Yeah, and dan and emma is just one more day for some of our bayside and inland communities of this heat. Let me show you a live picture. It was a picture perfect setting for the blue angels. Just nothing but blue skies, no fog and a record setting at that. Three cities actually tied their previous records. San jose, 95, oakland, downtown 93 and sfo 92 degrees. All right. It was hot elsewhere, as you will notice, 98 in fairfield, mid 90s for places like napa, santa rosa, concord, livermore, 97 in santa cruz, 95. In redwood city, it was 89 in fremont and 85 degrees in half moon bay. Right now were still feeling it. Its warm out there 80s and 90s. That heat advisory has been extended for one more day for areas shaded in orange until 11 p. M. Tomorrow as that heat risk will remain in the moderate to high category. Its an amazing sight today and tomorrow, expecting blue skies as well. Low to upper 70s in the early part of the day. Coming up to the 88 degree mark and then dropping off to about 70 degrees. But still clear for saturday. Ill show you whats changing on sunday. Alma. All right. And you can keep track of the temperatures with this same tools sandia uses. Now to developing news. It is the final day of a planned three day strike by kaiser employees. And its likely to end without a settlement today, were learning the Us Labor Department is getting involved to help bring an end to what is the Largest Health care strike in us history. Abc7 News Reporter hunter hassan spoke to the Union President today and joins us live on. Sir yeah, im a kaiser is now telling us that the next round of negotiations will begin on thursday. The Health Care WorkersUnion President says acting us labor secretary julie hsu will also be on hand. Shes already spoken to both sides, but some labor experts say theyre concerned that once the Biden Administration gets involved, that could be an advantage for kaiser. Yes, the president supports the strikers collective bargaining work. The union of Health Care Workers president dave reagan telling striking workers that President Biden is backing their cause. We got to run through the finish line, but we are winning this thing. Lets keep it up. Whos got the power . What kind of power . Union power. Reagan says there have been no negotiations since tuesday. Staffing levels remains one of the critical issues. At the core of everything is we just dont have enough people to do the job. Kaiser has refused to give us information that we believe were entitled to. Thats why we think this is whats called an unfair labor practice strike. Kaiser declined an interview request, saying it wont discuss details out of respect for the bargaining process. The union says the workload has increased , which impacts patient care. They want 10,000 new employees to be hired. In an email to abc seven news on tuesday. Kaiser claims the demand to hire 10,000 employees has been met. They say theyve filled 10,000 positions. If youre really careful, most of that is people who are doing internal transfers. Theyve not gotten there. Theyre parsing words. Its just not true. Do we want contract . What do we want it now . Reagan announced on friday to employees at kaiser walnut creek that acting us secretary of labor julie su is now getting involved. I think shes already begun to get involved and is playing a valuable role and i believe shell be willing to continue to be involved and help us get to an agreement when the government steps in, theyre stepping in effectively on the side of the employer. Professor robert, a union member himself, says the Us Department of labor is involvement may force kaiser back to the bargaining table. But he adds, when the government gets involved, it often forces workers to concede some of their demands. My concern here is that if they step in and pressure the union not to strike a second time, that they may not achieve their main demand. Still, reagan is optimistic that the end is in sight. Its not that its too complicated. Theres too many points of disagreement. It really is. This needs to be done. Lets do the right thing. We think we can have it done next week. Now, reagan says if negotiations fail next week, they are preparing for an even longer strike that will begin in november. Alma, and answer you spoke to the Union President and have been speaking to members of the Bargaining Team all week. How confident are they that can end this strike next week. Yeah. So a lot of the employees that i spoke with who are on the Bargaining Team say they are pretty confident. And i want to start by saying we did reach out to kaiser. They did not return requests for comment. So we dont know their position. But as you heard the president saying, the Union President saying theres not a lot left on the negotiating tables. These discussions began back in april, but the negotiations really didnt kick off until this week. And now with the department of labor on hand, they may have the places, the pieces in place to broker a deal. So well see what happens come next week. All right. The roaring sound that graces the San Francisco sky is back. The blue angels air show highlights fleet week, which residents say is one of San Franciscos main events. I love jets. I love the military. You know, walking around, i thought like, man, if i was younger, i wish i kind of wish i would have joined a branch. Sunnyvale