Joins us now and what have your sources been able to tell. You my sources in federal Homeland Security agencies tell us so far they believe its the act of a lone person, a lone wolf and there is no credible threat in the bay area or anywhere else in the country for that matter. The 29yearold suspect came to the United States in 2010 from uzbekistan. He did have a green card and had been living in the tampa, florida, area, traveled to ohio and pennsylvania. As janell just reported he had been living in new jersey. He arnlts rented that pickup truck in new jersey and was carrying a bb gun and paint gun when he jumped out of the truck and was running around. You see them there. The fbi here in San Francisco released a statement just a few minutes ago saying, quote, while there is no specific or credible threat to the bay area, all threats are taken seriously and we are monitoring the situation in new york. As always we aurj the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to Law Enforcement. My sources tell me as for that note claiming that he was doing it for isis, theyre trying to determine whether there is any evidence of that. Go through his computers and apartment and see if he was inspired by ice or whether somebody in isis told him to do what he did. Jessica wab raj. Stephen, thank you. What happens here locally especially on halloween night. We called up the bay area agencies to ask if they are stepping up patrols. Anser hassan with more. Busy night here and of course busy in new york city. Its just after 9 00 there and there are still multiple raids and investigators canvassing manhattan. Our coverage continuing throughout the newscasts. Well go live to new york city for jupt at 6 30. We follow the developing news out of San Francisco. A runaway dump truck barrelled into car after car before finally crashing into a tree. Nbc bay area sam brock has been following the story. Sam joins us live and do we have any idea what happened to that dump truck . Reporter yeah, we do, jessica. You say a runaway dump truck. It turns out it was broken. The emergency brake wasnt functioning properly. And it could have been so much worse jessica. Because we are standing right now on this steep grade in all of San Francisco. You are talking about a truck at least 26,000 pounds. Nafs the height of its capacity, barrelling down the street striking cars along the way. You see one of them a mercedes on that tow bed there about to be taken away. Several other cars here as well. A total of six on this side. You move through the intersection and this is where it started to get hairy. Because you had an uber driver in a toyota coming through this intersection as the truck barreled down the driver in the uber stopped what he was doing and tried to reverse but still got struck by the dump truck. The drug dragged it through the intersection and ended up over here. The uber truck collided with another driver that ended up pinned against in tree over here. This is a japanese consulate. You see theyre trying to clean up the debris. All of it ended here thats where the truck was. Another driver behind that. Six on that side, three on this side. Here is an uber passenger who was in that car at the time. It just started hitting all the cars. Slammed into us. Spun us around, hit the girl. She wasnt parked, driving in the blue. She was behind us and slammed her into the wall and into the tree and then it just stopped. And there was no one in it. It was with terrifying. I saw another helicopter and another helicopter. I assumed they were keeping an eye out for thing. As i get up over the hill i hear of a truck running down people in broadway. I was thinking the same thing that happened in new york that was coordinated but as i got down here i found out it was a truck that lost the emergency brake. Right just to reemphasize that there was nothing citizen sister here. As we mentioned police determined it was a broken emergency brake that led to this entire sequence of events and the trail of destruction down to visidero. The commercial Inspection Team is out here and looking at that truck. The truck has been cleared. But they told me a couple of things they are concentrating on one of the emergency brakes. I just mentioned that. Two the ca number the number the company has to register with the state. Its possible that its inaccurate and you just wonder, raj and jess, how many trucks there are out in the city of San Francisco that potentially could have violations like these. I have a feeling youll be seeing future reports on that from us. Reporting live from San Francisco this evening. Sam brock nbc bay area news. Thank you sam. Damage to its power poles well untangling a web. Pg e today filing ten new reports about damage to power poles and electrical lines in the north bay fire zone. The filings with the Public Utilities commission could become part of cal fires investigation into whether sparks from the downed lines started any of the fires. With he breck the news on the digital platforms today. Pg e determined eight trees fell during heavy winds fueling the fires. Those trees took down power lines. We first reported pg e has determined it had power lines downed at the origin of at least two of the fires. But here is the key. Investigators have not determined if the lines fell before or after the fire started. Our Investigative Reporter jaxon van derg enhag has been digging through the reports. This is a complex story as you know whats the primary take away. Reporter it looks like pg e is basically saying the winds were so powerful that it was knocking down very large trees, up to 100 feet tall. And the lines were well clear of the trees. There was some thought that they just simply brushed up against the vegetation. But these trees are gigantic and blowing down in winds up to 67mileperhour. There is going to be fine detailing going through this. Pg e making its move today. What from cal fire and any response and what would they do as early as tomorrow. Reporter we know they have seized equipment that pg e says is undamaged. And now and theyve already pinpointed some areas where it looks like customers grafted their own power lines onto pg e. It looks like they were cast ago wide net trying to find out which individual incident may have pinpointed in these particular fires. Okay this is going back and forth. Thank you, jaxon. Could pg e predicted any of this . Coming up in 15 minutes jaxon will uncover new information about pg e ponying role in the fires. We have new numbers showing the extent of the damage done the by the fires. Our Investigative Unit looked closely at the more than 8,000 building destroyed. Back to north bay fire coverage. Is pg e to blame for those fires . This is a deep probe into a 34 billion company. And we have new revelations in the investigation. Investigative reporter Jaxon Van Derbeken shows us a warning four years ago about an ant teek eighted part of pg e system is vulnerable to sparking wildfires. Reporter this is where their own records show two power poles broke north of glen ellen. Its where cal fire point points the origin of the deadly nuns fire. The state senator jerry hill one of pg e strongest critics fears that is not a coincidence. We have an old system that is prone to more problems. And because of that we are we are in a vulnerable position. And thats what can lead to fires. Hill points to the findings of the 2013 risk analysis. It found that 60 of paige j es more than 100,000 miles of power lines are prone to breaking. They are either too thin or vulnerable to corrosion. But at the top of the list of safety issues for the consultant was pg es 87,000 miles of 12470 vote power lines. The consultants say these lines lack modern inground grounding technology that keeps them from shutting off power. Without it they have to rely on crews to aye problems at the scene and manually shut off power, the consultants say. But getting there takes time. Meanwhile, live wires are exposed. And lives are at risk. That delay stood at the top of the consultant list of significant safety issues facing pg e. Playing a role in a number of fatalities and injury. Thats really troubling. Senator hill wonders if that threat became real in the north bay fires. When a hot wire or a wire is broken or is you know falls to the ground and could take 45 minutes to turn off its just sitting there starting one fire after another as it moves around. Pg e turned down our request four interview but told us they had made significant progress since the 2013 risk report. Spending 15 million inup grades including three new control centers. Still the utilitys own recent stats show that one out of 412,000 volt line failures cant be shut down remotely. Even with the system upgrades. Dan, a retired 42year pg e engineer says Technology Advances acai the company often has no choice but to send crews out to diagnose problems. Just to make sure people are not needlessly put in the dark by remote control. Protection isnt science its art. You are trying to balance between giving the people power and making the system safe. Right. And there isnt a clear solution. Jaxon van derbeken, nbc bay area news irlgts. All right thank you jaxon.
