It is partly to mostly cloudy. Our temperatures are nice and cool. At 10 00 well be at 67 degrees. All clear and sunny with highs today only 77 degrees. Reporter the massive storm is taking aim at floor expected to make landfall saturday. That was Sarah Rosario reporting. Lets bring in meteorologist kari hall continuing our Team Coverage with a closer look at irmas path. This hurricane is now downgraded to a category 4 but still very powerful. Wind speeds now at 150 miles an hour but still very large storm moving closer to the bahamas at this point and just north of cuba. It will continue on as a category 4 over some very warm waters, some of the surface temperatures at about 85 degrees, maybe even up to 87 closer to miami. So this will continue on as a major category 4 hurricane making landfall early sunday morning and then continuing up florida and affecting basically the entire state. It will be even into parts of the southeast, maybe even into tennessee, still a Tropical Storm as we go into early next week. So a large area well be watching and a huge part of our population will be affected. No doubt. Thank you very much, kari. We want to turn to rick boone live in Mountain View. We will see that quickly clearing out with temperatures today reaching up to 67 degrees. 69 in oakland and in antioch today expect a high of 84 and 78 in santa rosa. Ill have a look at todays temperature trend for san jose. A light traffic flow around the bay keeps things moving smoothly. Just made its way to the shoulder but reports of some activity in the Center Divide as well. Not a problem as far as the san ma owe bridge. No problem as far as the travel time here. A live look tells a different story but not today. An easy drive for the backup at the bay bridge. We investigate overnight the massive number of animals killed or injured on california roadways. Plus an absolute disaster for equifax, maybe a disaster for you as well. And here is a live look from emeryville. Good friday morning. Were coming up on 6 14 with a mostly cloudy start. As we take a live look outside in san jose our temperature trend for the neighborhood of willow glen will be in the upper 60s at 10 00 this morning. It is going to be such a nice day. Highs in the upper 70s. Cooler than our average high. Well talk about a warmer weekend and an update on Hurricane Irma coming in five minutes. And here is your north bay, moves well slowing out of vallejo. As you get to novato. It turns out california drivers are killing more large animals like deer according to a new road kill report. Its pretty dangerous. We went through the information overnight. Uc davis report finds the number of deadly crashes involving animals jumped up 20 last year. The nearly 400 coyotes, 135 black bears and 43 mountain lions. Five drivers were also killed. A Class Action Lawsuit has been filed against annies home grown. Two plaintiffs accuse them of using false labeling by stating salad dressings are natural. They claim that the dressing used a synthetic ingredient instead of natural products. Plaintiffs want compensation and punitive damages as well as a new corrective ad campaign. Nothing short of disaster for equifax saying they are the victim of a massive hack. Scott, were talking about Social Security numbers, drivers license all stolen. That alone would be a ka tras trophy, right, but it gets worse. Equifax says data may have been posed for 143 Million People in america, basically one out of every three adults. And that is just the start of the problem. The company set up a website and a phone line but many people report the operators on the phone will hang up on you. I tweeted a link to the website you can check it out. This is my personal result. Equifax says it looks as if, yes, my information was stolen. It then recommends i come back later this month to sign up for a service to protect my data. If you have several family members try to use the website one after the other you could run into problems. Unless you refresh it a couple of times, the website seems to remember the results of the last person who used it. I tried this on two different computers. Ied typing in random names like squid ward from Spongebob Square pants. The last six numbers 1, 2, 34, 5, 6 and it said squid ward was at risk. Three equifax executives sold stock in their company after the company knew they had a breach but before it told the public including two of the companys top information officers, the people who actually deal with the data. Executives may have considered committing insider trading. They claim they didnt which, in a way, is worse when you think about it. You dont get protection right away and the website doesnt work right. It doesnt feel like fall yet today. Another company is trying to cash in on pumpkin glazed doughnuts today only. Why only today . One day only. Do they have the Pumpkin Spice could have if he to go along with it . For you, kari hall. Well investigate. Showing green all around the peninsula, south bay looking great after the slower start. The bay shore freeway. We see that pattern sticking around for quite some time. Now north toward Marina Boulevard that crash looks like everything is off to the right. No delays reported. Thats great. A look at waze. That is not a major issue. The