resident brandon lichty is one of the many embracing the energy of the armed forces by braving out hot temperatures in San Francisco to celebrate an event that began over four decades ago. Im just taking it in. I dont even totally know what to expect because ive never been to an air show like this before. Its not just the navy. All Public Service groups showed the public a glimpse of what they do. Some showing if they have what it takes to be in the armed forces. As children sat inside plane cockpits, others learned life saving measures like cpr and some toured a mobile hospital, put up by the marines. The fact that that we can come out here and do this and tell our story and just participate in this great event as our service is with with the coast guard and the navy. Its really special for us. Fleet week officials are also honoring military members for their work in helping the community. At fridays ceremony. They are acknowledging christopher cox, a navy member who helped somebody who has been a victim of a stabbing earlier in the year in san diego. So there was a gentleman that was just bleeding out on the sidewalk. And so i went over to his aid and he was bleeding pretty badly. It kind of feels like a movie, honestly, when i think of jets in the golden gate, i just think of like, you know, godzilla or some type of movie where jets are flying around. So i think thats what im most excited for, is just experience that in real life. Well its not as destructive as a godzilla film, but given the fact its so picturesque and sunny along the bay shoreline, its easy to think why you would be in a movie this time of year. Also, fleet week officials are dedicating this weekend to the late senator Dianne Feinstein. We know how monumental she was in bringing the blue angels to San Francisco in the early 1980s. In San Francisco. Ryan curry, abc7 news. All right. Here are a few things you should know about the blue angels. They got their start back in 1946 and the team made its first flight that year in jacksonville, florida. The smoke you see from the jets isnt just for show. It also helps with safety, allowing the pilots to see one another while performing stunts. Just how close do the planes get to one another . How about eight 18in . This happens when they pull off a maneuver called the diamond 360, a fog can always be a factor, of course, in the bay area, in order to fly, the blue angels need at least three three nautical miles of visibility, and the cloud ceiling has to be at least 1300ft. You know, they are truly remarkable pilots and the pride of the us navy. Obviously, ive had the privilege to fly with them and i can tell you it was an intense and inspiring experience. Heres a picture of me in the cockpit many years ago before we took off. This was in the late 80s as the crew chief made sure i was buckled in safely. Moments later, we were really ripping through the sky and i got to do something they dont often get to do ama with the media flights, which was break the sound barrier over the ocean. And the best part, i literally had the stick and actually got to push it into mach one. Wow. Really an unforgettable experience. Yeah. What was it like with the gforces . You know, youve heard it described as like a giant weight on your chest. Thats an accurate description. Thats exactly what its like after roaring down the runway after takeoff, the pilot literally turned straight up and we pulled Something Like seven gs in, which is more than the Space Shuttle on liftoff. Its incredible. You have to push really hard not to pass out. But it was just amazing. Was there a barf bag used . There was one in the cockpit, but you didnt you didnt use it. Okay. I was very close, but i didnt use it. Im impressed. All right. Well, the blue angels are scheduled to perform around 3 p. M. Both tomorrow and sunday. We have the full schedule of fleet week events posted on our website. Just check it out on the front page of abc7 news. Com. All right. Lets go back and talk about the warm weather. Low 90s novato santa rosa still hot inland 97. Fairfield 94 in concord and livermore is at 90 degrees. Good day to be out on the beach. Although santa cruz did get up to 97 degrees today. Right now, cooler, obviously low 80s from San Francisco to oakland, 86 in mountain view, low 90s around san jose, palo alto, 89 degrees. Half moon bay. Youre getting that sea breeze. It is 81 right now. High pressure brought the heat today and the above average temperatures that we had expected. As you will notice on live doppler seven fog is well off the coast line. So we dont have our maritime influence to basically cool us off. But its coming back on sunday. So for the fleet week forecast, nice for the air show tomorrow, 88 degrees after a morning temperature of 63 sunday. The drop off in the temperature is very noticeable and there will be some fog, but i dont think the fog is going to be deep enough to where the blue angels will have any problems. They know how to get around it. Heres a look at the winds onshore right now, 19 miles an hour in San Francisco, 17 at sfo. So you will get some cooling tonight from our Golden Gate Bridge camera. Clear skies right now. Heat hangs around for one more day. Fog returns sunday. Breezy and cooler and much cooler on monday and showers coming in in the afternoon and evening tonight in case you