And tonight friends we talked to say theyre devastated. Friends say chu chu ma loved cats, video games, and music. Tonight they say they cant believe the 23yearold is gone. Ma graduated from the university of texas in austin and worked as a Software Engineering intern at yahoo before landing a job at google last year. Tonight a google spokesperson issued this statement, saying, chu chu was an Excellent Software engineer in our developer product team. We are devastated to learn of her passing and our deepest condolences are with her family and friends. Another coworker said chu chu constantly glowed with cheer and always made others snimile. On thursday chu chus body was discovered in the water off the bay trail in sunnyvale. Captain shawn ahearn with the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety says investigators are still awaiting autopsy results but are not ruling out homicide. Friends say they cant believe anyone would want to harm the High School Valedictorian who went out of her way to make others smile. Traffic is backed up on southbound 680 in san jose because of several small fires on the shoulder of that freeway. This is happening near the hospital teter road offram. Police had a suspect in handcuffs at the side of the road. Another unsettling night as several wildfires continue their destructive path. This fire burning in monrovia forced evacuations. Started about 8 00 tonight. More than 20 miles neet of los angeles. And weve learned about burned about five acres before firefighters started to get the upper hand, but its certainly led to even more tense moments in that area. Were going to have an update on the other fires burning in Southern California coming up in about four minutes from right now. Were learning more tonight about the driver of that charter bus that crashed on 101 last night in San Francisco. Tonight weve talked with the company that operates that bus. Nbc bay areas Sergio Quintana live at San FranciscoGeneral Hospital where most of the victims were taken. Sergio. Reporter and tonight there are still two patients that are here in fair condition. Of course all of them were headed to a Holiday Party last night, but they didnt make it because their bus crashed. In cell phone video that was shared with us by a viewer, you can see one passenger climbs out of the bus all dressed up for a Holiday Party. They were headed to the Crown Plaza Hotel in palo alto, but their bus careened out of control and onto its side on isnt 101. I talked by phone with avi joseph. The oakland bus company that operates the bus. He says the driver was not speeding. We have gps on our vehicles, so from what we can tell the bus was going at legal speeds. He did not want to speak on camera because the california Highway Patrol is still investigating incident but he says his driver tried his best to help after the crash. Our bus driver tried to make sure everyone was safe after the crash and waited until everyone was out. He is one of our more experienced drivers. The chp tells us that driver passed a field sobriety test and at this point hasnt been charged or cited for anything regarding the rollover. The bus was towed to this lot in San Francisco where investigators will examine it to see if any mechanical issues may have contributed to the crash. It happened on whats called hospital curve on u. S. 101. Its called that because its right next to zuckerberg San FranciscoGeneral Hospital. It was a spectacle for neighbors. It looks crazy. I saut side of the bus just fall over, and it was just like you could see all of it down there, cops here blocking traffic. It was just crazy. Reporter now, the chp does tell us that that bus driver is cooperating with their investigation. The manager at the company that runs that bus tells us that they are hoping for a speedy recovery for all the passengers who were injured. The city today announcing it will attend labor contract mediation with the unions chosen mediator. And thats going to be next week. The unions are saying theyre going to wait to see how the talks are going before sending tr thousan their thousands of workers back to work. He canland has been outmany essential services for five days now. The unions are holding out for a 4 raise in both years of a new contract. The city only has it in the first year. Six fires continue to burn tonight and thousands of firefighters on the job are facing very tough conditions. Red flag warning in effect until late tomorrow. Fierce santa ana winds are making it nearly impossible to contain the destruction. The largest fire, the thomas fire, is burning in ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Thousands of people forced to flee their homes were allowed back today to see what was left. For some, overwhelming relief. And for others devastation. Bay area firefighters released this video on social media tonight showing the intensity of the thomas fire. This was taken by an Alameda County firefighter from monday night. In all, almost 800 structures have been destroyed in the so cal fires. One death is being blamed on the fires as well. State leaders say the firefight in Southern California is far from over, and the governor says things will only get worse because of climate change.
