Here is what the situation is right now. 26 people dead after the gunman stormed the First Baptist church. It happened in Sutherland Springs. Population less than 400 people. I cried so much, i dont have any tears left. Reporter there is an emptiness in the small texas town, a gnawing pain after 26 were killed, ten or more wounded. The gunman burst through the doors and opened fire. Dressed in all black and wearing a ballistic vest. Reporter spraying the congregation before leaving. Met with a neighbor outside. After a brief chase, kelley crashed. He was found dead inside. Records show he received a dishonorable discharge from the air force and jail time after he was convicted of assaulting their wife and child. Investigators searched overnight for evidence and answers, this community searched for strength. He made us closer by doing this. We are more unified now. It gives us reason to come together. Developing news out of washington this morning where more charges could be coming in the russia investigation. Multiple sources say federal investigators have enough evidence to bring charges against Michael Flynn and his son. Interviews with witnesses are set this week to get more information about flynns lobbying work. The special counsel wants to know if flynn or his son laundered money or lied to federal agents about overseas contacts. Under the microskcope, money tht Russian Television paid flynn in 2015 following an event where he sat next to vladimir putin. Lawmakers also want answers. We are pursuing leads wherever they lead and certainly he is one of the people that we need to talk to. We want to be engaged in all areas of that and ask them questions. New, San Francisco leaders are trying to track down on dangerous drivers. New numbers show the city is issuing fewer traffic tickets. Good morning, pete. Reporter good morning to you marcus and laura. Traffic safety push by the city of San Francisco is part of a campaign from 2014. The goal is to eliminate all traffic deaths to bring it down to zee roy by 2024. In a report by the San Francisco examiner, we are learning police are issuing fewer tickets since that campaign kicked off a few years ago. Here are the numbers you are looking at. The main number you want to look at on the screen is the annual traffic dropped to 30,000 compared to the same time in 2015 when the number of issued tickets was above 120,000. Despite the drop, pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities are down compared to last year with 15 dead so far this year. There was no drop on the focus on five categories. Those numbers are staying steady. They focus on serious offenses such as speeding, running red lights and things of that nature. They say its unclear why overall tickets are dropping. Anytime you hear more tickets people perk up. Details on a late night fire at an east bay apartment complex. It started around 10 30, two blocks from the san leandro bart station. Everyone in the sixunit complex got out okay and most was limited to one unit. Neighbors say they woke up to flames and smoke pouring through the doors. Their door and our door are across from each other. We breathed deep and ran down the stairs and came out here. Firefighters say two family cats and a pet snake did not survive. Theres no word on the cause. Firefighters believe it may have started in a kitchen. Happening today, teams from the Assessor Office will inspect fire damaged properties. The appraisals will process fire damage reports and lead to adjusted property tax bills. Santa rosa Mobile Home Park is shutting down. There is asbestos concerns following the wildfires. We took you to the journeys end Mobile Home Park live on today in the bay. Sadly, the fire went ripping through that area last month. Its north of Kaiser Permanente medical center. The fire destroyed 140 of the 160 homes. The area is off limits until at least wednesday pending lab test results. The north bays smart Train Service may eventually serve a Wider Network stretching to Solano County according to a recently released report. Tragedy in a texas town after a gunman opens fire inside a Church Killing 26 people. Many were young children. It happened in Sutherland Springs outside of san antonio. Many questions remain as investigators search for a motive in the rampage. Craig melvin is live at the scene with information that we are learning about the victims and the gunman. Good morning. Reporter good morning to you. I have spoke with a long time sheriff in Wilson County a short time ago about that question, why . What would make someone do what this shooter did yesterday morning . The sheriff telling me a short time ago, right now, they dont have concrete answers but there appears to be a relationship between the shooter and First Baptist church here. The inlaws, the exes inlaws, the shooters wife worship here. They came in the aftermath of the shooting to check on friends and family. They continue to look at the shooters social media page. They are poring over cell phone records as well, as has been well reported. He walked