We begin tonight with the firefight to try to save a buddhist temple in the south bay. San jose firefighters were able to put out the flames and gain control, but the damage is already done. Good evening. Im ama daetz. Im dan ashley. Thanks for joining us. This fire jumped quickly in size with crews fighting the flames for a number of hours. They say theyre going to stay on the scene tonight to flare ups. Onitor any potenti firefighters were first called to the vietnamese temple near the 680 freeway exit at alum rock avenue. Thats jt a mile from Regional Medical center. Abc seven news south bay reporter Lauren Martinez has more on the Lasting Impact for those who live inside. As flames tore through the roof of this temple, for People Living in a unit above the garage managed to get out safely, fire Officials Say the incident off foss avenue was reported around 545 monday evening, and it quickly grew to a three alarm fire. We need to make sure that things are completely out. The last thing we want is to get a rekindle, so were going to take our time, put things together in an orderly fashion, get a salvage and overhaul plan, make sure that the fire is completely cold. The temple is located on a corner tucked inside of a neighborhood, making it somewhat difficult for First Responders to access. The major challenge was the fact that this is a large dead end, and so weve actually had to get two elevated master streams in order to what we call surround and drown. We went to a defensive posture. Members from the buddhist temple are still grappling with the amount of damage the fire caused. One man told me he was one of the four residents inside when he heard the fire break out. He didnt want to go on camera but said hes glad everyone is okay. Fire Officials Say the four people displaced are Getting Services from another buddhist temple nearby. This does not appear to be a hate crime because its a place of worship. You know, theres always a possibility that theres some kind of nefarious element to it. This does not appear to be that san jose fire says the cause is still under investigation in san jose. Lauren martinez abc seven news. More than half a dozen tesla supercharger nozzles were cut and stolen from a charging station outside target in vallejo this past weekend. Similar cases like this are popping up across the country, and abc seven News Reporter j. R. Stone is following the story and is here with new details tonight. Jerry. Dan. Umma, when i arrived in vallejo today, there were some people charging on the superchargers that worked. The other area was roped off and when i told drivers what had happened, they said, what . Theres truly a sense of frustration out there. Like what . Wont they steal . Cut all the tesla charging cables. Thats Joshua Beckler who recorded that video in vallejo sunday. Monday, tesla crews could be seen fixing the stolen nozzles. The supercharger location behind the target. I went to go to the gym with the wife. I went to park the tesla to charge it while we were inside and found that the majority of the tesla cables have been cut right before we walked in. As to how many nozzles were cut and stolen, theres one, two, three. Well speed it up. Since so many were hit seven, eight and nine that were ahead. Yes nine charger nozzles cut and stolen, nine others untouched, along with generators that were untouched. Its crazy. Stupid like, i dont know why i would even do that. Now that i hear it from you, im shocked. We broke news to some tesla drivers and even showed them the wires that had been cut after crews replaced them. This is what they cut here on the wire. What is your thought looking at this wire that was cut, well, x amount of things, i mean, is there copper in there, somebody do it at a frustration with the mass layoff . Thats been going on left and right . Becklers belief about what happened here echoes the talk online. And in light of recent incidents similar to this one across the country. Well, i used to run investigations for quite some time, 17 years for local retailers. And so it was a common sight to see generators stripped in the back of local retailers, often for the copper. And so seeing that theres a ton of copper in those cables and seeing that they had removed the cables and taken them with them, as well as a junction box that had a ton of copper in it, then its pretty obvious that they went to go scrap it. These charging stations are in view of a parking lot surveillance camera, but its unclear at this point if that camera captured any images to help in the investigation. Vallejo police tell me they are looking into the online reports submitted. No arrests have been made. Sources tell me at least one other non tesla charger has been hit in recent weeks in this area too. We also saw a case last week in houston, texas. Tesla did not return my emails in target. Did not get back to me regarding possible surveillance video. J. R. Stone, abc seven news. All right, j. R. Thank you so much for that.
