In the past hour we saw the defense and the prosecution as well as the family of the kate steinle entering the courtroom. We have new video of that taking place. And of course this case has been at the center of the immigration debate, specifically the topic of sanctuary cities. Now the case has laid out the case for juan Garcia Zarate. Claiming that that july 2015 shooting was accidental and the bullet which killed steinle ricochetted off of the pier at pier 14 before striking her back. Of course the prosecution has a different take on this, laying out the case that czar zarate intentionally carried out that shooting, pointing the gun at steinle and deliberately pulling the trigger. Of course weve learned throughout this that gun thaad reason stolen just days earlier. The defense says Garcia Zarate found stashed under a seat at the pier. They initially charged him with seconddegree murder, but the judge agreed to a request to request firstdegree murder as well. Our own nbc bay area sam brock is in the white house. And as we look at the radar been seeing some pockets of some heavy rain there. As we look just to the south, not a whole lot of action here. And this is what well see throughout the next couple of hours with a chance of rain farther to the north of the bay and then the south bay only getting a couple of sprinkles but mainly a cloudy day. It starts to clear out later on tonight. As we head into the day tomorrow, were going to clear and have some warmer temperatures moving in. And that will hold into thanksgiving. Investigators are looking for clues after a suspicious death in an east bay best western. We brought this live coverage on today in the bay. We spotted a lot of Police Officers at the motel on clayton boulevard. We know the person was found dead inside the room. We dont know anything about the person or whether authorities are treating this as a homicide. Well, police are investigating a deadly stabbing overnight. This happened a little before midnight at a home near San Jose Country Club on fairway drive. Deputies say this started as a dispute between roommates. They say the victim was a 21yearold. The stabbing suspect was on the scene and is now in custody. Charles manson, one of the most notorious murders in history who targeted hollywood is dead at the age of 83. He was a subject of repulsion, devotion and some fascination. Nbcs Gadi Schwartz has more on his infamous life. Reporter for decades, Charles Manson terrified the world. I had to go through many layers to get into the prison and what we wore and then to be in the presence of, i mean, just such a horrible person, i mean, these murders were brutal. And he did. He captivated the room. He had those piercing eyes, the swastika on his forehead. And the way he tried to control situations was still fascinating. It was fascinating to watch but it was very haunting to be in his presence at the same time. And to feel that eyetoeye contact. You came eyetoeye with him . He almost made a point to try to do that to people no place in particular, i felt he tried to make a point to do that with women, you know . But, no, ill never forget it. The president hinted ahead of time he would want thanks for help getting those players home. The players and ucla very carefully thanked him, but the president is angry one of the players fathers is not grateful enough. The president said i should have left them in jail. Reaction on social media was swift. Many saying no american president should be threatening americans with jail time in a foreign country because that president didnt feel one of the players parents was grateful enough. Now we should point out according to ucla officials, those players were never in jail in the first place. During a press conference last week, we learned the Police Actually came to the hotel and it was ucla that restricted the players in that hotel. Of course all of this comes as pressure grows on the white house. Special prosecutor mueller subpoenaed the Justice Department for documents about the firing of james comey. There are about 50 pound office food in here. Fresh produce, pasta, potatoes. I saw some kiwis over there that looked good. Eggs and what not. And focus can also choose between a turkey, a ham or a chicken this morning. And this is intended to help a lot offer our working families here in the bay area that are struggling with the rises rent and also with wages that seem to just be stagnant. Sacred heart expects these hearts will help about 4,000 families put thanksgiving dinner on the table. And this morning there were about 1,000 turkeys here on site, short of the goal of 7400 turkeys which is why around the other side of the building they are still accepting donations. Sacred Heart Community Service Needs 4,800 turkeys for this week and into christmas. If you can donate, drop off any time until 5 00 today. Any time between 8 00 and 5 00 tomorrow and wednesday. They recognize with the san jose floods that started this year, the north bay wildfires that we just put behind us, the hurricanes in puerto rico and houston, folks may have already given to other causes, but they remind folks that there is still a need here at home. We just want to remind, you know, folks that there are people here that are struggling. Again, because the rent is too high. Prices keep going up. Wages