The waterfront property will evoke a retro-chic, psychedelic-inspired aesthetic

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has announced it will launch a new property in its hometown of San Francisco for the first time in six years. Kimpton Alton Hotel is set to open next month in the city’s Fisherman’s Wharf neighborhood.
The 248-room waterfront hotel will evoke retro-chic vibes inspired by its namesake, late psychedelic artist Alton Kelley. Kimpton’s in-house design team partnered with interior designer Kara Mann and architecture firm Arcsine to weave a groovy narrative that honors the 1970s structure it occupies.
“We embraced the original architecture of the building and the artistic inspiration of the hotel,” says Ave Bradley, global senior vice president of design for Kimpton. “Avoiding the gimmicks of most Fisherman’s Wharf establishments, we embraced a residential sensibility with moody lighting, vintage-inspired furnishings, and thoughtful design details. As a San Francisco-based company, we wanted to draw attention to not just the micro-neighborhood of Fisherman’s Wharf, but to expand guests’ reach and ability to tap into some of the city’s most storied neighborhoods.”
