Right now shes going to be staying with her son and his the way a while in San Francisco. Lets check with meteorologist kari hall tracking the storm. How much longer do folks have to get out, kari . They dont have a lot of time. We expect the outer rain bands to make it into florida in the next couple of hours. We see how close it is now, moving closer to the the florida keys. The center of the storm still a while away, with wind speeds of 150 miles an hour. If this becomes even a little bit stronger, it will go back to a category 5, but right now Holding Steady as a category 4. As we look at this storm over the next couple of days, if it moves closer to cuba that, may affect the intensity of this storm, but it still has some very warm water to draw its energy from. Were looking at sea surface temperatures in that region up to 87 degrees which gives more energy to the whole hurricane overall. Now, over the next several days, it will be expecting to make landfall in southern florida and continuing on as a category 2 or a 3 before it weakens over parts of the south. So looking at the main timeline here, wind speeds are picking up as we go into tonight. Landfall as early as sunday with wind speeds up to about 150 miles an hour. There could be a high storm surge and up to 20 inches of rain, and hurricane wind speeds at about 75 miles out from the eye of that storm. So a lot to consider here as this hurricane is bigger than the state of florida as it continues to move up the coast. Re on that coming up a little ornia ter. Just amazing. A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of seven First Responders who claim they were injured in the release of those toxic chemicals. For several days, thousands of People Living near the plant were told to stay away. The lawsuit claims First Responders were outside the evacuation zone but yet still got sick. Governor jerry brown declared a state of emergency in mariposa counties. One of those fires spans madera and mariposa counties and is blocking entrance to yosemite park. It is now about 40 contained. Then it is expected to continue right up the middle of florida, and this, keep in mind, is a very large storm, so it is wider than the state of florida, and even as it continues well inland throughout the southeast, it may still be a Tropical Storm into the start of next week. Then were also tracking two other hurricanes. Jose is almost as strong as irma with wind speeds of 150 miles an hour and it is a category 4 hurricane. It is expected to affect some of the same islands that were just basically demolished by irma, and over st. Martin and antigua, but this would be kufcurving ofo the north and not affecting the mainland. And hurricane katia over mexico the next couple days, theyre still dealing with some earthquake aftershocks in the Southern Coast of mexico. At zoo miami, thousands of animals are in the eye of the storm. Most zoos dont go through hurricanes like we have. This zoo has been through hurricane andrew, hurricane wilma, hurricane katrina. These animals flocked to the restroom to escape hurricane andrew which blew through in 92. Announcer people arent the only homeless victims of the reporter and not the only ones without fresh water. We had things totally destroyed around here, yet the animals pretty much survived unscathed. Reporter today these pink flamingos are back in the bulls eye, but this time theyll ride out irma in a new concrete closure. Ron mcgill is helping to relocate many of the animals. We first met ron back after andrew leveled the zoo. Theyre still very nvervous from the storm. Reporter and thats tochi. I took a photo immediately following hurricane andrew with tochi near a trailer that had fallen from the sky right next to him. Yet tochi didnt have a scratch on him. Reporter this time theyre catching these birds, clipping their wings and bringing them inside. While the bigger animals like these lions will stay where they normally sleep. Its something they feel secure in. These houses are made out of poured concrete, welded metal. Everything around them could be destroyed. These will remain intact. Reporter still hes worried what happens to these animals if the zoo take a direct hit. Animals do have an instinct of how to survive and hunker down in these storms. Reporter you see these white birds . Theyre ibis. Local legend has it that the ibis is the last to leave when there is an approaching hurricane and the first to come back when a hurricane passes. Sfoo so the fact theyre still here is maybe an indication to residents theres still time to get out. But just barely, if theyre the last ones there. I wonder what they did with that. Well be back. The sun sent charged particles in the atmosphere and those particles became lights that you now see. I would love to see that. That is really amazing. If you go far enough north, you can see them, but i heard even far northern california, maybe, because that sun is so strong. All you need are the clear skies and that would be really cool to see. For us weve had a lot of clouds and we still see them linger in San Francisco. Temperatures today up to 67 and it will be warming up over the next few days.
