Three people on the plane are alive but some victims suffered serious injuries. That crash happened about 3 00 near reidhillview airport. The plane had just taken off but couldnt make it back after having trouble. It ended up crashing a few blocks away. Federal investigators from the faa are on the scene here right now, theyre trying to look at the equipment. See exactly what happened. But preliminary indications are and the reports are that it sounds like there was some sort of equipment malfunction and then a failed attempt to scramble back to the airport before this crash. Witnesses say they saw the single engine cessna copping in low over the homes in the 2100 block of evelyn avenue just before it went down. Mario calderon was at work talking to her daughter on her cell phone who described the crash as it was happening. It went so fast and then crashed. Thats what she said. Reporter san jose fire first got the call at about 3 00. A spokesman tells nbc bay area it was a report of equipment failure. The pilot who had just taken off was circling back to try to land back at reed hill view airport about a half mile away. Thankful that it hit where it did instead of people on the side of the road. Reporter it crashed into a converted garage and the three people inside the home at the time of the crash were not injured. Tonight, they are in temporary red cross housing. The owner of the plane has also been on the scene saying one of his airplanes has never crashed before. I actually just saw it driven off the harbor by San Mateo County scherffs deputies. It took authorities quite some time to get control of that spinning boat. The county sheriffs department, the coast guard and local harbor master spent time inspecting that boat once they got it ashore. Right now its not clear how it started spinning. According to the harbor master, two people were board that boat. Theyve recovered one body from the water. That person pronounced dead on the scene. According to the scherffs department and the harbor master office, that person didnt have any obvious wounds or injuries. It doesnt appear suspicious at this time. That is a worry but you know, if i have to change around my whole life to make sure she has a place to stay i will. Reporter to get to her doctors appointment, its about an hours commute. Two bus lines. I have an appointment today at 3 45 sfwhr and a rain. Ive been lucky that my baby works with me and doesnt give me a lot of pain. Reporter her fiance now live at a Drug Rehab Center and she lives as the a rehab center where shes been gathering baby supplies for month. She also attends free Parenting Classes a couple times a week. They look like they like it. Reporter have you decided on a name. Yeah, her name is faith. Believing that thing will get better even though it doesnt seem that way. Reporter the number of pregnant homeless women is difficult to crack. But the crisis is clear in San Francisco. Moms with children even newborns begging on the street. One nonprofit tells us its seen at least 224 homeless pregnant women this year alone. And the number of homeless women giving birth has spiked at least 76 since 2010. There are women who have to spend their pregnancies on the streets. Dana is a registered nurse with the department and is on the road daily providing medical care to the homeless, including pregnant women and new mops. Reporter can homeless parents really provide for their kids . These women have everything that a baby needs. But not having sheeter makes those things really difficult to provide. Reporter children in imminent danger can be taken away from their parents those who lead Child Protective Services tell us simply being homeless isnt reason enough because a lack of permanent housing doesnt qualify as abuse or neglect. While sfaens San Francisco shelters boast 137 beds each night for families, most pregnant women arent given priority till theyre at least 7 months along. Theres nowhere affordable for them to live when they need it most. Reporter San Francisco mayor ed lee. Is the city doing enough to help homeless adults and Homeless Children . I believe we are. Reporter he unveiled a plan to eliminate homeless camps over the next two years and get all families into permanent housing within four years. Were going to literally end family hopelessness the way we know it. Reporter it us a central database to help match the children including children with housing and medical care they need. I believe the child is not in a safe environment on the streets. Reporter especially newborns. Patricias baby was delivered nine days late but she believes her newfound faith arrived right on schedule. Do you ever worry that faith could be taken away . That would be the fight of their life.
