We couldnt afford to lose another pitcher block. So, we hung in there. The fans hung in there. We played the game. Reporter die hard fans were able to stick it out. They might be sleeping in this morning. Many fans had to leave because they took barth or caltrain and they couldnt miss the last train. Mlb rules say they can play in light to moderate rain, but during heavy rain or if theres standing water on the field, they have to postpone or cancel the game, especially if theres lightning or thunder. A shelter in place order has been lifted after crews cleared live power lines that went down last night. This happens near the elementary school. This morning, one san jose family has cleaning up to do after the storms. Lightning struck a palm tree and started a fire. It actually sounded like a loud explosion. I could almost feel the heat. We also have clouds and ground lightning, which is the most dangerous type of lightning there is because it affects us as we are going to see the possibility of more of this as we go into tomorrow. You see all of those lightning strikes, estimates there were over 1,000 during the hike of the storms moving through yesterday afternoon, thanks to monsoonal moisture. Around the home, we say stay away. No showers or anything like that while it is lightning. Also get out of the pool and wait 30 minutes until the last thunder is heard. The high temperatures today, not as hot as yesterday and we wont have as much energy to work with. Once again, expecting a little more of a break in the showers and thunderstorms before we see them firing up again tomorrow morning. Looking at mid to upper 80s today, 90 in antioch. Hayward up to 81 degrees. 69 in halfmoon bay and 79 in san mateo navato, today, 86 degrees. This is the way it plays out. Mostly clear skies today. Still humid. Because it is going to be very muggy, we may see a couple isolated storms popping up. For the most part, not as active as yesterday. As the front starts to dip in, there will be a chance of showers and storms moving in by this time tomorrow morning. So, tomorrow mornings commute may be wet and some of our models show the potential of getting a quarter inch of rain and some showers. This time of year is pretty much unheard of. We are going to be measuring rain in spots tomorrow. They are measuring a lot of rain in the southeast. Here is a look at now what is tropical depression irma that is spread out across the southeast and producing rain and wind. Well continue to monitor that and also the forecast of hurricane jose with wind speeds of 75 miles an hour, barely holding on to the hurricane status, but may strengthen once again and the east coast may be watching this over several days. We are watching out for isolated storms tomorrow morning and drier and cooler temperatures moving in for thursday. Inland areas will have the best day this week. The coolest day on thursday as well. Mike said the freeways are moving well. They are having a good morning as well. The freeways not showing a lot of slowing, watching the minor crash off 680 off highway 84. Transit agencies reporting no delays. A nice, easy option for you on the morning commute. As you get home from the bay bridge, no delays for the roadways. Oakland to San Francisco, an easy choice. Take the shorter route across the bay bridge toward the city by the bay. We are looking at possibility of this. The san mateo bridge is a good option for you. A longer, slower drive. The navigation apps are diverting drivers off the freeway into fremont neighborhoods making it difficult for homeowners to get out of their driveway. Bob redell has ways the city is trying to fix the problem. Good morning, bob. Reporter good morning. Not just a problem in fremont, but cities like lafayette, cupertino and santa cruz. The city of fremont has been trying to discourage commuters from shortcutting on to their streets. For example, putting up the lyft signs to ignore the navigation app. Its pushing much of the traffic in other neighborhoods. We are hostages in our homes. Reporter residents blame apps like wave and google maps for clogging their streets between 3 00 and 7 00 p. M. Case and point, the city shot this footage a week ago. Take a look at the tv screen. A long line of cars making their way through a small residential street, never meant for regional traffic flows. The city estimates the detour around the traffic on 680 only saves commuters four to five minutes, while trapping people in homes for hours. Theres new measures to keep drivers from leaving the freeway in the first place. Traffic engineers delayed the timing. This is the first major intersection for commuters getting off 680. Its where we are right now. The city enacted restrictions during the hours in washington where traffic sometimes comes to a standstill. Back up past here and people couldnt get out of the drive way. Hard to leave the house because traffic gets so bad. The longterm solution for us is more housing where the jobs are. Cupertino, sunny vevail, they h to provide the housing so employees no longer have to travel an hour to hour and a half to their homes in central valley. Reporter the city of fremont alerted the wave app. The hope is it will pick up on the changes and keep drivers on 680 and off residential streets here in fremont. We reached out to wave and google maps and are waiting to hear from them. The city of fremont is not alone, they have heard from la fayette, cupertino and santa cruz. Teams used grenades to enter a kfc restaurant on south main street around 2 00 this morning. That ended in a stand off that started eight hours earlier when police got calls about a possible gunshot in the restaurant bathroom. Officers cleared the scene. Back ups were called in. They are not saying if there was an actual weapon involved. No one was injured. The rules for using pepper stray in berkeley consider changing the current policy. The citys police chief asked counselors to overturn a 20year ban to allow officers to use pepper spray during protests. Happening today, San Francisco police set to talk to people about the use of stun guns. They are drafting a policy about the use. Looking at numbers by the San Francisco transportation authority, there are 172,000 offtreat Parking Spaces in 2014. There are 280,000 onstreet Parking Spaces. They are hosting a forum at city hall. They want feedback from groups and the body cam policy. We look at the body camera programs nationwide. The leadership conference, up turn found oakland, San Francisco and san jose should update their cameras. The report says every police depment has room to improve in one of several areas surveyed. 5 44. Happening today, state and local leaders will take a step to defend daca leaders. They will call on the legislation to defend daca students. The board of supervisors will approve money to help the daca recipients. Well have a crew there for that. Theres also a vote in alameda county. Governor brown and leaders vo voted to amend the sanctuary city bill. It will make california the first state to ban authorities from forcing immigration laws or asking them about their status. The measure expands a list of crimes allowing officers to hand undocumented criminals to the feds. They call it a big step forward. Protects working families, immigrants, mothers separated from their children around children from their mothers. They are at odds with the white house. They think it may jeopardize federal funding.
