New this morning, a tentative agreement has been reached between Kaiser Permanente and union members. This comes nearly a week after 75,000 Health Care Workers went on a three day strike over pay and staffing shortages. The coalition of Kaiser Permanente unions posted the announcement on social media. They are calling the agreement a victory for Health Care Workers. Developing news on the war in israel. Starting today, the Biden Administration is arranging charter flights for us citizens who are looking to leave israel. A white house spokesperson, john kirby, says the flights are for americans and their immediate family members. Details are still being finalized, including if the flights will be free. Israel military is urging more than a Million People living in the Northern Gaza Strip to leave before midnight there, which is just about eight hours from now. Californias Homeland Security advisor says that they have been in touch with faith leaders and communities across the state. Abc seven has learned Stanford Law School is moving all of its classes to zoom today over fears of violence because of ongoing tensions on campus. Thats according to the stanford daily newspaper. A message from the interim dean reportedly says the school is not facing any credible threat. That is just out. Once again, an abundance of caution. This war is causing a jolt at several of our nations universities and college campuses. Yesterday, a group of students at the university of North Carolina protested in support of palestinians. Columbia university in new york city closed its manhattan campus to allow for dual proisraeli and palestinian protests. Those same tensions are being felt here at home. Theyre becoming worried about their own sense of security. 13 year old ahmad subhi says the conversation he has had at school with friends or other classmates have been welcoming. But one parent told him not to speak up and this was his response. Sfusd Teachers Union say that members have overwhelmingly authorized a strike. Reggie more than 3000 San Francisco unified teachers cast their ballots just yesterday. They and 97 of them voted to authorize a strike. Now, just because that this was overwhelmingly approved, that does not mean that teachers are going to walk out, but it does now give Union Leaders the power to call one if needed after the strike was authorized, the district put out a new offer with a 10,000 raise for all credentialed teachers, with a 4 raise for next year. The union, however, is asking for a 12,000 raise this year and a 7. 5 raise next year for our educator vacancies are skyrocketing, impacting every child in sfusd and every school site. We cannot we cannot agree to what the district currently has, and we will make that known. So many schools are performing staffing, gymnastics, putting teachers in positions that are not their expertise and asking them to wear several hats. This is not fair and it is not sustainable. The union that represents 900 para educators Food Service Workers and custodians voted voted also to authorize a strike last week. They want the district to keep up with what the city pays for similar jobs, which they say is up to 25 higher. The in a statement, the district said, our employees are critical to creating an education environment where each and every student can learn and thrive. We want to reach an agreement that honors our employees contribution and ensures we are responsive stewarding public funds. There is another negotiation session scheduled for monday, but just. Israels military is telling people to evacuate the Northern Gaza Strip before midnight. Their time, which is about 7. 5 hours from now. The un says it considers such a Mass Movement impossible to take place without, quote, devastate humanitarian consequences. Is the order could signal an impending ground attack from israel. All but the military has not officially confirmed that. The un says nearly 425,000 people have now been displaced in gaza out of a population of about 2. 5 million. The Associated Press reports at least 2700 people have been killed in both israel and gaza. The crisis started saturday when the Hamas Terror Group launched a surprise assault on israeli citizens. The Us Government will Begin Operating evacuation flights today to help americans leave israel. Lena well, more than 97 of San Francisco unified teachers voted to authorize a strike yesterday and theyre hoping to see things like pay benefits, prep time and what they are calling a skyrocketing Teacher Vacancy rate addressed. Now even though it was overwhelmingly approved, that does not mean the teachers are going to walk out, but it does now give Union Leaders the power to call one. After the strike was authorized, the district put out a new offer with a 10,000 raise for all credentialed teachers with a 4 raise. Nobody wants to go on strike. Teachers and educators dont want it. Parents and families dont want it. However in order to avoid a strike, sfusd must support our teachers and support staff and agree to a fair contract. Workers and custodians voted also to authorize a strike last week. They want the district to keep up with what the city pays for similar jobs, which they say is up to 25 higher. In a statement, the district said sfusd is working diligently and in good faith to reach an agreement with our labor partners.
