Good morning. Good morning stephanie. Happy Saint Patricks day everyone. Were looking at another clear day out there. We have had a return of the marine layer. The low clouds, the fog, the stratus with us along the shoreline and some patchy fog up in the valleys of the north bay. So very quiet. Satellite picture 52 in hayward. It is 51 in concord, with 45 in fremont. And that fog with mid 40s in santa rosa. 41 novato. So theres a look at the three quarter mile visibility. Napa, half a mile santa rosa and the stratus right along the coast inside the bay there by oakland. By 10 00 it clears. But you can see it sets up again right along the coast. So its a summertime pattern for midmarch as we go through the next few hours. Its cool. In the 50s that patchy low cloud deck with some fog and then by noontime were sunny, the sea breeze kicking up throughout the afternoon, keeping it in the low 60s at our beaches. Upper 60s around hayward. Low 70s for you into concord, and several more dry days before we see a return to some wet weather. Stephanie. Lisa. Thank you. The fog here along the peninsula allowing for that cooler day. And as we look outside, you can get a glimpse of that marine layer, the sun coming up at 716. It sets at 719. So the low clouds and patchy fog for some of you. And then throughout the day today, Saint Patricks day, sunny and cooler at the coast, some low 60s settling in there with that sea breeze. The rest of us a little bit above average. And that will take us through the first day of spring, which arrives tuesday evening. After that, some more intense cooling. But as we review our rainfall percentage of normal for the season, pretty much everyone above average except for oakland 117 of average in santa rosa with over 32in of rain. Next up, San Francisco nearly 22in with 116 of average, 126 of average in san jose at 13in. And that 13in keeps oakland at 87 of average. So as we look at our snowpack, it was abysmal in january at 28 and now at 104, could add as much as a foot of snow by next weekend into the sierra nevada. The next several days in san jose will be the mildest, pretty much around the bay area. Tomorrow well see a bump up into the mid 70s for the south bay santa clara and then dropping off a bit on tuesday, kind of staying the same there wednesday and thursday. But the rest of the bay will begin to cool by the time we get into thursday. And then friday and saturday 60s with this arriving. This is our forecast model for friday morning, bringing some rain into the bay area. And then it looks like its going to spread into the mountains, the sierra nevada. And then as we get into the rest of the weekend, its slow to move out. So well be watching that for you and bringing those spring showers as we get towards the end of the workweek. Upper 60s today in oakland looking at upper 60s, the peninsula with that sea breeze intact, low 70s for the north bay and the south bay, well take that inland as well. Its a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and families affected by cancer. I want to introduce you to beckett and his journey to becoming okayasu strong. Going through Cancer Treatment is really isolating, really emotional and really hard. Meet erica and blake posnanski, the proud parents of three boys, Dillon Tanner and beckett. When beckett was four years old, he was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia that affects the blood and bone marrow. He actually started with what we thought was a stye in his eyes. He had a swollen eye, acute lymphocytic leukemia, or al doesnt normally appear that way. We for a couple of weeks thought he actually just had something in in his eye, not really thinking much of it. It wasnt until a checkup appointment the head of the e. R. Came in and 80 of his bone marrow was cancerous, a diagnosis that changed their world. Its very overwhelming. I remember when i would be going into clinic with beckett, and i would just be so desperate for connection. Thats until the bosnian guys found okayasu ocasey provides a safe, loving place to just be where youre not isolated and youre not alone anymore. For 43 years, camp okayasu has offered support programs to families who have a child facing cancer. Thousands of patients, just like beckett, come to camp to feel united with survivors like them. It was like the world just opened. It was like, this is what normalcy is like. So he was around other kids. Other kids didnt have. They had lost their hair. Other kids had had, you know, medicine that they ended up having to take. It was incredible to be able to see. Okayasu offers a variety of camps, including sibling camp, oncology camp and family camp, where parents bond and learn from each other through group sessions. The one thing that came across from every single parent was, i wish i would have asked for bloodwork sooner because if i would have asked for bloodwork sooner in all of this, we would have been able to get to a diagnosis sooner, and our child wouldnt have been so sick. In 2020, camp okayasu facility in berry creek suffered significant damage during the north complex fires. The fire burned most of the 500 acre