The road ahead looks much murkier after the dmv suspended the permit for cruises selfdriving cars to operate in San Francisco. Abc7 News Reporter tim johns is here with the crash that led to the suspension and what it means for the industry going forward. Tim yeah, amid the news of cruises suspension, got a lot of attention today both among city leaders as well as with technology at sparks. I spoke to some of them to see whats next for the industry right here in the bay area. Swift reaction tuesday following the dmvs announcement that it was halting cruises permit to operate Autonomous Cars in San Francisco. Better late than never. I mean, it really begs the question, which is why they were not listening to the San Francisco fire department, the San FranciscoMunicipal Transport Agency that have been saying for a long time that cruise vehicles are not safe. The dmvs decision coming after a high profile accident earlier this month in the city. A woman was run over by a selfdriving cruise car on Market Street after she had been hit by a human driver right before abc7 news spoke one on one with an eyewitness. The moment it happened. In our exclusive interview, he described what he saw. I stood down, you know, and i started finding out whether or not the first little. Hello, laura, are you okay . Its so devastating to see what is happening right in front of our eyes. We had to be a part of it. On tuesday, 50 of proceeds from el halal amigos went toward humanitarian aid to gaza. On wednesday, 50 of proceeds from murchies cafe in fremont and dublin will go towards the same effort. The business and Marketing Group halal fest said. This is all part of a two week fundraiser that started out with two restaurants in the bay area that is now turned into 14. We all humans, i mean, this could be us. Its deep to every parent whos who has a child. The focus of the fundraisers is to send relief support for the children of gaza. Dozens of states joined to sue the menlo park company, alleging facebook and instagram enable features that are harmful to young peoples mental health. We know that meta knows that instagram is addicting. It even used that word internally addicting metas conduct is deceptive. Its dangerous and as we make clear in our lawsuit, it is illegal. The federal lawsuit filed in Northern California accuses meta of designing to addict children. New at 11, a troublemaking otter that has become a bit of a local celebrity this year now has big news of its own. Its a dangerous hurricane at that hurricane otis expected to bring catastrophic damage that is likely according to the National Hurricane center. With the storm surge, 8 to 16in of rain destructive winds, it is nearing landfall in acapulco and this could be the strongest hurricane to hit acapulco in its entire history. Its a cat five right now. Winds of 165 miles an hour. Landfall expected in just the next few hours as of five or close to that. Quickly weakening to a three and then eventually a tropical storm. But obviously, southern mexico is going to get hit hard. Our situation in a little bit different.