in shortly after Service Started yesterday. The 26yearold opened fire outside the church, then made his way inside the church. The sheriff telling me a short time ago, at this point, it looks like he only stopped shooting because he ran out of ammunition. At that point, he leaves the church. Theres a good samaritan, a neighbor, they give chase in a vehicle. He crashes the vehicle. The sheriff telling me he was wounded. The gunman was wounded by one of the neighbors who opened fire on him. The wounded gunman appears to have taken his own life inside the truck. So, we continue to learn more about the shooter, but we are learning a heck of a lot more about the victims, 26 in all. The majority of them, we are told, the majority, children. Eight. Eight of the deceased are from the same family. To give you an idea of how tiny this town is, we are talking 500 people, literally everyone who lives in this town knows someone who worshipped at that church. There are two churches in the town, a post office. This is a very tight knit community. Theres a candlelight vigil here last night. They were standing, praying, holding hands, trying to make sense of the most recent mass shooting here. Its just tragic. Tragic to see. This little small town that no one knew about, really, craig. San franciscos third Baptist Church installed security gates, cameras and hired guards. Amos brown says hes not taking chances. What this gentleman did at church, it was encouraged to do it. The search is on for someone who stole guns, am vision and fbi jacket from a sheriffs deputy car. Its not the first time an officers vehicle was burglar e burglarized. Kris sanchez is live with what is being done to prevent it in the future. Reporter the pressure is on to find the highpowered weapons before the car burglary turns into a much more serious crime. We have seen stolen weapons used in other homicides and other kinds of crimes as well. Now, the guns, the bullets, 800 of them, bullet proof vest and fbi jacket were all taken from the San Mateo County sheriffs deputys unmarked car on friday night. At the time, it was parked in the tenderloin district in San Francisco. We are asking why it was in San Francisco and we have been able to confirm the sergeant is assigned to a special fbi task force. What we dont know at this point is whether or not thats the reason that officer was in the city. A San Mateo County sheriffs spokesperson says the weapons were locked in the trunk of the unmarked car. The thief or thieves smashed a window and got in. First is going to be a shotgun, a weather bay. 12gauge. A brown stock. The second firearm is a colt ar4 black in color. There were also 40 mags containing 20 rounds each that were stolen. Reporter now the nbc bay area Investigative Unit examined Bay Area PoliceAgency Records for stolen guns as part of a larger investigation. What we found is the Sheriffs Department reported 58 guns lost or stolen over a fiveyear period ending in 2015. A new law took effect because of that reporting requiring Law Enforcement officers to secure their weapons in a locked trunk or safe box in their vehicles when they are unattended. The San Mateo County sheriff or San FranciscoPolice Department that is investigating is detailing how those weapons were secured in the trunk of the car, whether they were just locked in the trunk or a safe box and whether or not that adheres to the spirit of the law. The defense begins to lay out the case in her murder. Last week, the prosecution wrapped up the case shows the defendant intended to shoot and kill steinle on pier 14 in San Francisco back in 2015. The prosecution tried to show the jury the gun, which was stolen could have fit in the clothes Garcia Zarate was wearing that day. Defense claims the shooting was an accident. Happening today, we are expecting to learn more information about an east bay teacher arrested on suspicion of improper contact with a minor. He had been speeching science at the school behind me. Walnut Creek Intermediate School and before that, a substitute in the town of martinez, where he lived. A letter sent out by both School Districts sent to parents over the weekend, the charges do not involve current or former students. The Unified School District says they arrested bartel on charges of child pornography and other related charges. He was a substitute teacher for martinez unified in 20132014 and Science Teacher here for three years. Bartel has been removed from class and is on administrative leave. Bob redell, today in the bay. It is the worst mass shooting, ever, at an American House of worship and the worst in texas history. We just learned in 20 minutes, 1214 dead children were found inside. Its just tragic. Investigators say a former u. S. Airman entered a church yesterday morning and opened fire. An Armed Civilian shot the suspect. The gunman later flipped his car during a chase. New information about a fire at an east bay apartment complex. It started around 10 30 last night near the san leandro bart station. Everyone in the sixunit complex was able to get out.
