But first the latest on former President Donald Trump pleading not guilty to four felony counts. The special counsel saying he engaged in a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election even though the indictment said he knew he had lost. Trump is now released on bond. Pierre thomas starts us off. Thursdays hearing a dramatic sign that the legal drama about trumps role on january 6th is now fully engaged with the stakes incredibly high. This morning former President Trump released on bond under specific conditions set forth by a federal magistrate including he must not communicate about the facts of the case with anyone trump knows to be a witness except through his counsel. On thursday, trump returning to the nations capitol, not as president , but as an accused criminal waving as he stepped off his plane at Reagan National airport on his way to the most significant arraignment in american history, attempting to remain in power even though he knew he lost the election. His motorcade driving through an underground garage, out of the sight of onlookers lining the street. Inside the courthouse, the former president was processed. He was not placed in handcuffs and there was no mug shot taken. Authorities deeming it unnecessary because hes one of the most photographed men in the world. His fingerprints taken and his personal information recorded. The arraignment described as routine, though the defendant and the charges are anything but. Just before 4 p. M. On thursday, trump entered large courtroom on the second floor to appear before a federal magistrate already inside federal prosecutors and special counsel jack smith off to the side. Flanked by his attorneys at the defense table, the former president looking around the room at one point staring directly at jack smith the two face to face for the First Time Since june 13th. He had to wait for over 20 minutes before the judge entered the courtroom and the case was announced. The United States of america versus donald j. Trump. After he was sworn in, the judge requesting trump say his full name and his age, 77. The judge then reading the charges, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, specifically the january 6th certification of the election results. Obstruction and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights to deprive people of their right to vote and to have their votes counted. Standing, trump pleading not guilty to each of those counts. As he has to every charge hes faced. Each count carrying a maximum of up to 5 to 20 years in prison. The hearing taking just under 30 minutes. Also in the courthouse Capitol Police officers harry done and Police Officer Daniel Hodges who was pinned between two doors on january 6th as rioters entered the capitol. Telling us they were there as citizens just to see justice served blaming the former president for inciting the riot with his words. Its a necessary step on the road to path to justice and accountability. It was good to see former President Trump facing accountability just like any other person in this country would if they committed the crimes that he did. Reporter the most consequential case ever brought by the department of justice will ultimately be heard by judge tukin who has delivered some of the most serious sentences in connection to january 6th. Trump quickly leaving the way he came, heading back to the airport before taking off to new jersey. Trump speaking from the tarmac in the rain. This is the persecution of the person thats leading by substantial numbers in the republican primary and leading biden by a lot. So if you cant beat him you persecute him or prosecute him. The case now moves forward inching closer to a jury who will decide whether donald trump is a victim of a political witch hunt or rogue president who tried to steal an election that he lost. Whit . Lets bring in dan abrams. Dan, good morning. Great to have you. One of the conditions that trump signed as part of his release was to not communicate with any potential witnesses. We saw walt nauta holding his umbrella. Hes indicted in the documents case. Mike pence, he could be on a debate stage with him next month. How does this work . Its not communicate with them about the case. Yes. Right. Thats very specific and very important in the context of the rules here. Now, it is an interesting question about what would happen in the context of a debate. They could debate this issue. They could discuss this issue on the stage. They will be asked about it. So if they do end up on the same stage, one of the exceptions is you can do it in the presence of counsel, right . Do you include one of the lawyers in the audience . As a practical matter, if anyones concerned about it, they would go to the cower and say, hey, were having a debate about this. The issue may come up. Im sure the court would give them permission. Anything beyond that conversations he had with walt nauta or others. Remember, someone has to report it. It has to be public for anyone to raise the issue. And thats the other question