are staying the same. Theyre saying the same thing to folks who have something that they can donate. Good were getting a little bit of rain because were heading into several days of warm and dry weather. But i wanted to show you how much rain weve gotten and how that compares to normal as we take a live look outside over San Francisco from san bruno mountain. Santa rosa, about 5 inches of rain, which is above the percentage of normal that we get for this time of year. Looking at San Francisco, over 2 1 2 inches of rain. We are almost where we should be. This really helps, the rain that we had last week, boosts us back closer to normal percentages here. Looking even in san jose where we were down to about 1 4 a percentage of normal, were up to about 81 . So making some progress here with a little bit more rain that may be adding up, especially in the north bay. Guerneville had close to an inch of rain there. Cloverdale, 0. 2. We are going to have that chance with temperatures reaching the low 50s to upper 60s. For the south bay, its going to warm up to 71 degrees today and 70 degrees in morgan hill, 72 in gilroy. East bay seeing the high temperatures today in the upper 60s to low 70s. Really nice. Our temperatures will be warming up over the next several days. See that once again as you check out the bottom of the screen. Well be up to 65 today in the embarcadero. 62 degrees in sonoma. Were starting to see the rain closing in in sonoma as well. Weve seen it farther north for the last several hours. A lot of green on this radar but much of it not measuring up to much until you get just north of santa rosa and extending up to ukiah and clear like as well. Were tracking light rain farther to the south of the Golden Gate Bridge but this is about all well see as we go throughout the day. I dont think well measure any rain in san jose, but parts of the east bay will have a slight chance. The north bay, another 1 4 of an inch near ukiah. The napa valley is one of the spots well have to watch out for. Some of the spotty showers moving through. Otherwise mostly cloudy and temperatures reaching only to 60 degrees. Up to 65 degrees in San Francisco today and a lot of sunshine in this forecast for the rest of the week. Perfect for thanksgiving and the holiday. Heading into the weekend as well with another chance of rain in the forecast starting on friday. Cloudy on sunday and another system moving in on sunday. So after this move out, well have several days where it will feel very much like the beginning of fall more than the middle of fall here as we head into the holiday. That will be perfect, though, for the turkey trot and maybe doing some walking or running before we feast. Yeah. And then after. There are some crimes across the country every day, but when police seize them, stolen guns is what were talking about here. Theyre often hard to trace. Reporter no one has ever done this kind of tracing of missing pieces on this scale before. Now we have a better idea where stolen guns come from and where they end up. We obtained records for more than 1,000 Law Enforcement agencies in 36 different states, nearly 850,000 gun records in all. This data shows how often stolen guns travel around the country from region to region. Later showing up connected to other crimes. These guns move very quickly so it could be from a matter of days to sometimes 15, 20 years later, these guns are still being recovered in crimes. Guns are not perishable. They dont wear out and disappear. Some critics are calling for stricter laws to force gun owners to secure their firearms. While gun Rights Groups say the blame rests with those who steal guns, not those who lose them or have them stolen. Alabama Senate Election is just over three weeks away and this morning there are mixed messages about whether moore should serve if hes elected. Nbcs tracy potts has more on the latest reaction to Sexual Misconduct allegations against the republican nominee. Reporter roy moores first accuser, leigh corfman, tells the today show Savannah Guthrie that moore assaulted her in his home when she was just 14 years old. He removed my clothing. He left the room and came back in wearing his white underwear. And he touched me over my clothing, what was left of it. And he tried to get me to touch him. I felt guilty. You know, i felt like i was the one that was to blame. Reporter moore on twitter overnight says elitists in washington are trying to rig the system against him. Bring it, mitch. The reason neighbors believe it was going to happen sooner or later. One of the pilots seriously injured. That crash happened yesterday afternoon near reed hill view airport. Nbcs thom jensen reports on this. And say a crash like this was going to happen. Reporter their plane had just taken off from the airport when Officials Say the pilot reported an equipment malfunction and was headed back to land this this womans daughter watched the plane crash as she was talking to her mom on the phone. It went so fast. Reporter she is also a member of the Neighborhood Association board which met last week. Visions of Something Like this happening always a topic of discussion at their monthly meeting. Our concern, its number one its that. The airplanes reporter nbc bay area went through federal aircraft crash investigation databases and found there have been minor