Clouds will thicken, though, as the day goes on because of a cold front that is approaching us as we speak. Right now, though, underneath mainly clear skies, a lot of us starting in the 40s from Half Moon Bay at 45 to san ramon at 4944 in santa rosa, 49, in palo alto. So the jacket i would take it with you out the door this morning. Heres a live look at san jose where we do have mainly clear skies. But the planner today shows you those clouds will thicken throughout the afternoon, turning partly sunny by 4 p. M. And then at night there is the chance of a shower, mainly in the north bay. New this morning, a tentative agreement has been reached between Kaiser Permanente and union members. This comes nearly a week after 75,000 Health Care Workers went on a three day strike over pay and staffing shortages. The coalition of Kaiser Permanente unions posted the announcement on social media. They are calling the agreement a victory for Health Care Workers. Developing news on the war in israel. Starting today, the Biden Administration is arranging charter flights for us citizens who are looking to leave israel. A white house spokesperson, john kirby, says the flights are for americans and their immediate family members. Details are still being finalized, including if the flights will be free. Israel military is urging more than a Million People living in the Northern Gaza Strip to leave before midnight there, which is just about eight hours from now. This evacuation alert comes one week after hamas stormed israeli neighborhoods. At least 27 americans have been killed. Obviously, if anything turns violent, we will, you know, stand for that and well take appropriate action in order to protect lives and property. But people are coming out to make their voices heard and practice their First Amendment rights. We will absolutely facilitate those and well be on hand to make sure its done in a peaceful and safe manner for anyone who comes out. Californias Homeland Security advisor says that they have been in touch with faith leaders and communities across the state. Abc seven has learned Stanford Law School is moving all of its classes to zoom today over fears of violence because of ongoing tensions on campus. Thats according to the stanford daily newspaper. A message from the interim dean reportedly says the school is not facing any credible threat. That is just out. Once again, an abundance of caution. This war is causing a jolt at several of our nations universities and college campuses. Yesterday, a group of students at the university of North Carolina protested in support of palestinians. Columbia university in new york city closed its manhattan campus to allow for dual proisraeli and palestinian protests. Those same tensions are being felt here at home. Students watch whats happening in the middle east. Theyre becoming worried about their own sense of security. 13 year old ahmad subhi says the conversation he has had at school with friends or other classmates have been welcoming. But one parent told him not to speak up and this was his response. I dont think its very just to lower my voice about how palestinians are being oppressed and losing their lives, helping them just constantly be aware and think about whats happening around them and not be afraid to talk, because thats sometimes our most powerful tool is being able to talk and raise awareness. The council on American Islamic relations and the Muslim Community association say they are working with School Administrators and parents on how to have healthy dialog dog their could soon be another strike to add to the summer of strikes that weve seen over the past few months. Sfusd Teachers Union say that members have overwhelmingly authorized a strike. Abc seven News Reporter lena howland is live in San Francisco with what teachers are demanding now in these contract negotiations. Lena. Reggie more than 3000 San Francisco unified teachers cast their ballots just yesterday. They and 97 of them voted to authorize a strike. Now, just because that this was overwhelmingly approved, that does not mean that teachers are going to walk out, but it does now give Union Leaders the power to call one if needed after the strike was authorized, the district put out a new offer with a 10,000 raise for all credentialed teachers, with a 4 raise for next year. The union, however, is asking for a 12,000 raise this year and a 7. 