First, we want to get to the new indictment of former President Donald Trump, accused of conspireing to overturn the results of the 2020 election. He will be in Court Thursday charged with trying to destroy the democracy he wants to leave. The special counsel accusing him to support a criminal scheme to stay in power. He has two cases set for next spring. More charges of trying to overturn the election in georgia expected mid month. Nothing like this has precedent in america history. We have full Team Coverage this morning. Pierre thomas starts us off. Good morning, perhaps the most consequentle case in the history of the Justice Department, donald trump accused of trying to steal an election he lost. This morning, the special counsel indicting donald trump and using blistering language in the process. First claiming that trump lost the election, knew it, lied about it and then sought to block the peaceful transfer of power to biden. The attack on our nations capitol january 6th, 2021, was unprecedented assault on the seat of american democracy. It is described in the indictment, it was fuelled by lies. According to the indictment, trump lost the 2020 election but was determined to remain in power. The special counsel says he enlisted the indictment doesnt name them but abc news has identified some of them and likely include trumps attorneys. The 45 page, four count indictment accuses trump of conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, specifically the certification of the results, showing biden had won. Next, trump is accused of obstruction of an official proceeding and aiming to divide the people of the right to vote and have votes count. In spreading lies, the special counsel says trump worked to create Intense National atmosphere of mistrust and anger and erode public faith in the process of the election. Going state by state, accusing trump of using fake electors in seven states, trying to compel the election department, pressuring Vice President pence to reject votes on january 6th and sending people to the capitol and exert pressure on the Vice President. Were going to walk down to the capitol because youll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong. We fight. We fight like hell and if you dont fight like hell, youre not going to have a country anymore. Key leaders in trumps administration, including his own attorney general, Homeland Security advicsors lost but he pushed the socalled big lie. His attorneys said they were conducted on advice of lawyers and he didnt believe he had lost the election. The reality is, everything mr. Trump requested to be done was done with the advice of counsel, done with lawyers giving him advice, those lawyers are going to come in and testify. I would like them to try to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that donald trump believed that these allegations were false. Still some legal experts argue one wouldnt be able to rely on attorney advice if they were working with trump. The pressure he put on republican state officials, pushing the secretary of state of georgia to find the votes he needed. Look, all i want to do is this, i just want to find votes which is one more than we have because we won the state. Prosecutors allege trumps criminal scheme culminated on january january 6th with what they call the chaos at the capitol. Trump is defiant and mocks the new charges, saying the special counsel is piling on and called the indictment quote ridiculous. Former President Trump has been summoned to appear tomorrow afternoon and placed under arrest for a third time and stand before a judge to enter a plea of not guilty. Were unlikely to see very much of him. He can enter underground and there are no cameras in federal court. More than 1,000 defendants charged on january 6th are being prosecuted at this same courthouse. The judge assigned to trumps case has been especially tough on january 6th defendants, handing down prison sentences sometimes longer than recommended. She previously denied trump when trying to keep documents from the january 6th Congressional Committee and wrote president s are not kings. For trump, this pattern of indictment, surrender and arraignment is familiar. He faces criminal charges in three cases and a fourth, george, is looming in georgia later this month. Dan, is it fair to say this case is going to boil down to can Donald Trumps lawyer convince jurors he believed the lies he was telling about the 2020 election . To a large degree. The prosecution still has to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. If Donald Trumps lawyers can pose doubt, questions about did donald trump actually believe this. His position almost certainly is going to be yeah, i was told by some people that the election was over. Yeah, i was told there was no voter fraud. I didnt believe them. I believed other people who were telling me, a, i had a legal right to do what i was doing and b, i believed those people telling me in various states there were irregularities, etc cetera. The problem is, is that reasonable considering all of the factors coming in and most importantly, did donald trump ever say specifically that he knew he lost, according to the indictment, the answer is yes. What is going on in the inner circle right now . They are all out this is the campaign. This is a campaign to keep him out of jail. This is a campaign, hes calling it the retribution campaign. But he faces legal jeopardy almost every where, this is different. This is qualitatively different. Donald trump here is being charged with a betrayal of his oath of office, a betrayal of the American People, the most serious charge depravation of rights. What rights . The rights of the American People to have their votes count. Outside of a president selling out america to a foreign power, it is hard to imagine a more serious allegation. It seems to me, the biggest question as i read the indictment, what took so long . Theres very little new in the indictment. We have known about much of this and saw it play out in the january 6th hearings, i wrote a book about a lot of what is in the indictment almost two years ago. Why did it take so long. And how long will it take to get to trial . You heard him say he wants a speedy trial. Given so many of the issues have been adjudicated, he has gone to court to get the testimony of the Vice President and Legal Counsel in the white house. Some legal experts disagree . Some people think it is not going to happen before the election. That is where the judge becomes critical. You can talk about the judge in terms of admissibility of evidence, right now, the question is how fast is the judge going to move this case along. A number of the people im talking to think it wont happen before the election. I think it is possible. President biden not saying a word. The white house is not commenting. They refer us to the Justice Department