incidents at reed hill view, but the last time an aircraft went down in a neighborhood was nearly 30 years ago. In 1988, a small plane crashed into a store at the nearby east ridge mall, damaging five cars. This time it happened right in the middle of a residential neighborhood. As bizarre as this was, the outcome is about as good as we can expect. Reporter emergency officials here tonight thankful this ended without more people getting hurt or killed. If it had caught fire, youre trying to extricate people that are possibly on fire. Thank goodness it didnt. That is thom jensen reporting. Were stale waiting for an update on the training pilot who was injured. A brazen killing at a gas station as Police Searching for the shooter this morning. They are revealing surveillance cameras. It happened near the bay f. A. I. R. Mall. 392yearold victim posted about a cell phone and was shot and killed by an apparent robbery. Police say they have been been careful and people to be careful when buying or selling items posted on sites like craigs list. There are designated Safe Exchange zones in many cities now. Weve learned one of three people who died in a weekend fire in san jose was a student at san jose state. Thats according to a neighbor who lived in the same complex on south 9th street. That fire tore through the unit early saturday morning. They were all members of the seam family, include a 14yearold girl and a 48yearold woman. The father survived by hes now in critical condition. Developing this morning, one person is dead and the search for another continues in half moon bay. The coast guard found the boat going around in circles. The coast guard is actually searching for the boat operator. Sheriffs deputies hauled away the boat on sunday night. The coast guard says tom tran was at the controls when that boat left the harbor. Officials say they pulled the passengers lifeless body from the water. It doesnt appear suspicious at this time. Were trying to rule out everything we know. We know the individual who was recovered wasnt wearing a life jacket. Life jackets are critical to our search and rescue efforts. Somebody called after seeing the boat spinning less than a mile off the coast. Police are investigating what caused him and his passenger to go overboard. A Daly City Police officer is recovering after he crashed during a pursuit. After officers responded to suspects casing cars at the mall. The pair crashed and they ran through backyards before finally being arrested. A motorcycle officer was hurt when he crashed during the pursuit but his injuries are not considered serious. This type of crime is not unusual this time of year, even during the day. Its very, very brazen to do this. Obviously they were spotted and citizens of our Community Called in on this. But typically during thanksgiving week and christmas week as the holidays come upon us, we have reports of people casing vehicles, a lot of burglaries in progress throughout our areas where malls are. The arrests were caught on surveillance video. The suspects are not being identified but police say they are being charged with auto burglary and evading an officer. An entire safari park filled with hundreds of majestic animals in the bay up north is reopening today. Safari west closed during those wildfires, you may remember. The park owner actually lost his home but he saved all of those animals by staying behind and taking the flames headon. There is a video of the park they shared with us. This was all before the fires. Many of the workers there also lost their homes. Everyone is back for opening day, which started at 9 00 today. Thats nice to see. Real estate experts tying a surge in north bay housing prices to the wildfires. According to the monthly report, Sonoma Countys median price for a home rose nearly 9 from the same time a year ago. The median also marked a new high for the county, amidst the lowest number of sales in six years. Santa rosa had its lowest Sales Numbers in a decade. Room to move for cramped residents in North San Jose where 8,000 new Housing Units have been approved for construction. Those homes are going up at the olding anuws Mental Health facility. We got a clip of this building going up in 1959, recently retrieved from a time capsule. A new park with open space and athletic fields. Right next door, three new schools, the elementary school, middle school and high school. Today in the bay spoke to the schools head. There is a tremendous amount of Residential Development going on all over the santa clara area and were responding to that. We view open spaces as not nice to have, its an absolute necessity for everybody. For health and wellness and also connecting people from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Our goal is that we retain some of the amazing character of the parklike environment thats already here. And the city and the School District purchased the site in 2014 for 96 million. The city plans to finish demolishing its portion of that site by mid next year. We asked about a timeline, Officials Say to expect the new Regional Park within three to five years, the new elementary and middle schools could come in august of 2020. The new high school, 2021. Reporter its turning into a race against time for this argentine submarine and the 44 souls on board as a multinational