The rie fire is near magic mountain. They had to shut down i5 for a time yesterday. The creek fire is burning near sylmar. The creek fire is at 11,000 acres. The rye fire at 5,000 acres and the thomas fire burnt around 55,000 acres. We sent our own crews to ventura to talk about what has happened and the impact from the thomas fire. This morning, the thread is far from over. The windfueled thomas fire continues to spread in ventura county, leaving entire neighborhoods aglow. The people who live there on edge. Many are choosing not to evacuate. Instead, they are doing what they can to protect their homes. A bunch of structures that have been burnt. Ventura is totally burnt up. I hope we are not part of the statistics. Just fight it and if it gets ugly, i have more car in the driveway packed and ready to go. Other express lanes charge from several dollars to less than a dollar to use it during peak commute hours. The express lane was along highway 101 from whipple road to 380 near San Francisco airport. We are monitoring the fire burning as well as several others. A lot of bay area crews are there lending a hand in the fire fight. As the fires keep burning, two Television Shows are halt production. Producers are shutting down to avoid danger to the actors and crew members and will resume filming when its safe. The cbs show slots is suspended. The rams have canceled their practice. A lot of concerns of air quality. So sad. We just went through that with the Northern California fires. Unfortunately, i have been looking at the wind speed forecast. The winds will pick up again tomorrow evening. That is the main concern. A break in the wind speeds. I want to show you the wind speed forecast for Southern California. For tomorrow, starting out or rather for today, as we see the winds throughout the morning, starting out at about 25 Miles Per Hour, then we start to see those winds picking up once again for tonight into early tomorrow and look at how these sustained winds increase for the evening, up to about 45 to possibly 50 Miles Per Hour sustained with the strong santa ana winds. That may fan more flames as we bring it back home, we have freeze warnings in effect. Very cold and dry air. All the areas shaded in purple, under a freeze warning until 9 00 this morning. Here is a look at those temperatures and the reason why we have freeze warnings in effect. Santa rosa dropped to 30 degrees. Napa is close at 36 degrees. Some of the valleys we are seeing colder readings this morning. As you head out the door, its ten to around 13 degrees colder than yesterday morning. Especially in livermore, napa, santa rosa, much colder than yesterday. This afternoon, it warms up quickly and a few degrees warmer than yesterday. A wide range in temperatures from morning to afternoon. Make sure you are prepared for all of that, dressing in layers. Up to 62 degrees in oakland. 62 in palo alto. 63 in halfmoon bay. Heading out the door in san jose for the school day, packing the kids bags, a day for a very chilly morning and some nice, warm clothes. 40 degrees to start. Making it up to 61 degrees by 10 00. Going out to the hiking trails, a cold morning in the south bay. 37 degrees. But, it does quickly warm up. Lots of sunshine and cooling down, once again, fairly quickly at 4 00, 51 degrees. Getting over here in san mateo itself, southbound 101 at 92, past that interchange, we had that bus still there, but a crew is on scene. Its not a problem because traffic is flowing so light. A community of larger homes here in the Beverly Hills area. Right off the 405 freeway, just on the east side of it, to be exact. On the east side of the 405, this is helpful for viewers because as we know, the getty center is on the west side. So, if we are talking the east side, still, an incredibly populated area. Maybe when you get the opportunity, as you are rotating the chopper around, you can show the mapping mechanism to get a better sense of where this is. You said Queens Borough lane. Thats correct. They are pulling up the map. Great concerns in Southern California, but good clarity of where the location of this fire is. In fact, on the other side of the 405 freeway. There are some massive homes there, in the heart of Beverly Hills on the hill top. Right. Such concern. A lot of people know the area from tv. Exactly. In terms of the size of the fires, the creek fire, 11,000 acres, rye, 5,000 acres and the thomas is largest, having burned about 55,000 acres. Reporter good morning. I want to let you know that fire you were looking at, those live pictures is by the getty center on the 405, not far from l. A. X. The hillsides, there are severa multimillion dollar homes and the getty museum. Firefighters are throwing many assets there. They are spread across the region where we are at. Home after home, completely destroyed. We know at least 150 structures damaged or destroyed. There is no question that number will rise when crews are able to get up in the air this morning. A better perspective of how widespread that damage is. Hundreds of structures, hundreds of homes have been gone. During our trip here this morning, we can see the fire burning on both sides of the 101, which is where the fire is burning from the mountains all the way to the ocean, near and around Santa Barbara and outside los angeles. Fire crews are deploying all Assets Available to the wildfires. Four in this area and the new one you are seeing and talking about a short time ago around the getty center. Even at this hour, in cold temperatures, the weather here is precarious. It is fanning flames. Those winds are driving so many of these wildfires. Thats the big concern, not just here, but fire locations across this area. Gusts could reach 70 miles an hour tomorrow because of those santa ana winds. Changes coming to parking meters in San Francisco. The meters will be priced based on demand. Pete suratos is live with a closer look at the plan. Just given the green light by mta. This is based on demand as far as how the price increases as parking meters around San Francisco. The goal here is, if the parking meter is a bit more expensive, that may shorten the period of time that driver decides to park in a specific spot. As far as reaching that number of 8 an hour, it could be a while before we see that happen at all. Here are the details. Mta voted on this ewe unanimous mousily improving the dhangs. The parking meters will change more during peak times. It will be less when demand is low. That is applied to the more than 30,000 meter spaces around the city. Could see a low of 50 cents an hour and a high of 8 an hour. It will vary by time of day and block by block. It will be adjusted four times a year, depending on the use in the previous quarter. It will only be an increase of 25 krenlts a month. Not a drastic change, at least immediately. 7,000 parking meters are demand based in San Francisco. Its been that way since 2011. More in the busy area such as mission, downtown and embarcadero. We are in front of one here on third street. The average rate with the systems already in place is 2. 50. Live pictures of a new wildfire that erupted near the getty center on the other side of the 405 freeway this morning, about a mild afwra tway from the gett center. Northbound 405 shut down at getty center drive. You can imagine what traffic is like in Southern California. Look at this, the flames that continue. Firefighters have a tough fight. A lot of rough tur rain. There are gorgeous homes there. About 5400 acres, we understand, have been consumed in this fire alone. We have bay area firefighters there. They are concentrating a lot of efforts moving the firefighters because of the concern of it not far from the getty center museum. Well continue to monitor this. 5 46. New this morning, a dramatic increase in the demand for fentanyl. Its an opioid. They seized 35 times more the past year. In a statement, Officials Say an active crackdown have con transcribe yupted to the change. Earlier this year, our Investigative Unit took a look at the prevalence of the drug and surveyed nine bay area counties show that fentanylrelated deaths are on the rise. He was driving to work yesterday hen he saw this garage engulfed in flames. He pulled over. Neighbors said an elderly woman was not answering her door. He knocked down the door and the elderly woman responded from upstairs. You could hear ruckus coming from the background. It was definitely warm and heating up fast. Wow. He says the woman was trying to fight the fire and her hair was singed. After helping her to safety, firefighters said his heroic efforts saved her life.
