Im worried about flooding because i live in the canal, and i am in the flood zone. I moved as many things as i could up to the second floor, and ill see when i return home just what i have to deal with. Im most worried about roof damage, too. Because once the water gets inside the house, its a mess. Son been through this before wd i know. I bet. Well, that woman says she lived through hurricane andrew in 1992. Right now shes going to be staying with her son and his the way a while in San Francisco. Lets check with meteorologist kari hall tracking the storm. How much longer do folks have to get out, kari . They dont have a lot of time. We expect the outer rain bands to make it into florida in the next couple of hours. We see how close it is now, moving closer to the the florida keys. The center of the storm still a while away, with wind speeds of 150 miles an hour. If this becomes even a little bit stronger, it will go back to a category 5, but right now Holding Steady as a category 4. As we look at this storm over the next couple of days, if it moves closer to cuba that, may affect the intensity of this storm, but it still has some very warm water to draw its energy from. Were looking at sea surface temperatures in that region up to 87 degrees which gives more energy to the whole hurricane overall. Now, over the next several days, it will be expecting to make landfall in southern florida and continuing on as a category 2 or a 3 before it weakens over parts of the south. So looking at the main timeline here, wind speeds are picking up as we go into tonight. Landfall as early as sunday with wind speeds up to about 150 miles an hour. There could be a high storm surge and up to 20 inches of rain, and hurricane wind speeds at about 75 miles out from the eye of that storm. So a lot to consider here as this hurricane is bigger than the state of florida as it continues to move up the coast. Re on that coming up a little ornia ter. Just amazing. These are the guardian angels, the ones that actually swoop in off the choppers and pull people out to safety. A very Important Role for that gentleman and all the men and women who are going to be on these teams. A pu ill pull away from this plane. You see the the choppers over there. Those are some of the choppers the National Guardsmen will be in. Theyll be loaded onto a chopper called the c17. That coming up here in about another hour or so. The 100member highly trained search and rescue will be needed, chopping into flooded places like those rescue choppers can do, pulling people out to safety like this team has done in hurricane harvey. Once again on the ground, this time in florida, theyre ready to return to rescue mode. Were going to stand by, assess the situation, and from there figure out where our operations will be. Credit card numbers of about 209,000 American Consumers were also accessed. Equifax has established a website where you can check to see if your personal information may have been affected. As we look at whats going on around the bay area this weekend, for tomorrow well see a high for those inland areas up to 88 degrees. 82 degrees by the bay and the coast will be in the upper 60s. On sunday thats when those temperatures really start to heat up, and we will have those valleys reaching into the mid90s, the bay at 85 degrees and mostly sunny also at the coast. That will be the best day to head to the beach. Also a good day tomorrow to head to Jack London Square for the jack of all trades market. It will get into the upper 60s. A good event to check out outside. There will also be baconfest happening on saturday. This is just a little bit past tracy at the odell family farm. It starts out in the morning at 67 degrees. Hurricane warnings and storm advisories were issued for those in the path of the storm. Hurricane irma could become one of the biggest disasters florida has seen in 25 years. Heres Nbcs Lester Holt reporting from miami. This morning irma is on a collision course with the united states. The powerful hurricane taking aim at south florida after leaving behind a path of destruction overnight. Massive storm surges slamming turks and caicos. 175mileperhour winds tearing through the island chain. In st. Martin, entire homes have been leveled in irmas wake, the storm tossing boats up on the shore and overturning massive shipping karcontainers. In puerto rico, trees have been uprooted. Street lights, signs and electrical poles torn down. In the oval office on thursday, President Trump received updates of irmas path. Miami beach and other parts of the state bracing for the worst. We want safe residents. They should leave miami beach if they have not left already. More than 650,000 residents in miamidade have been ordered to evacuate. This morning all Major Airlines are suspending service to south florida. At Miami International airport, thousands have been scrambling to get out. Were actually thinking of getting in a car and heading out, but i dont think it might be a good idea. Lack of fuel is putting pressure on gas