The fire at an old historic theater in pittsburgh is under control. You can see the flames and smoke billowing in this footage. Flames at the abandoned building on east 10th street before 4 30. Residents at a home nearby were ordered to evacuate. Fire officials asked people to avoid the area while they worked to contain the smoke. Out of maui, the death toll the catastrophic wildfires is now at 80. Authorities believe the number could go up as crews searched for more victims. Authorities announced the number last night, another fire sparked on the west side of the island. It prompted more evacuations. The fire is now 100 contained. More than 2000 structures were damaged or destroyed in the fire that ravaged lahaina. That fire is 80 controlled. We are also learning this morning that records show the state of hawaii misjudged wildfire dangers. Some residents said they have to waken wait another week to see if other items can be recovered from their homes. Police wont let us go to our home. We lived in the same house for 50 years. Since 1971. I wanted to go down there to if anything was left. But they wont let us. Firefighters are working around the clock to put those flames out. Fire victims are scrambling to get the resources they need to live. Becky worley talks to those working to put the pieces of their lives back together. I in a supplies, all gray, smoking, charred. People are showing up to houses and making sure people are home, not home, and making sure the community is coming together. The view shows how powerful the fire was. Charring even the boats on front street. I have been asking my friends, especially for the babies. They are just seeing what happened to their home. They escaped with their kids. The house is now rubble. So far, nothing to salvage. We dont know how we are going to live, we dont know how to start over again. Outside the evacuation zone, survival is often dependent on the kindness of others. In some places, water is the easiest way in. There was no communications. The power failed and cell phones did not work. There wasnt really any food at the hotel because of the power. They stood in line at this Grocery Store getting food and ice. But the couple says living through the 2017 north bay wildfires taught them to be calm and vigilant. From being in the thunderosa fires and the strong winds, we slept in the hotel lobby taking shifts. Then they made a choice to head to the airport in their rental car. With lahaina in flames, the main road was closed. Locally we came back to the hotel, so we followed it the other way. Took a back road that basically every local told us not to take. It took us around three h but it was a very scary road. They made it and got a flight to honolulu where they spoke with us from the airport. With no return flights available to the bay area, they flew back to maui, where the tsa line was long. A small price to pray after maui suffered unimaginable loss and tragedy. Our hearts go out to the people of lahaina, the families that lost their homes. The families and people that lost their lives. In the north bay, cornell barnard. Researchers in the bay area are working to save coral reefs, a threatened they say climate impacts sparked efforts from florida all the way to San Francisco as Ocean Temperatures rise. Researchers from the California Academy of sciences are bringing the coral reefs two on four nurseries and they are put on top of small nesting platforms that operate as anchorreefs to help them grow out. The goal is to reintroduce coral reefs back into damaged habitats and help them survive extreme conditions. Experts say the rise in Ocean Temperatures has been destroying the species. It is happening faster than we expected. It is really a call to action. We know the things we have to do.