are stepping out for friday night plans. Little short sleeve weather can still do it. Look at this 70s and 80s at 7 00, 9 p. M. Those temperatures are still in the comfort zone as we head towards tomorrow morning. You do get good sleeping weather for most of you, at least inland. You have ac around parts of the bay and coast. You dont have ac. Its sometimes hard to sleep as we go towards tomorrow afternoon, the beaches will run cooler. Only 70 for places like half moon bay, but inland areas will pop up into the 90s once again your morning temperatures upper 50s to the mid 60s, mild and clear to start the day tomorrow afternoon in the south bay. We are talking about 95. In san jose, 98 degrees in morgan hill on the peninsula, 88 in palo alto, 89 in san mateo, 78 degrees in half moon bay. Its not going to be the 80s that you had today, 88 in San Francisco, low 84 in the sunset district, north bay. Temperatures plenty of 80s and 90s, 94 in san rafael 95 degrees for you in santa rosa , 92. Vallejo in the east bay, 88. In oakland, 87. Berkeley 91 for you in fremont. The accuweather seven day forecast hot inland warm bay cooler with fog and then we bring in some wet weather. Much cooler inland monday with a level one system tuesday, the chance continues. By the way, San Francisco downtown the official censor has been down since yesterday, which is why were not reporting the official temperature, but almond dan it was in the 80s and 90s. The voices is filling the theater at San Franciscos Deyoung Museum are members of native communities indigenous to california. Their unique perspective and urgent warning about Climate Change are captured in both moving pictures and still portraits by photographer curtis essendine. We believe that the Climate Change is a depletion of mother earth and its resources and they are the stewards of this land. You know, the exhibit is called contemporary indigenous voices of californias south coast range. Bassendyne met us as the exhibit was still being installed. She hopes the subjects will translate their wisdom to a wider audience. The very, very deep conversations that left it open for their knowledgeable, you know, their wisdom. We first met one of the subjects tribal chairman valentin lopez, during a report on the fire ravaged santa cruz mountains. Thats where chairman lopez and other members of the amah mutsun community were sharing native knowledge about ceremonial burns and managing healthier forests. Our history did not start with the missions. Our people were here for thousands of years, and our ancestors were scientists. And they have a lot of very significant knowledge for all people to learn from other indigenous tribal members share that wisdom as well. You know, you just follow. You follow your generations, goes back far enough for indigenous people. Climate change is really the desecration and the depletion of our mother earth. People need to learn from the tribal people about how to take care of mother earth. They are voices with echoes of an ancient past carrying messages in the age of Climate Change that could have a profound effect on our future. Yeah, and its spiritual. Its everything, you know, and its urgent. Its an urgent message that we have to Work Together for the good of our communities and our planet. The exhibit contemporary indigenous voices of californias south coast range opens this weekend at the deyoung. Admission is free, and as you can tell, it is very thought provoking. Yeah, worth checking out. Yeah, for sure. All right, lets get to the weather and how long this heat is staying around. Meteorologist sanjay patel is updating the forecast. And yeah, i am indeed. And you may be done with the heat, but the heat is not done with you just yet. One more day. Okay alma and dan, lets take a look at live doppler seven. Fog is nowhere to be found, but it will be back as early as tomorrow, going into sunday. And that means the beaches begin to cool tomorrow. Upper 70s in places like half moon bay, but still warm to hot elsewhere. Low 80s and 90s. Now on sunday you will notice the cooldown because everybody is going to see a drop in their temperatures by monday. Its a completely different day. I mean, most of you only in the 60s and 70s. And as you check out whats ahead, a cold front comes in bringing us some showers monday afternoon, evening, another system coming through here on tuesday. And that gives us another opportunity for some wet weather. So on the accuweather seven day forecast, temperatures going down, down, especially sunday, monday, level one system for monday, bringing us the wet weather continuing chance of some showers on tuesday before we go back to dry and a little bit milder dan and excellent. All right. Thanks, andy. All right, larry is here. Sports, larry. Yeah, big game. Absolutely. Yeah. The 49 ers always looking to get a little bit better, maybe kind of a surprising move today. They acquire a former cowboys pass rusher just a few days before theyre playing the cowboys. Thats next kevin, what does being the ceo of cashbacking mean to you . He is joining the red and gold. Now he signed a five year 70 million deal with the broncos as a free agent. But denver, they were going to cut him. They said he was not a good fit. There the niners trade a sixth round pick in next years draft to get gregory and they get a seventh rounder