Another big accident. Today in the bays bob redell is live there with whats going on. Bob, certainly a scary scene out there for a lot of those drivers. Reporter good morning to you, marcus and laura. The big rig itself was removed by some wrecking crews a wrecker crew within the past three to four minutes behind me. You can see the head lights, those are heading northbound on 101 in palo alto just before the University Avenue accident. The accident with the big rig took police in front of us here where that k rail is and we see those caltrans vehicles are. I did speak with chp within the past 15 minutes and they expect this to be reopened within the hour. Right now three of the four lanes in the northbound direction are shut down. Its just the number one lane thats open. The reason why its taking so long is that when this big rig crashed it spilled some fuel on the road and also knocked one of the k rails this is a Construction Zone, it pushed one of the k rails into the lanes of traffic. Al trans have had to deal with that. This accident happened around 1 40 this morning. Chp believes that the driver they say the driver was not under the influence but rather either fell asleep or became confused and drove into the Construction Zone itself, which is on the right side of the road and then wrecked his big rig into one of the k rails. So that was the situation here. That driver is okay, by the way. So as i mentioned the estimated time of reopening now is probably within the next 45 minutes. Based on the work were seeing out here it could be sooner because theyve already removed the big rig, its a matter of cleaning up whatever fuel was spilled on the road and getting that k rail back in place. Until then, again, three lanes of northbound 101 shut down here in palo alto just before the University Avenue exit. You just have one lane open. Here we are at 5 00 in the morning on a thursday, a lot of people trying to get to work.