east freeway moves very well. Over here this is the only pronounced slowing from highway 4 out of antioch. You want to cut down out of pittsburg. It will save you about five minutes. Locals through the area know that. Thats the forecasting that we do on the roadways. Nbc bay area wazers. Thats the team to be on. At 6 19, mike, we have some patchy fog along the coast and in San Francisco. Going to see the skies clearing as we go throughout the morning and our south bay temperatures today reaching up to 77 degrees in san jose. 78 in milpitas. Were looking at the rest of the transit agencies, still reporting no delays. That is the good news. Friday light commute, a mild build through richmond. I think its westbound. I also think its off to the shoulder as you approach the caldecott tunnel. The rest of the bay moves well. Thank you. And now the latest on Hurricane Irma. Overnight forecasters lowered the storm to a category 4. The storm still has its sights set on florida. So far all the destruction and nbc news has confirmed at least 17 deaths because of the storm. In fact, six deaths are in the u. S. Territories of puerto rico and the virgin islands. Overnight irma battered turks and caicos. As for south floor people were fleeing the effects of irma. Airports also packed with people trying to escape the hurricanes wrath. Today in the bays bob redell joins us live from San FranciscoInternational Airport this morning where some people actually just landed a few hours ago coming in miami. Good morning, bob. Reporter yes, good morning, laura. Very lucky to get out when you consider the number of Flights Canceled out of south florida. Were talking about numbers in the hundreds, people are very fortunate to get flights out of there to avoid Hurricane Irma. The flights were talking about arrived at sfo from miami around 2 00 this morning. Several hours than it was supposed to, due to the chaos back in Miami International and they described a hectic scene where many people are trying to escape Hurricane Irma. One woman evacuated. She lived through hurricane andrew which hit south florida back in 92. Shes afraid this time, what happened which is not far from miami. Im worried about flooding because i live on the canal and i am in the flood zone. I move as many things as i could up to the second floor. And ill see when i return home just what i have to deal with. Im most worried about roof damage. Once water gets inside the house its a mess. Ive been through this before and i know. Reporter we spoke with another passenger who tells us they have friends all over the country and trying to get a flight anywhere. The flight was to sfo. He will be staying with someone here in the bay area riding out Hurricane Irma on the west coast while, unfortunately, it looks like it will hit the east coast. Reporting live, bob redell, today in the bay. Thank you, bob. Make sure you stay up to date on Hurricane Irmas path by heading to our website, nbcbayarea. Com. Our vianey arana is in miami to report on the storm. We will be monitoring the situation throughout the weekend both on air and online. At 6 35 now to breaking news of mexico. Overnight a massive earthquake has turned deadly. It struck late last night off mexicos Southern Coast toppling homes and leading to tsunami waves and evacs. The usgs is measuring this an 8. 1 magnitude quake and were just learning there have been fearly 30 quakes aftershocks over 4. 0 since the big one and within the last few minutes nbc news confirmed the death toll has also risen. 26 people have died including multiple children. Officials say there have been dozens and dozens of aftershocks as i mentioned. This is all happening 600 miles southwest of mexico city. Buildings in the capital were swaying. Weve been getting images in to our news all overnight including one showing a crack in the actual streets of mexico city. You see it there. Mexicos president says this is the strongest earthquake to hit the country in at least 100 years. With all these natural disasters happening across the globe, we want to get you up to date on what you can do when the next big earthquake, and we know it will hit some time here in california. We want to bring in meteorologist kari hall on how to prepare for this. And now its the time to do that as we get a reminder that this could happen any second and we are this weekend maybe making plans to put together your emergency kit for an earthquake. You need at least a gallon of water per person for about two weeks. Also, nonperishable foods and a can opener, some other things to include in your kit, a whistle, a first aid kit, flashlights and batteries. Also you will need some of your paperwork, your documents, your vital documents as well as your insurance and things like that, some cash and medication and if you have a pet, you need their supplies as well, also gloves, mask, and heavy duty plastic bags for cleanup. All of this is on redcross. Org. Our weekend forecast is coming up. Thanks for the latest there, kari. At 6 37 we have some breaking news coming in to our newsroom and live pictures from ohio. Well bring them to you. Happening today a Law Enforcement training in the east bay will host a weapons expo as protesters prepare to gather at the same time to say police should