The driver of the car that hit the woman stopped. That driver is cooperating with the investigation. As of right now, the driver is not being cited. Lanes are back open. Killed in the line of duty, Andrew Camilleri. Anser hassan is joining us with more about the officers life. Reporter yeah, definitely, good morning. A lot of people are giving support, outpouring feeling the death of the officer. People have come by to pay their respects, dropping off flowers. Chp received a tremendous amount of support from the community. Chp chief, Ernie Sanchez said he was a pleasure to serve. The 33yearold lived in tracy with his wife, and children. Officer camilerri was killed when they were parked looking for impaired drivers. Thats when they were hit by a speeding, drunk driver. Chp says he was high on drugs as well. The investigation shut down the southbound lanes for more than ten hours. He was in the front passenger seat, his partner was behind the wheel and suffered only minor injuries. Chp chief says hes angry, not just for losing an officer, but a senseless tragedy, due to someones drunkdriving. He left behind three children, a wife, brothers and sisters. Children that were expecting their father to come home and help open christmas presents. Im not only disappointed, but also angered in that i had to notify a mother and three children that their father had seized at a local hospital after being impacted by a individual who chose to drive irresponsibly. Reporter the officer was pronounced dead at the scene. The man who hit the patrol has not been identified. Hes a 22yearold hayward man, in the hospital with injuries and expected to be charged with oo series of charges once he is released. We thank each and every one of you for thoughts and prayers. Officer camilleri was killed on Christmas Eve when their parked patrol car was hit by an alleged drunk driver speeding in hayward. I kept pulling. Just pulling on the door and, finally, the door opened. I remember him saying, theres a second officer and my heart sank. I lifted up the air bag and looked under the air bag. He was across the seat. My feeling is, he didnt know what hit him. He didnt know what hit him and i told my husband, hes gone. Reporter officer camilleri was pronounced dead at the hospital.
