter there are very few regulations governing those billboards. And they cant be placed on highways that extend outside california. Meanwhile, as the cannabis billboards are getting a lot of attention, the chp has a new eyecatching campaign of its own. Temporary billboards also designed to coincide with january 1st legal recreational pot use, those signs say, drive high, get a dui. The law says the proposition was passed and people are allowed to use it, we want to make sure that people understand that you cant driving under the influence of marijuana or any drug. Called tiny homes for the homeless is generating a big san joses plan to set up socalled pining homes for home list is generating a big outcry from opponents and calls to remove at least one counsel member who supports the plan. The story youll only see on nbc bay area, robert hunt joins us for one of those top sites from those tiny homes to tell us about new push to recall a city leader. Reporter the reality is this is a tough topic that impacts every corner of the city. A city plan that might pull longterm housing here specifically tiny homes has generated mixed emotions and now a possible recall movement here in City Council District 2. Tiny homes are essentially 70 square foot structures with water and electricity designed to provide basic needs. It hasnt been a popular proposal, at one time, san jose had 99 possible sites that dwindled to two. Reporter opponents have said tiny homes are too expensive to build and operate and attract drugs and crime. Petition for recall is really the wrong approach. And we know its been a dry month, but actually the Drought Monitor was updated today and still does not include the bay area for even abnormally dry conditions. Were at 60 degrees now and 53 in San Francisco with our highs today reaching into the mid60s for today in cupertino, 62 degrees and 63 in fremont, antioch, expect a high of 61 and 60 degrees in redwood city, palo alto will reach into 61 degrees there and the Mission District at 59 for the north bay, a high of 60 degrees can be expected in mill valley and light winds coming in from the east. Now if youre going out jogging today in San Francisco, it will mostly be up to about 58 degrees and well get that High Temperature at 2 00 today, also some breezy winds, but sunshine, you will be able to be comfortable going out for a jog with some light long sris and probably sop shorts as well. We know how fast the temperatures drop. 4 00 today, itll be cooling off into the 50s as we go into this evening and you may have family here getting ready to head back home. I want to show you elsewhere across the country and while we have some very mild weather, there is bitter, bitter cold moving across parts of the Eastern States and northern plains, the midwest and moving out towards the east. Today the High Temperature, 18 degrees, new years eve, theyre expecting temperatures in the teens in time for the ball to drop in times square. Heads up about that. Here in San Francisco, we will have temperatures at about 50 degrees around midnight on new years eve, and there may be some fog rolling in. Thats going to be something well have to watch, especially with the fireworks in San Francisco. And then the rest of the forecast shows we will be mostly dry for the rest of the year, we begin 2018 with a chance of some showers moving in by tuesday into wednesday. And at this time, it looks like a pretty decent push of some moisture and i wanted to give you an early look at what some of the computer models are showing as far as how much rain we could see by tuesday into wednesday of next week, looks like we could have a quarter of an inch and maybe a half inch for parts of the north bay. Ill continue to monitor that for you, but were looking good here as we wrap up the end of the year, and temperatures slightly above normal for this time, we are going to be reaching for the inland areas up to 67 degrees tomorrow and staying in the 60s throughout the rest of the weekend.