effort to find the submarine grows. A spokesman for the Argentine Navy says theyve tripled the search effort both on the surface and underwater. This including ten airplanes and 11 ships from the Argentine Navy and countries in south america. These ships are following the submarines plan route as they continue to sweep the whole area. This is news that more aircraft and unmanned submersibles from the u. S. Are also joining the search effort. And the satellite calls that brought hope to the search effort have not been as useful so far in locating the vessel. A commander for the Argentine Navy saying they analyzed these weak signals but they could not determine a point on the map to help the search. Miam members of the Nebraska Public Service commission will decide to approve or deny an instate route for the pipeline. Robert barnes prepaid on expedia three nights for a hotel in china, but when he arrived at the hotel, the hotel said it didnt have his reservation. He called expedia and couldnt get anything straightened out. So he went ahead and paid for another room right there on the spot. It was similar but robert was disappointed. He said the bathroom wasnt clean and the heat didnt work. So expedia refunded robert for the prepaid reservation, but he thought it should also compensate him for the lackluster room he had to book on the spot. Expedia offered hmm a 100 coupon instead. So he asked us if there was anything we could do. We called expedia and they refunded robert the 300 he paid for the hotel stay. In a statement, they didnt explain what happened to roberts reservation but they said we apologize for the inconvenience Robert Barnes experienced and our team contacted him to successfully resolve this case. This is a look at the conditions. Tahoes ski resorts were open this week. The storms last week brought fresh powder snow to a lot of people. More could come this week. These two resorts are expected to open this wednesday and thursday. Is it raining up there right now . Its raining. Probably warm. A little warmer than it was last week but we still have a lot of fresh snow. As you very well know, its really great to see all this snow this early in the season. Its fantastic. Compared to what weve had years past. As we head out right now, we have still some cool temperatures, especial yo for the north bay. Santa rosa, 53 degrees now. 61 in livermore. Look at the south bay, morgan hill, san jose, 67 degrees. And its definitely warmer now than it was yesterday. Up to about 5 to 10 degrees in some spots. And a little bit cooler in the north bay thanks to the cloud cover. As we get a look at these high temperatures today, were heading into the low 70s and its going to be very mild, although we do have a lot of clouds. Only the sun peeking out every now and then. 66 degrees the high in antioch. In heyward, expect a high of 69 degrees there. 67 in palo alto. Half moon bay, a couple of sprinkles, 64 degrees. And the mill valley area up to 62 degrees today. Santa rosa only up to 60. So if youre heading out for that commute through the rest of the day in San Francisco, its going to be mostly cloudy and then well start to get a little bit more clearing later on this evening, but that will be right around sunset so we wont see a lot of sunshine today. Were seeing a lot of this rain streaming well to the north of us and this is where weve had actually an Atmospheric River just rolling by. And its been mostly over mendocino and lake counties and moving over towards the sierra. You can see what were talking about, it is raining around lake tahoe. And our temperatures are definitely warmer. Were starting to also see some more rain moving into the north bay within the last hour or so. As you get a closer look, its been scattered but we may see this measuring up to the possibility of possibly 1 4 of an inch of rain. Farther to the south, light sprinkles making its way into San Francisco as well as the east bay. Very hit or miss activity. This is what we can expect and the rain starts to move back to the north as the High Pressure to the south of us starts to fight back that wet weather and make it rise farther to the north. Only a couple of more hours of rain chances here and then skies clearing as we go into tonight and well have some warmer air. If youre getting ready to head out on your lunch break in san jose, we wont see a lot of sun today. Temperatures in the upper 60s and then eventually making it into the low 70s in a couple of spots. The trivalley for the rest of the day, its also going to be mostly cloudy there, but looks like for the most part the rain holds off with the exception of a couple of sprinkles here and there. As we go through the rest of this forecast, we are going to have some really nice weather for this week of thanksgiving and much warmer than where we should be for this time of year. In San Francisco, up to 70 degrees. Thanksgiving also looks nice, stays dry for all of the races and also for everyone heading out to a family members house. Dont have to worry about driving in any rain but heading back home if youll be leaving on friday, its going to be up to 67 degrees and some more showers moving in. Inland areas looking at also some very mild temperatures, up to 75 degrees on wednesday. A little bit cooler this weekend once we start to see some more rain moving in.
