They had a couple lanes also closed. They had all lanes closed for about ten minutes while they airlifted the person involved in the crash, two lanes blocked for quite some time. Now all lanes have reopened. The crash on the shoulder and the brush fire. Cal fire took care of that. They are being vigilant all around the area. Speed sensors are not a problem. We know it will stretch long into this weekend and its a Holiday Weekend. Today in the bays pete suratos is live at the Alameda County fair grounds with how scorching temperatures will impact. A big one here. 152nd annual. Organizers tell me they are expecting about 35,000 people to be here on saturday and sunday and folks coming down theyre prepared for the heat. All of the buildings that house vendors are airconditioned. Well have five misters, where water and mist form, very refreshing. Five stations to help with people. Its easy to get out of the direct sun. Reporter air conditioning and shade is what hes telling us. They will shield folks away from the heat. An organizer tells me plenty of medical assistance as well. Two things come to mind. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The symptoms are faintness, nausea and weakness so you want to move the person out of the heat, have them drink cool water and cool them down by spraying or sponging down with cool water. Heat stroke symptoms include fever, rapid pulse, rapid breathing. Maybe place ice packs on their neck, use a fan while misting with cool water. If someone has a heat stroke you may want to get medical help asap. The key point is to stay hydrated and cool down when you can during the heat wave this week. It will be hot all around the bay area and it is some of the hottest weather so far this summer. We could be setting new records and well talk about that as you walk out the door it already feels warm. Its in the low 70s in the south bay and the peninsula, the trivalley at 66 degrees. Also in the north bay, mild in San Francisco with the start out at 70 degrees. Our high temperatures,gilroy a high of 108 degrees. 103 in downtown san jose. And 113 degrees in antioch. Danville, 110. Hayward will be up to 101 degrees. In belmont expect a high of 98 degrees and 101 in palo alto and San Francisco will be reaching into the low 90s in the mission district. The outer sunset will be warm at 86 and 103 in sonoma. Santa rosa a high of 105 degrees and that sevenday forecast is up at the bottom of the screen. Youll see we will have several days of this high heat and more poor air quality. Its unhealthy for all groups and is the first time weve had that type of poor air quality in several years. Even if you have breathing problems or if you dont, its not the time to go out for a long walk or a jog as those temperatures really heat up. We have several temperatures that may be setting some new records. Weve been talking about the potential of reaching 115 degrees in parts of the trivalley, san jose expecting a high up to 104. And the old record is 101. Some of these temperature records go back to 1950 and we may see those going by the wayside. So we are dealing with some extreme temperatures today as youre getting ready this morning. It will be a great day to go swimming, go to the beach, and of course you dont want to forget the sunglasses. Also something to help keep you cool or give you shade at the beach if youre going to Half Moon Bay look at these temperatures here. For this afternoon well be up to 88 degrees. I think there will be a lot more people in the water than we normally see. And as we go into the next several days in San Francisco, the only thing that may break the heat could be the chance of some thunderstorms heading into sunday as well as labor day. The chance right now looks very slight. Will still be well above average. Well be up to 112. 110 tomorrow. Just as hot and then that chance of some isolated thunderstorms on sunday and monday.
