As the traditional gala and awarding of the Nobel Prizes could not take place in person this year, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden has sent a video greeting to the Noble Laureates on what would have been the day of the glamorous events. However, a small ceremony took place yesterday in the Golden Hall of Stockholm City Hall.
From the Royal Palace in Stockholm and with Queen Silvia at his side, the King spoke in English to this year’s winners, who were presented their awards earlier in the week in their home countries.
His Majesty’s speech focused on COVID-19 and the challenges the world has faced in 2020; he praised scientists for their work in combating the virus and expressed his hope that they are able to visit Sweden in the future.