5 raise next year for our educator vacancies are skyrocketing, impacting every child in sfusd and every school site. We cannot we cannot agree to what the district currently has, and we will make that known. So many schools are performing staffing, gymnastics, putting teachers in positions that are not their expertise and asking them to wear several hats. This is not fair and it is not sustainable. The union that represents 900 para educators Food Service Workers and custodians voted voted also to authorize a strike last week. They want the district to keep up with what the city pays for similar jobs, which they say is up to 25 higher. The in a statement, the district said, our employees are critical to creating an education environment where each and every student can learn and thrive. We want to reach an agreement that honors our employees contribution and ensures we are responsive stewarding public funds. There is another negotiation session scheduled for monday, but just. At a city council meeting, the mayor suggested novato adopt an ordinance similar to the one that was adopted in mill valley. It restricts where ebikes and scooters are used, banning them on trails and sidewalks. According to our Media Partners at the mic, most members support discussing that idea further. Upgrades are being made to better handle emerging situations as you know, weve reported on several incidents where vehicles have gotten stuck. They blocked traffic last week, a pedestrian got struck and hit in a hit and run. Maximum eclipse time is 9 20 a. M. Thats when about 77 of the sun will get obscured by the moon and that eclipse will end at 1042 tomorrow morning. So peek out. I think the south bay probably has the best chance of decent visibility through that cloud cover. But that cold front is going to cause us some issues as it moves through. There is going to be a closure on northbound 101 between whipple and britton avenues. This is a 55 hour closure. So again, if you drive in redwood city, keep that in mind. And you can see right now it is going to take you 14 minutes to get from westbound 92 from the toll plaza to foster city. Gloria, thank you. Israels military is telling people to evacuate the Northern Gaza Strip before midnight. Their time, which is about 7. 5 hours from now. The un says it considers such a Mass Movement impossible to take place without, quote, devastate humanitarian consequences. Is the order could signal an impending ground attack from israel. All but the military has not officially confirmed that. The un says nearly 425,000 people have now been displaced in gaza out of a population of about 2. 5 million. The Associated Press reports at least 2700 people have been killed in both israel and gaza. The crisis started saturday when the Hamas Terror Group launched a surprise assault on israeli citizens. The Us Government will Begin Operating evacuation flights today to help americans leave israel. At least 27 us citizens have been killed and us secretary of defense lloyd austin is in tel aviv this morning offering support to israel. Americas support for israel is ironclad and i extend my deepest condolences to the israeli people for those killed or wounded in this terrible slaughter by hamas. A second shipment of military aid from the us is arriving in israel today. The search continues for at least 17 us citizens who are believed to be in israel this morning. Ariel her family tells abc seven news she was in the Music Festival at the Music Festival in south israel celebrating her 40th birthday when hamas militants attacked. I told my brother, if i dont have a body for me, shes been kidnaped. Thats it. She made any contact that that, you know, she was taken out of the hostage or nothing except of you. Telephone calls from. People who threatening or call us and say that shes with them and they will rape her and they will kill her. And all this threats, nothing. The names of the hundreds of people who died at that festival have been released. And sharons name is not on that list. She is the only one out of her group who didnt escape death. Her family says they are remaining hopeful that someone will recognize her. Of course, this is an ongoing situation. You cant do both. Congressman jim jordan, the man, scalise beat for the nomination, appears to be throwing his name back into the ring. Sources say hes working the phones, asking members for support. The union has authorized one abc7 News Reporter lena howland live in San Francisco with what the teachers are demanding from contract negotiation. Lena well, more than 97 of San Francisco unified teachers voted to authorize a strike yesterday and theyre hoping to see things like pay benefits, prep time and what they are calling a skyrocketing Teacher Vacancy rate addressed. Now even though it was overwhelmingly approved, that does not mean the teachers are going to walk out, but it does now give Union Leaders the power to call one. After the strike was authorized, the district put out a new offer with a 10,000 raise for all credentialed teachers with a 4 raise. Nobody wants to go on strike. Teachers and educators dont want it. Parents and families dont want it. However in order to avoid a strike, sfusd must support our teachers and support staff and agree to a fair contract. Workers and custodians voted also to authorize a strike last week. They want the district to keep up with what the city pays for similar jobs, which they say is up to 25 higher. In a statement, the district said sfusd is working diligently and in good faith to reach an agreement with our labor partners.