train to behave like peace officers and not like soldiers. Today in the bays kris sanchez joins us live with the urban shield training and protests planned about nine hours from now. Kris . Reporter yeah, thats right, marcus and laura. The developers of urban shield training say that it is intense training for intense times and that is really part of the issue for protesters. About 1,000 or so Police Officers are going to be inside at that weapons expo later on today in dublin but then thousands of protesters will gather about 20 miles away in oakland. The protesters say that the weapons are one part of what leads to the militarization of our local Law Enforcement. That expo is today here at 4 00 in dublin, the same time protesters gather calling for an end to this kind of urban shield training. I pulled up prior exercises. In 2013 there was a simulated passenger train crash focused on mass casualties. Simulated explosive terror attack, how agencies deal with donations. In 2015 a coordinated terrorist attack, a simulated one, focused on training for Mass Transportation and evacuation. Last year the earthquake exercise tested the regional distribution of goods and this is on shelter. I did post a poll in my twitter feed asking whether you want your local Police Department to participate in exercises like urban shield. About a quarter of you say, yes, in the name of emergency preparedness. About half of you say no because it leads to officers acting more like soldiers and about a quarter of you say it should really be up to individual Police Departments to decide. Now in the last week the Trump Administration overturned some obamaera rules saying that making it easier to acquire surplus military goods that is likely going to fuel the conversation today. In dublin, kris sanchez, today in the bay. Some details on that, more to think about. On the roadways not a lot but still focused on the roadways, looking at your friday light. And, of course, the trivalley is great. Its hayward where we see more slowing. The build is on for the morning commute. Friday we still have that commute. People have to go to work. Eastbound 24 we did have the crash. It is indeed off the shoulder and no slowing through this area. The san mateo bridge, no problems on the bridge itself. No big surprises there. Its friday. What . You can come to work tomorrow if you want. For some people it did sneak up on them because it was a shorter week, so as we look ahead to this weekend coming up it will be warmer especially for the inland valleys. We really feel the warmth on sunday. So saturday is still going to be nice. Mostly some 80s from the bay to the inland areas. The coast in the upper 60s and on sunday great beach weather as we will see the highs up to 76 degrees. 85 for the bay. Inland a hot 96 degrees. If youre making plans to go to the jack of all trades market in oakland, for tomorrow it starts out at 58 degrees and then only seeing highs into the mid70s. Upper 70s by 4 00. So, yeah, youll want to make plans to head to the Jack London Square area and also for Mountain View we have the art and Wine Festival for tomorrow starting out in the upper 60s. Also reaching into the mid70s. Perfect weather, maybe wrapping up the weekend with the home game of the 49ers season. People have different names for our commander in chief but the former head of the Republican Party describes President Trump as a, quote, free range chicken. Scott mcgrew is here and, scott, the president is ready to make more deals with democrats. Yeah, good morning. Michael steele made the poultry comment a day after President Trump stunned his fellow republicans by making a deal to raise the debt ceiling and fund the government. He said he would be willing to work with the Senate Minority leaders and Chuck Schumer over in the senate to get rid of the debt ceiling forever. Now understand the debt ceiling had to be raised. The president agreed to a shorter time line that will give democrats extra negotiating power. The president on his new bipartisan attitude. And i said frankly its time that we walk out and shake hands and have a and they agreed, and i will tell you, there was a lot of spirit in that room, a lot of good spirit. Congress could vote to raise the debt ceiling as early as today. Each Year Congress passes a budget, almost always the budget is more money than we actually have. And the difference obviously is the. This comes due once weve used up all the money. The same congress that approved the Budget Approved the debt at a later date. Schumer and now the president would like to say it makes more sense to raise the debt ceiling right into the budget process. Well be examining the president s tweets all week. Martin possibly as a category 3 but this will curve before it makes its way to the mainland. On the eastern side of mexico there is a hurricane that has been remaining nearly stationary with wind speeds of 90 miles an hour this may strengthen into a category 2 before moving inland and moving off towards the west as well. So a lot of things to be watching here and for us we will have some warmer temperatures by the end of the weekend. San francisco will be in the mid70s and a chance of showers for the middle of next week. Inland areas, its going to be a hot weekend.