and stress the independence of the investigations. President biden is well aware that trump is trying to argue and claim this is politically motivated. Biden doesnt want to say anything to be used to fuel the claims. Trump is running on this, his Legal Defense is the cornerstone of his campaign and his supporters are unwavering. He is dominating. The biden people believe he would be the easiest candidate to beat. But polling shows a dead heat. 43 tied according to the latest poll. Just like everyone watching right now has a Credit Report that determines whether they can borrow money and how much they pay to take on the debt, the u. S. Government has its own Credit Rating and for the First Time Since 2011, that rating has been down graded. From aa a to aa status. What does that mean in real terms . Right now the u. S. Government has about 31 trillion in debt. That debt is growing and its expected to exceed the total size of the u. S. Economy in very short order. And as this downgrade takes place, it makes it potentially harder for the government to borrow money and more expensive. We havent seen that play out yet, but if it were to, it would potentially raise taxes and create cuts in certain government spending, meaning fewer Government Programs in the future. At this point, what we have seen in the stock market is a relatively muted response and part of that is nothing here is new, other than the announcement itself. It acknowledges what has happened in the past and acknowledges the problem going forward, which is that the u. S. Government has too much debt and doesnt have a way to take it down and washington at this point in time doesnt seem to have any kind of agreement around how to deal with the issue. Michael . A manhunt underway after the stabbing death of a man in brooklyn being investigated as a possible anti gay hate crime. Demarco morgan has more. Police say 28yearold oshae sibley, a professional dancer pulled into the service station with friends around 11 00 p. M. Saturday after a day at the beach. Sibley was dancing as they filled up the car. Got out of the car, dancing a bit. Eyewitness says they were confronted by a group saying behavior was offensive to their faith. A Heated Exchange between the two groups. Shortly after, sibley is stabbed, friends seen gathering around him. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. Police have identified a suspect as a teen who remains at large. We will find the person responsible. Putting a spotlight on violence against the lgbtq community. I dont think anyone should be targeted for how they choose to express themselves, regardless of their sexuality. Sibley was one of 11 children and beloved member of the nyc dance community. The former president accused of trying to steal an election that he lost. This morning, the special counsel indicting donald trump in using blistering language in the process. First claiming that trump lost the election, knew it, lied about it and then sought to block the peaceful transfer of power to joe biden. The attack on our nations capitol on january 6th, 2021, was an unprecedented assault on the seat of american democracy. It is described in the indictment, it was fuelled by lies. According to the indictment, trump lost the 2020 election but determined to remain in power and the special counsel says he enlisted others to assist in criminal efforts to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 campaign. The indictment doesnt name them but abc news has identified some of them and likely include trumps attorneys. The 45 page, four count indictment accuses trump of conspiracy to defraud the United States, specifically the january 6th certification of the results showing biden had won. Next, trump is accused of obstruction of an official proceeding and conspiracy against rights, aiming to divide the people of their right to vote and have their votes count. In spreading lies, the special counsel says trump created an atmosphere of trust and anger and erode public faith in election. Going state by state, accusing trump and unnamed of socalled fake electors in seven states, trying to compel the Justice Department of sham election investigations, pressuring Vice President pence to reject votes on january 6th and sending supporters to the capitol to obstruct the certification proceeding. Overnight trumps attorneys went on the attack, claiming trumps actions were conducted on the advice of lawyers and he did not actually believe he had lost the election. The reality is, everything that mr. Trump requested to be done was done with the advice of counsel, with lawyers giving him advice, those lawyers are going to testify. I would like them to try to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that donald trump believed that these allegations were false. Still some legal experts argue that one wouldnt be able to rely on attorneys advice as defense if they were helping. Trump is mocking the new charges calling them ridiculous and saying the special counsel is simply piling on. George. Dr. Kendra field, chief historian of the Initiative Says theres always been a brick wall blocking access to much of black american Family History and genealogy. She says the brick wall is a direct legacy of slavery. 10 million names is a new and ambitious project of american ancestors which aims to recover the names of the approximately 10 million women, men and children who were enslaved in what became the United States. Those 10 Million People have approximately 44 million decentents living today. The slave trade was the primary economy that fuelled the growth of the United States from the early 1600s through 1865. The projects goal, to identify the real names of individuals lost to this tragic history and restore their dignity as well as their decentents. It was often erased or difficult to find. Decentents from say mayflower had access to a whole different set of tools and documents. Over the years, weve had a look into slavery via tv series like the groundbreaking mini series roots and films like 12 years a slave. Easy now. And harriott attempted to portray this painful history but couldnt connect us in a personal intimate way. These are our american ancestors that helped to build this country. The project includes a call to action, where anyone is invited to come forward and share family records that could amplify written and oral histories. The ultimate goal is construct a searchable database. The project is aiming to encourage and welcome people to upload their Family History information, papers, photographs, anything at all to the website. We have known alcohol use has negative effects on our health, now this study coordinated by the American Health association, over 16,000 people and found having one drink a day was associated with elevations of Blood Pressure. Does it mean if someone has high Blood Pressure, you shouldnt drink at