is putting aside the public nature of a debate, in a private conversation who would be the one to actually go to the court and say, by the way, we ended up talking about it . The other big question is the timing of this. The special counsel wants a speedy trial. Is that going to happen . The big question is, does this happen before election day . Right. Thats the cutoff date. There is no doubt that the special counsel wants this case to happen soon. Certainly, well before the election. Theres no doubt that the trump team wants this to happen after the election. Thats going to be very much in the purview of the judge. Well see how quickly she moves this thing. But just over half, 52 of americans, think the former president should have been charged with a crime in this case, with 49 saying trump should suspend his president ial campaign. Now, as expected, we are seeing the Typical Party line divide. When it comes to those critically important independent voters we are seeing an 11 point jump in the numbers who see this indictment as serious compared to the previous indictment regarding classified documents. Video circulating online showing what appears to be a sea drone bearing down on the vessel. This morning the navy warship seen limping into port, being towed. Ukraine not publicly saying its responsible, but security sources confirming to abc news they carried out the attack together with the Ukrainian Navy claiming the drone was packed with almost 1,000 pounds of explosives. The war ship was on recently pulled back into what was supposed to be safe russian waters. Once again drones showing fewer and fewer places are now safe for russia. Rebecca . Law enforcement sources told abc news they have now been able to identify a new victim in this series of killings named for the Long Island Beach where the bodies were found. Later this morning authorities in suffolk county, new york, are expected to reveal the identity of a seventh victim known as jane doe number 7 whose remains were found in 1996 and latered linked to other Human Remains Found near gilgo beach in 2011. So far authorities have not connected this victim to rex heuermann. Sources say heuermann is expected to soon be charged in sets of human remains. Rebecca, prosecutors have submitted a request to the court to obtain more dna to heuermann to see if he can be linked to any of these other deaths to gilgo beach or any other murders around the country. Rebecca. Aaron, thank you. Whit . Turning to the two navy sailors charged with spying for china, accused of passing along National Defense secrets in exchange for cash. The arrests were part of what federal officials fell me is a brazen and expanding etch for the by chinese spies at recruiting u. S. Military personnel to steal defense secrets. Prosecutors say the 26yearold sailor gave his chinese handler information regarding the defense and weapons capabilities of u. S. Navy ships as well as potential vulnerabilities of these ships. Prosecutors say he handed over information as recently as this week. Now, he faces espionage charges. The other sailor 26yearold way singh chow sold photographs of diagrams of a u. S. Military radar system in japan, as well as precise operational details about an up coming Navy Exercise in the pacific. Zhou is charged with conspiracy and taking bribes. Both of the suspects have pleaded not guilty and officials tell me theres no evidence at this point that they were coerced. Both cases the doj tells me the motive appears to be financial. Bryan kohbergers attorneys say his alibi will prove not where he was, but where he wasnt, the crime scene. Bryan kohbergers the man accused of killing four Idaho College students offering an alibi claiming he was in his car when the murders happened. Kohbergers attorney saying mr. Kohberger has had a long habit of going for drives alone. Often he would go at night. However, he is not claiming to be in a specific location at a specific time and that there is not a specific witness to say precisely where he was. When a defendant puts forth an alibi it is something or someone who can identify them in some place other than the scene of the crime. In this particular case his alibi he was driving alone does not give a precise thing or person that can place him somewhere else. Thats the question the judge must determine, is whether or not that it can actually be used as an alibi. Reporter last week the Court Required him to stay where he was on the night the students were murdered. The defense says they will use witness testimony during trial to show his where abouts. The defense is attempting to say they can prove that this alibi of him driving alone can be substantiated by witnesses who will be put on by trial. This is contradictory in the fact that typically an alibi is a particular place, an item or someone that can identify you at a current place or time. Reporter in june the defense asked prosecutors to turn over cell phone data which allegedly showed kohberger at the crime scene. They also want to know about evidence placing his white hyundai near the crime scene along with relevant genetic testing. They say three other male dna profiles were found at the scene. But the state says kohbergers dna taken from a cheap swab is a statistical match found on the knife discovered under madison. Kohberger charged with four counts of first degree murder and one count of burglary, remaining in silent. The judge pleading not guilty on his behalf. Kohbergers next hearing scheduled for august 18th. The trial is scheduled to begin october 2nd. Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty, eva. Mola, thank you. Rebecca . Okay, thank you, eva. On thursday morning i sat down with the three lizzo accusers and their attorney and they gave more information about what they say was a hostile Work Environment while on tour with the pop star. You can see a public figure and all you know is what they present when the cameras are on and rolling. Reporter this morning lizzs accusers speaking out reacting to the grammy winners response to the lawsuit shes facing. The truth hurts singer writing on instagram these sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional. He also provided video to abc news which appears to show plaintiff ariana davis filmed in april after the time these events allege dzedly occurred praising her former employer. The sun bear has fairly loose skin to begin with. That loose skin enables it to get away easier. Reporter these bears are the smallest, about the size of a large dog standing up to 50 inches tall on their hind legs. Compare that to grizzlies which get up to 9 feet tall. He was not placed in handcuffs and there was no mug shot taken. Authorities deeming it unnecessary because hes one of the most photographed men in the world. His fingerprints taken and his personal information recorded. The arraignment described as routine, though the defendant and charges are anything but. Just before 4 p. M. On thursday, trump entering a large courtroom on the second floor to appear before a federal magistrate. Already inside, federal prosecutors and special counsel jack smith himself off to the side. The judge then reading the charges, conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, specifically the january 6th certification of the election results. Obstruction and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights to deprive people of their right to vote and to have their votes counted. Standing, trump himself pleading not guilty to each of those counts as he has to every charge hes faced. Each count carrying a maximum of up to 5 to 20 years in prison. The hearing taking just under 30 minutes. Before taking off from new jersey, trump speaking from the tarmac in the rain. This is the persecution of the person thats leading by very very substantial numbers in the republican primary, and leading biden by a lot. Derian sutton is here with more. I texted you when my child had rsv. Who is the shot for and when will we have it . This is a new tool to protect against rsv. Respiratory sensation virus. As you know, weve discussed, it sends 50,000 to 80,000 children to the hospital each year. The way that it works is it provides protective antibodies in the form of a single shot, meant to be given to kids under 8 months. An additional shot can be given for high risk children, for example those immunocompromised between 8 months and 19 months. Its estimated to be up to 80 effective in preventing what we fear the most, those hospitalizations. We expect for it to be out ahead of this rsv season. Lets talk about these symptoms. Kids are sick all the time. Runny nose. You dont always know what that means. For most rsv causes symptoms of the common cold. Cough, congestion, runny nose but some it can lead to respiratory distress. Every parent thats been in the er with rsv remembers it. It requires aggressive intervention. Often required a mig for those children who are the youngest. Whats your advice to parents . I think this is a good deal. I think personally this is a break through in science. When we talk about vaccines, this is different. Vaccines help build up immunity to create antibodies. This is providing those children those antibody. This morning were hearing from her family and Erielle Reshef has the story. Good morning, erielle. The family said the mother twof was feeling dehydrated so she did what seemed logical. Drank a large amount of water trying to replenish her system but that ended in tragedy and they want everyone to know the signs. This morning the family of 35yearold mother of two ashley summers speaking out to warn others after she passed away over the 4th of july weekend from what doctors tell them was water intoxication. At one point during the day she started getting a bad headache. So she was drinking a lot of water. Reporter ashleys brother saying she was spending the holiday at the lake with her family when she started to feel intensely dehydrated, so she drank the equivalent of four 16 ounce bottles of water in just 20 minutes. Thats the amount doctors say an average adult woman