According to a cps report, eden lynch was in the care of two people the final days of her life. Her father and his girlfriend. Her family says she was the light of their lives. A funny, kind girl who loved to play pretend. For years, they wanted answers from the last two people who were alone with eden. Tonight is a story of two families, two sides and two suspects. In spring of 2011, u. S. Coast Guard Service member jimmy barlow and his girlfriend holly were blending families. Jimmy had just gotten custody of eden lynch a month before her third birthday. I called all the time. Reporter in southern california, edens mom lost custody. A guard delivered news eden was in the hospital. He is like your daughter is sick. And i said no, she is not. She is dead. And he looked at me and asked me why did you say that . I said because he did it. He did it, didnt he . Reporter she immediately suspected jimmy claiming he had abused her during their three year relationship. What made you fear the safety of your daughter . The past. She didnt report the abuse because she was afraid of him. Jimmy denied any Domestic Violence with erika. Reporter do you believe what holly and jimmy say happened to your granddaughter . No i dont. Reporter according to medical records and reports they told eden tumbled down concrete steps. They told investigators they didnt take eden to the doctor because she seemed okay. They say eden collapsed nine days later. Holly called 911 and by then it was too late. She didnt look like my baby. Reporter eden never woke up. The coroner ruled it homicide. She had been in jimmy and hollys care for four months. Social workers noted jimmy and holly severely neglected. And failed to obtain medical attention. Weeks turned into months and then years with no arrests holly and jimmy moved to alaska. They had two children and married. Nothing has been done. Reporter then a surprise. Last summer five years after eden died prosecutors with the coast guard filed four counts of failing to protect their child. His attorney told us neither jimmy nor holly did anything harmful to eden to cause her death and that jimmy absolutely loved her daughter. The lynchs wondered how did the coast guard come up with more evidence. They both had a reasonable expectation to protect that child. Reporter dan scott is a retired los angeles sheriffs detective with more than 30 years of experience. He served on a Blue Ribbon Commission to investigate crimes against children. You look at the injury and look at the explanation and easy to see when it doesnt fit. Reporter enough evidence to arrest them both for child endangerment. Holly returned to the bay area with her children facing no charges and as far as edens family could tell, no question. So we decided to ask her ourselves outside her mothers home in vallejo. Do you know what happened to eden. Did you have anything to do with edens death . The day after holly declined to speak. The Alameda County da filed a felony child abuse charge. They say she was in sole care of eden and failed to seek medical help. Erika lynch is starting again. I have been Substance Abuse free since december 25th 2013. Now we learned yesterday the coast guard trial has been delayed from september to december 4th. We will be there in alameda as it unfolds. The da filed charges against holly but as of right now has not been arrested. Such a difficult story. And so sad.