all . My recommendation overall, looking at the study from the data here and prior data, those with high Blood Pressure at the beginning of the study generally had worse outcomes. If you are trying to control your Blood Pressure, you should probably cut it out of your diet and everyone else, moderation is key. Women, no more than one drink a day and men no more than two drinks a day and binge drinking is having four or five drinks in one setting and can have really bad effects on our health. It is amazing just one drink can affect Blood Pressure. It can constrict your blood vessels. If you havent started yet, dont start. Thank you doc, appreciate you. I remember seeing eight brighteyed, happy excited young men and every one of them looked me in the eye and every one of them called me sir. The experience changing his life forever. I sat down with my Business Partner and said i need to walk the talk. It is one thing to tell these young people you believe in them and another thing to prove it. Chad started a program to mentor justice involved youth like one who joined the program at 15 yearsold. I was faced with many challenges, one of them having to provide for my family. Cafe momentum gave her a 12 month paid internship to support her family, learn professional skills and have community. Cafe momentum was more than just a job. Someone gave me a reason to keep ongoing. That same momentum being felt by new interns. Cafe momentum is a six to 12 Month Program for juveniles who have made mistakes in life. The idea that you are bringing parts of the Community Together that havent experienced each other, dont know each other, dont know each others lives or life experiences, and bringing them together empowers the community to understand that they can be the change. That everything that is done at cafe momentum is driven by the community. The young people envision themselves as members of the Larger Community than just their neighborhood. And that Larger Community is greater resource not just for them but for their families and might be the most empowering thing that happens. What message does cafe momentum send to the communities it serves . First is knowledge. The idea that the juvenile justice industry term to describe the young people we work with is throw away. That discarded label is something kids wear on their chest that says this is who i have been told i am. For the community to come together, breaking bread, theyre sending a message to the young people that they matter and they believe in them. And that allows our young people to really go from a life of survival to a life of thriving. The work youre doing in texas, youre cooking up Delicious Food and creating a National YouthDevelopment System and giving the kids an opportunity to get the label off their chest and caught the attention of our friends at chase inc. They want to help you pursue your passion as far as opening up the cafe momentums around the country. Theyre giving you 10,000 to get that going my friend. How does that make you feel . You have so many people willing to support you. Its the message that the young people receive. I was thinking about it on the plane coming here. And unhappiness is a habit and it is a hard habit to break. Happiness is a choice. But good change, which i did say in the book, is very threatening it is very scary. Bad change is familiar and feels safe. I love the idea of people embracing good change and it is really scary. And the opportunities come to us at all different ages in our lifetime. It is about having the courage to embrace it. I never thought about i knew about the happiness part but the unhappiness being a habit that is hard to break. It is because you get people in an unhappy situation, they forget what it feels like to be happy. They forget theres happiness out there. It is very limiting and kind of shrinks your world. When you come out of that, it is like wow. Yeah. So lets talk about sabrina, the main character in your book who is a writer. Tell folks about that. She didnt know much about her family, her father. Through this opportunity and inheritance, she learns about her family, her father, herself and she has one of those tough choices to make. I think it happens to all of us at certain times. You have to have the guts to kind of get out there and do it. Okay. So happiness is a choice, it is a gift. I love that, thats the first line of the book. It is true. What brings you you happiness in your every day life . My children, friends. Shoes, jewelry, writing. I love writing, i really love what i do. It is a lot of work but once i get wrapped up, i do everything to avoid starting a book. I have alphabetically organized nail polish you know, anything to avoid it. But the minute i get into it, i love it. And special moments with friends and i have had wonderful moments with you. And they make me happy. And with the people i love. I know. It doesnt have to be something grand or big. It is usually something not grand. Something grand kind of scratches it. Our dinner in paris, that was terrific. I know. I could have talked all night. I think we did talk all night. Look at you. I have been following you as always on instagram and your summer pics and your vacation looks and people sometimes forget, you have a background in fashion. More than in writing actually. Exactly. You do your own, right . Now my daughters keep me honest. I was going to be a Fashion Designer and went and ended up writing instead and fell in love with writing. New Research Highlighting more than two thirds of adults over 71 have hearing loss, just 30 turn to hearing aids. With the recent approval of over the counter sales, the latest is now accessible to people of all ages, including young men and women who hope to remove the stigma. Hearing aids, they arent what grandma used to wear. Bluetooth enabled, mute buttons and music capabilities, hitting the market offering greater appeal to younger adults and just in time. By age 30, about a fifth of americans have had their hearing damaged by noise which includes listening to music at unsafe levels. Once you lose the hair cells of the inner ear that transmit the sound, it is gone forever. You cant replace them. The only thing we can do today for inner ear hearing loss is hearing aids. They have gone from bulky, tacky, ugly piece of machinery on your ear to sleek and sexy hearing aids. 25yearold peter has been wearing hearing aids since age 6 after cancer treatments destroyed 25 of High Frequency hearing and says todays hearing aids come with super cool features. I can connect it to my phone and receive phone calls on it. Essentially theyre glorified air pods. The technology has changed a lot. I can listen to music, which is awesome. I have a mute button which is really nice. 26yearold latin teacher wearing hearing aids for eight years hopes to take the stigma out of the option. I like to show people.