property, and the camp has been searching for a permanent home ever since. Something with so many precious memories, its just been so scarred. Despite the loss, the place might be gone right now, but the people definitely arent. Oh, kaisers magic lives on each and every year. It gives them a space to just be themselves, where it really becomes your your community. In my hardest moments of treatment, i would turn to the kaiser families, a space filled with acceptance, healing, unity, and a family of survivors just like beckett, who was pushed into remission. The agency wants to expand its no turn on red restrictions to boost pedestrian safety. And heres a live look from our exploratorium camera. Looking at the bay bridge this morning, you see the start of have Heart Failure with unresolved symptoms . It may be time to see the bigger picture. Heart failure and seemingly unrelated symptoms, like carpal tunnel syndrome, shortness of breath, and irregular heartbeat could be something more serious called attrcm, a rare, underdiagnosed disease that worsens over time. Sound like you . Call your cardiologist, and ask about attrcm. Looking at the bay bridge this morning. Pretty shot at 637. There could be some changes coming affecting the way you drive in San Francisco this week, the community will be asked to weigh in on a proposal to add no turn on red signs in rerictions would bethe new implemented in the downtown area , including streets located on the north and south parts of market. Heres abc seven News ReporterLyanne Melendez since 2021, San Franciscos tenderloin district has had more than 50 intersections with no turn on red restrictions. One year after it was implemented, the San FranciscoMunicipal Transportation Agency found that 92 of drivers were complying with the law. So the city thought, why not apply those restrictions in other neighborhoods . San francisco is not anticar ricardo olea is with sfmta. Heres what he told us two months ago on their expansion plans. We are in the process of expanding prohibitions on turns on red into pedestrian heavy areas such as Downtown Union square, and that that project will start this year. That plan has already started, and now theyre considering expanding the no turn on red restrictions even further to include 200 more intersections north and south of market street, pending public hearings next week. How about the rest of the city . We will see citywide, like new york city. Are we going to be new york city . No. The plan at this point is not to make San Francisco be like new york city. Were not at the point at which we say that every single intersection in San Francisco should have a no turn on red. We want to have people understand. And when theyre going to the tenderloin or downtown or a heavy commercial area. Oh, the reason that this sign is there is because of pedestrian safety. Traffic safety has been a huge challenge for San Francisco. Ten years ago, the city vowed to get to zero traffic deaths by 2024. And here we are. And so far this year, there have been seven traffic deaths, the last one on march 2nd, a pedestrian killed by a hit and run driver in the tenderloin. Even though the speed limit there has now been reduced to 20 miles an hour and turns on red lights are not allowed. Still, we caught a driver trying to make a left turn on red while i was crossing the street, and while we were doing that interview in january, we caught a series of violations and that person made a that person made a right turn on red. Do you see that . Yes, yes. If theres no enforcement, you can change all the rules you want to and no one will take them seriously. So we do need Traffic Enforcement and we need Traffic Enforcement of speeding, running red lights. We cruised around the tenderloin to see if police were actively stopping drivers for traffic violations. Instead, what we found were Police Searching a car for possible firearms. They have other challenges. Theyre dealing with violent crime, and were dealing with fentanyl sales. And theres a lot of challenges. Challenges in the tenderloin. But the officers do a great job on Traffic Enforcement to the extent that they can. How many citations have been written . Yeah, i dont have the exact number. But what i do know is that were also very grateful for the Highway Patrol that have been really good partners with us for the last year. Theyve written a lot of citations as well. Beginning last year, the california Highway Patrol agreed to assist sfpd by enforcing all traffic violations in the tenderloin and surrounding areas. And next year, the city will install 33 speeding cameras throughout the city in an effort to minimize the number of traffic deaths. That was leon melendez reporting. Other cities are also having this problem, too. In fact, last year, pedestrian deaths reached a 40 year high across the country, and now places like chicago, la and seattle are considering banning the practice of turning right on red. Before we head to break, lets check in with lisa. Good morning. Good morning. What a view here. Gorgeous view of the low clouds and fog from mount tam. The marine layer is with us. Is it spring .