should consume in an entire day. She felt dizzy and had this headache. They got home. She walked across the garage to go into the house and she passed out in the garage. You really cant go wrong with this classic. But there is a debate. Chewy or crispy . Chewy or crispy . What is it . [ cheers ] we have team chewy over here. [ cheers ] and we are team crispy exactly. And here to show us how to make these delicious versions of both chewy and crispy we have author of every Day Celebrations from scratch maria provanzano is here. Welcome to you. [ cheers ] and tik tok star and author of the new cookbook baking yesteryear which just debuted number one on the New York Times best seller list. Dylan hollis. Welcome. All right. Welcome. Maria, were going to start with you. Youre going into the chewy. Were getting into the brown butter. Walk me through it. Brown butter basically magic. Brown butter, you just melt it on the stove and cook it a little extra longer until you get the brown bits. I can smell it, too, yes. That adds like a caramel, nutty flavor. Its not Chocolate Chip Cookies without sugar. We have our white sugar. What makes it extra special is extra brown sugar. Add those in there. So then im going, because im using melted butter, im going to get this over to you. Ready . When doing this because i have melted butter, im adding more air into it using the whisk. Thats what i recommend. We are using the melted butter. Now we have Room Temperature egg. Okay. How can i help . Look at you. Come on. Then we have our vanilla. You need our beautiful gourmet vanilla extract. Okay. You can go over the whisk. Heres the thing. This is what makes it extra special and chewy. Double zero italian flour. Different flour. When it comes to flour, you want yours, for this one to make it chewy, this is the same flour theyre using with pasta and pizza in italy. The italians know their flour, guys. Yes, they do. Baking powder, baking soda. There we go. Were ready for chewy. Mix it up and then just add that in. Im going to use the risk. Do you want to whisk while i add the chocolate . Absolutely. It is ready to whisk. Lets do it. We have our dark chocolate and milk chocolate. Im just going to dump it in. Just dump it in there. I like to use the chocolate you have to chop up. You can see here it adds chocolate all throughout the cookies. Thats perfect, whit. If you want to go over here, you can see the chocolate. It spreads out everywhere. Big pools of chocolate. What i do, i pop it into the fridge for about 20 minutes to let it all just kind of chill out. Thats an important step, right . You got to let it chill. I never do that. I didnt know about that. Add our chocolate on the top and sea salt, bake it at 350 an its pure heaven. Whats your baking time . Lot of bake time. It will depend how cold these are, but i would say nine to ten minutes. Okay. That was chewy. [ cheers ] cheers for the chewy. Its really good. Lets go team crispy. [ cheers ] you have a special ingredient in your crispy chocolate chip. That is something that sounds amazing. You use potato chips . Thats right. The dame of the 1970s. This recipe originates from the 1970s. We do. Well be using an entire bag of potato chips in this recipe. Makes it very low calorie. We dont talk about calories. You use brown and white sugar. Yes. Well be starting here with our melted butter. We do have our brown sugar. Brown sugar adds moisture which is good for a chewy cookie but if you want crispy use higher proportion of granulated white sugar, or just use all white sugar. Thats what my mom does. Really thin and crispy. Yeah. [ cheers ] we start as per usual here. Were not looking for air. Were just looking to incorporate this. When you guys added air. No air added here if you want a crispy cookie. Thats good to know. Ill have you add in two eggs and vanilla to this. Two eggs, vanilla. Take notes, chewy. Well dump this into our flour. This is baking soda. Can we talk about baking soda versus whats the other one . Baking powder. Yes. You use both, right . Power for puff, soda for spread. Baking soda aids in a myard reaction which causes that caramelization, that brown crispy. [ cheers ] if you want a crispy cookie, add more baking soda or replace the baking powder recipes with baking soda. So we add that in there. If i use baking powder i would get a more cakey cookie. A cakey, chewy cookie, which is good. But im team crispy. Here we have. The star of the show. Star of the show. Half bag of potato chips. Do you have a chip of choice . Anything ruffles and salted. Were going to add this here. Mix that up. Isnt that nice . We do not use a blender . No. Isnt that marvelous . You incorporate that. [ cheers ] we go with smaller chips. You thought we were done with the potato chips . No, i didnt. I knew there was more. To make this further crispy, were going to roll them in chips again. Now for your outer crispy coating. I love that. Paying attention. Yeah. Were going to bake at 350 for 11 minutes on a greased baking sheet. 350 for 11 minutes. Team crispy, what do we think .