from denver back in return plus the broncos are going to pay him 10 million to leave while the niners are just paying the veterans minimum. Gregory you remember he had some suspension issues earlier in his career due to marijuana, but that was a long time ago. But you play him opposite nick bosa. That could be a nightmare for quarterbacks. Gregory is not playing sunday against dallas. Hell rejoin the team on monday. Christian mccaffrey scored a touchdown in 13 straight games. That is a 49 ers record. And if he scores this sunday, cmc will become the first niners since roger craig back in 1985 with a td in weeks one through five. Now the niners have knocked dallas out of the playoffs twice in a row and mccaffrey says past results may not factor into future outcomes. Any time you look at a game from the years past, you know, maybe itll be similar, maybe it wont be. But i try not to go into games predicting anything, you know, you just you have your tracks, you have your reads, you know where to put your eyes, you know, your assignment. And then after that, its, you know, you just got to react and play extremely instinctually and go from there. Are you so good . Niners four and zero. Dallas three and one. Dak prescott says the cowboys struggles with the niners the past two years in the postseason makes this game really feel much more important for dallas as dak has spent more time this week with x niner qb trey lance, who is now one of the backups in big d. Trey has been very helpful. Honestly i havent spent time there just in the way that their defense can move certain calls that they may have to make when we put them in certain positions and things that you kind of see on film. But getting some some definitive answers from him in the way that they did things. Yeah, its been been very helpful. Losing to the same team twice in the playoffs is no good feeling. So i mean, its a man on man matchup and were going to go out there and were going to do our best and put our best foot forward. Should be fun. X giant hunter pence made quite the entrance to the Construction Industry luxury, which raises money for the boy scouts every year. Emcee the event at the hilton San Francisco union square as hunter came stride in and this is what we used to see him in San Francisco going to the game so made perfect sense. Asked him who the giants retires their next manager. You know, well be talking with and hopefully able to help make that decision and make a good one. And for me, the decision would be who do i think gives us the best chance to be the best team we can over the long haul . Who is the greatest mind and lets get someone whos excited to be here, whos enthusiast to be here, whos on the leading edge of thinking in baseball, but also who has, you know, the human element. I tell you what, hunter is such a great public speaker. He had the audience mesmerized, telling the story of his life and how he made it to the majors. All right. We still really do not know what the relationship is between chiefs star travis kelce and taylor swift, but she keeps showing up at his games in the suite with kelseys mom. And kelsey says hes kind of getting used to seeing even more cameras around him. Were learning with the paparazzi just taking photos from from all over the place. But at the same time, its, you know, it comes with it. It comes with it. Youve got a lot of people that care about taylor and for good reason. So its, you know, just just got to keep living and learning and enjoying the moments. So is it are they dating . Is it friend zone . We dont know. Everybodys got some thought. You guys have any opinions . What do you think . I cant imagine its friend zone. I wouldnt think so. Well, but you know what nobody wants that look. Yeah. Youre not going to sell any papers. Whats interesting is that they show her so often on the broadcast. Think about this for the nfl, they got the guys. And if you could get the swifties on top of the normal nfl audience, thats for sure. Oh, its just they can make even more money. Even more money. Even more money. Thats exactly what they need. That is exactly thats exactly what theyre going for. Thanks, larry. All right. All right. Tonight on abc seven, shark tank begins at eight, followed by 2020 at nine. Finally this friday a few thoughts about what really matters as we watch the blue angels rip across the sky today, we are reminded that that it was the late senator Dianne Feinstein who was instrumental in bringing fleet week to San Francisco as mayor in 1981. She was laid to rest yesterday in a private funeral shortly after a public memorial that was a moving reflection of the woman who hundreds came to honor at San Francisco city hall. Like feinstein herself, the ceremony was appropriate and dignified. Two words we dont seem to be able to use very often in politics. These days. Heres another civility in an era of insulting and shouting down your opponent, Dianne Feinstein stayed above the nasty fray. Tough for sure, but always dignified. What really matters is that an important part of Dianne Feinsteins legacy is not about her politics or her party. Its about not only what she did, but how she did it. A trailblazer who cut a path of personal conduct that more politicians and the rest of us, for that matter, should follow. I always love to hear from you. Let me know what you think.