stations to stay open as supplies run short. A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of seven First Responders who claim they were injured in the release of those toxic chemicals. For several days, thousands of People Living near the plant were told to stay away. The lawsuit claims First Responders were outside the evacuation zone but yet still got sick. Doubled over and vomiting to the other end of it, chemical bronchitis. There was no warning given by the manufacturer that this could happen to the First Responders. During the crisis, plant officials stated that outside the evacuation zone, the hazards from the smoke were like breathing smoke from a campfire. A followup in the south bay on a different kind of fire, the brush fire that burned 100 acres. Four teenagers are under arrest for allegedly starting that gilroy fire. Investigators say the teens were playing with fireworks on sunday when those sparks spread to dry brush near eagle ridge golf course. No homes or buildings were damaged, but it did take crews days to finally contain that fire. Now to the latest developments on the current wildfires burning across california. Governor jerry brown declared a state of emergency in mariposa counties. One of those fires spans madera and mariposa counties and is blocking entrance to yosemite park. It is now about 40 contained. Back to the coverage of that powerful 8. 1 earthquake in mexico, the most powerful earthquake in a century. That was off the countrys coast overnight. By sunday morning well see that moving inland as a category 4, so we already have the hurricane warnings in effect for those areas. Then it is expected to continue right up the middle of florida, and this, keep in mind, is a very large storm, so it is wider than the state of florida, and even as it continues well inland throughout the southeast, it may still be a Tropical Storm into the start of next week. Then were also tracking two other hurricanes. Jose is almost as strong as irma with wind speeds of 150 miles an hour and it is a category 4 hurricane. It is expected to affect some of the same islands that were just basically demolished by irma, and over st. Martin and antigua, but this would be kufcurving ofo the north and not affecting the mainland. And hurricane katia over mexico the next couple days, theyre still dealing with some earthquake aftershocks in the Southern Coast of mexico. We have a possibility of a category 2 hurricane entering there. Here we have calm weather, mostly cloudy skies. Here is tiburon with 68 degrees. Then we work our way inland and morgan hill is all clear, not a cloud in the sky and it is shaping up to be a Beautiful Day with some comfortable weather. At zoo miami, thousands of animals are in the eye of the storm. Most zoos dont go through hurricanes like we have. This zoo has been through hurricane andrew, hurricane wilma, hurricane katrina. These animals flocked to the restroom to escape hurricane andrew which blew through in 92. Announcer people arent the only homeless victims of the reporter and not the only ones without fresh water. We had things totally destroyed around here, yet the animals pretty much survived unscathed. Reporter today these pink flamingos are back in the bulls eye, but this time theyll ride out irma in a new concrete closure. Ron mcgill is helping to relocate many of the animals. We first met ron back after andrew leveled the zoo. Theyre still very nvervous from the storm. Reporter and thats tochi. I took a photo immediately following hurricane andrew with tochi near a trailer that had fallen from the sky right next to him. Yet tochi didnt have a scratch on him. Reporter this time theyre catching these birds, clipping their wings and bringing them inside. While the bigger animals like these lions will stay where they normally sleep. Its something they feel secure in. These houses are made out of poured concrete, welded metal. Everything around them could be destroyed. These will remain intact. Reporter still hes worried what happens to these animals if the zoo take a direct hit. Animals do have an instinct of how to survive and hunker down in these storms. Reporter you see these white birds . Theyre ibis. Local legend has it that the ibis is the last to leave when there is an approaching hurricane and the first to come back when a hurricane passes. Sfoo so the fact theyre still here is maybe an indication to residents theres still time to get out. But just barely, if theyre the last ones there. I wonder what they did with that. Well be back. The sun sent charged particles in the atmosphere and those particles became lights that you now see. I would love to see that. That is really amazing. If you go far enough north, you can see them, but i heard even far northern california, maybe, because that sun is so strong. All you need are the clear skies and that would be really cool to see. For us weve had a lot of clouds and we still see them linger in San Francisco. Temperatures today up to 67 and it will be warming up over the next few days.
