Corey T. Badgerow, 29, was convicted of thefts from the 445 Princess St. Shoppers Drug Mart in late September and the Barrack Street LCBO in late October, plus two related violations of probation imposed in May 2019 by failing to keep the peace. He was given double credit on 21 days of pretrial custody and sentenced to time served. Badgerow stole $77 worth of merchandise from Shoppers Drug Mart in September, according to assistant Crown attorney John Skoropada, but was spotted by the store’s loss prevention officer as he attempted to leave without paying and was intercepted, resulting in full recovery of the items. Justice Larry O’Brien was told that Badgerow was able to initially elude detection during the October theft from the LCBO, however, and the bottle of Alberta Whiskey he stole was not recovered. His theft was caught on video surveillance, however, and he was subsequently identified from those images and arrested. Skoropada didn’t recommend probation and told the judge that Badgerow’s crimes appeared to be motivated by financial need. Badgerow disclosed to the judge that he’s considering a return to school, which provoked Justice O’Brien to ask if he’d like probation assistance. Badgerow declined and said he thinks that he already has some supports in the community.
