The Knoxville City Council approved the purchase of the former East Elementary School site for housing development at its meeting Monday. Interim City Manager Heather Ussery explains the details of this agreement.
“At the beginning of April, the city received an offer to purchase the former East Elementary property from Knoxville Economic Development Commission. We held the public hearing and approved the proposal to purchase the property. KEDC offered $2,500 per lot. They’re requesting to do 10 single-family homes on that property, so that was a total of $25,000. Then an additional $25,000 for a total of $50,000 that will be retained to have a park on the south side of the property. The purchase of the property was approved, as well as the development agreement.”
