An urgent manhunt is underway this morning for a convicted killer who escaped a prison near philadelphia. Families remain on edge after he was spotted over the weekend on a home surveillance camera. A massive manhunt in the air and on the ground for pennsylvania prison escapee Danilo Cavalcante on the run since he broke out of the Chester County prison last thursday morning. At the time, considered extremely dangerous. Remain inside. Lock your doors, lock your cars, Authorities Say cavalcante escaped exactly one week after he was sentenced to life without parole for the stabbing death of his ex girlfriend. Deborah brandao, 38 times in front of her two young children. The search focusing on a Rural Residential area in suburban pocopson township, about 38 miles southwest of philadelphia and about a mile and a half from the prison. Its where investigators believe hes hiding out. Its a heavily wooded area, consists of over 271 homes and its not easy for our investigators to get through. Cavalcante was last seen early saturday on a home surveillance camera tiptoeing through someones backyard. And this was his last spotting, though Authorities Say there were more than 100 tips related to his possible whereabouts, including a number of home break ins that cavalcante may have carried out. I just cant believe it. And i really hope that they catch him soon. I hope everybodys paying attention and locking their doors and staying alert. Prison Officials Say theyre still investigating how cavalcante escaped, but they dont believe he had any help in that surveillance video. Abc news has learned the defense team for alec murdoch, the disgraced former South Carolina attorney, found guilty of murdering his wife and son will hold a press conference this tuesday about their plans to appeal that conviction. Mr. Murdoch, i sentence you to the state department of corrections on each of the murder indictments in march, murdoch was convicted of shooting and killing his wife, maggie, and youngest son, paul. They were shot multiple times. Murdoch is currently serving a life sentence. His lawyers already filed notice. They planned to challenge his guilty verdict, but havent yet laid out their legal argument. In an interview just this week, murdoch attorney jim griffin saying as part of their appeal, his team interviewed jurors in the case looking for bias, saying there are serious questions as to whether this jury was subject to outside influences during the case. The appeals are extraordinarily difficult to win. The question that im sure the counsel for alex murdoch in this appeal is going to argue is theres no way that this small town down in South Carolina where this family had such a prominent name there wasnt a person in the area that didnt know the murdoch name similar claims about an allegedly tainted jury were made by murdochs eldest son, buster, in a new fox nation docu series, the fall of the house of murdoch. Its an absolutely excruciatingly difficult experience breaking his silence. Buster also saying he doesnt think his dad killed his mother and brother, but adding he believes his father has some psychopathic qualities. Im not prepared to sit here and say that it encompasses him as a whole, but certainly i think there are characteristics where you look at the manipulation and the lies and the carrying out of that such, and i think thats a fair assessment.
