The mayor wants to make the volunteer reserve Police Officer program a paid program. Now, the plan needs to be approved by the San Francisco board of supervisors. Dan, thank you. A new effort to get tough on retail theft is launching in Alameda County. The District Attorneys Office today announced it received state funding to combat organized theft. Da pamela price says she will dedicate a total of 4 million to create a unit to specifically focus on organized retail theft. Its a first for the das office as we are having the opportunity to interrupt thefts at the lower level while at the same time focusing our efforts on how do we stop it through organized retail and how do we essentially choke off the demand side that is driving a lot of what we see happening in our communities. A total of 31 Police Departments across california also got state grants to help fight organized retail theft and crime, including campbell, fremont, newark, palo alto, San Francisco. San jose. San ramon and santa rosa. Meantime, a push to recall Alameda County da pamela price is underway. Safe or save alameda for everyone has until march 5th to gather more than 70,000 signatures to get the recall on the ballot. Authorities have released the identity of the man killed by police after driving into the chinese consulate on monday. Officers shot 31 year old zhang yuan yang of San Francisco after they say he drove his sedan through the building where dozens of people were inside. As you can see. Witnesses say yang got out of the car shouting about the Chinese Communist party. But the motive for the crash is still unclear. And theyre basically saying theres an 80 chance that el nino continues through spring, a 75 to 85 chance that this is going to be a strong event and a 3 in 10 chance, a 3 in 10 chance of a historically strong event that actually rivals those back in 97, 98 and 2015, 2016. One thing that they did point out is just because theyre expecting a strong event doesnt mean youre going to see strong impacts locally. Thats right, larry. This handheld device operates like a lasso inside. It has a cartridge like this that deploys a cord with sharp anchors at the end. And ill tell you, these are very sharp. The idea is officers would have it on hand as an alternative to using a taser baton or even a gun. So is it really safer . We asked experts on both sides. Im not going to jail. Youre going to get wrapped. No, the hospital wrap. Wrap, wrap. That was not a gunshot. But the deployment of whats called a bola wrap, a nonlethal alternative to a taser or gun or baton, its been described as kind of flying handcuffs. Well, what happens if their aim is off right, in a fast moving situation they ever had that happen . Heres another perspective. I mean, its the same narrative all the time. They are interested in making a profit. They are not interested in public safety. So theyre going to say whatever they need to in order to push their product forward. Williams points out the companys demonstrations online and in person show someone with their skin covered. Paula a welcome you know i could i could smell this from a mile away as soon as they brought them into the studios. Tell us about the empanadas. We also have what looks like a dessert here today. I sent the cocktail size and the large ones and you have the traditional chilean, the classic, which is called the classic beef classic pino because thats how we call the stuffing. And then you have one with merkin. Merkin is a spice from patagonia made by the mapuche people, which are the Indigenous People of chile. You have the chicken and the for the neighborhood and the mexican staff that has been so much part of my team. I made a cheese and jalapeno recipe. That was good. It is good. Its very good. I think i have a beef one. Its absolutely delicious. Yes. And i love the way you folded the dough to the pastry. Its really different. Yeah each one has a particular fold. The classic is the traditional fold from chile. Chilean empanadas are different from argentina beans, which you tend to see everywhere. Yeah, because they are large in chile, we have empanadas every sunday, and chileans made empanadas. They their national food. So you eat empanadas for the chilean independence, the argentinians, which we see a lot of in the bay area and the peruvians are a little smaller. And i always say the peruvians have the ceviche. The argentinians, the asada and the chileans, the empanadas that they eat with wine, because chile is also a big wine producing country. Wow. A lot of everything there. Can you talk about the sunday empanada making tradition . Is it a time for families to come together for. Yes yes. Chile is a catholic country. People go to church. Nobody wants to wash dishes. They pick up empanadas on the way home from church and, you know, of course, this is like not everyone. Theres this is the more traditional conservative families you could say, but thats usually been the tradition going to grandmothers, getting together, the family having empanadas and wine for lunch. Nice and chile lindo. Ive been with the business here for 28 years. On 16th and cap, which is where im located now. I just started my new kitchen, which is called chile lindo kitchen culture, which is literally right across the street from the location thats been around since 1973 called chile lindo. Its in changed hands three times now at the new kitchen, i have a location where people can come in and im beginning to have events. Im catering and im expanding the pastries, which. You have, which are also you have the traditional version version of alfajores, which i can see your tasting now. My gosh, is that hazelnut . Whatever is in this big cookie is amazing. Oh, yeah. Its dulce de leche uh, which we call in chile. Manjar uh and youre. Its beginning to get known a little bit more and more. Dulce de leche. The difference with our alfajores is that we make we, we, we need a way for rather than make a cookie. So the way is crisp and its dough and that is to wafers are put together like a ice cream sandwich. But instead its done with the dulce de leche. And then we roll it with coconut around it. Awesome. The States Office of Emergency Services is taking their earthquake simulator on ahead of the great california shakeout on october 19th, when at 1019 in the morning, schools, businesses and even folks at home will be asked to practice what it means to drop cover and hold on.
