This morning, dozens of lawmakers are pushing to make former president trumps federal trial televised. 40 democrats have signed this letter to the federal judiciary, writing, given the historic nature of the charges brought forth in these cases, it is hard to imagine a more powerful circumstance for televised proceedings. The former president made his First Court Appearance yesterday after the grand jury indicted him on felony charges over allegations that he and his allies plotted to overturn the 2020 election and eventually leading to the january 6th attack on the capitol. Its a necessary step on the road, the path to justice and accountability officers who defended the capitol on january 6th were in court for trumps hearing. Its the beginning of a long process, a process that we have been waiting for more than two years and a half. On january 6th, we already knew who directed the attack in the mob onto the capitol. The charges against trump include conspira to defraud the us and conspiracy against rights, meaning he allegedly tried to stop people from exercising their right to vote if convicted on all charges, trump could face more than 50 years in prison. When asked for his plea, trump stood as special counsel jack smith looked on and said not guilty to all counts. This is a persecution of a political opponent. This was never supposed to happen in america. Trump was released on conditions including that he not discuss this case with anyone who may be a witness. Such a witness could be former Vice President mike pence. Trump allegedly pressured pence to stop the certification of the election. Both men could come face to face later this month, on august 23rd, if they participate in the first republican primary debate. That debate is just five days before the next hearing. In trumps case, prosecutor have requested a speedy trial, but trumps lawyers say they need time to review a massive amount of evidence. The judge responded, promising trump will get a fair trial. Prosecutors say wei, a sailor on the uss essex, sent a chinese spy details about the defense and weapons capabilities of navy ships and information on ship movement. Authorities say wei was paid at least 5,000 for selling technical manuals, blueprints, photos and videos of the essex. This is part of a Brazen Campaign by the peoples republic of china to target us military officials and 26 year old sailor wenhong zhao, stationed at a naval base in ventura county, is charged with conspiracy and taking bribes. Authorities say over the course of nearly two years, he sold photos, graphs of diagrams of a us military radar system in japan, as well as precise operational details about an upcoming naval exercise rise.
