By the time i took off the dogs, i could not see anything. Very difficult terrain. This is a rural area so getting to these areas is very difficult. Its going down, a plane is going down, and it crashed we all stood up and there is the plane upside down floating in the water. All of a sudden, the guy swam out. Wow, thank god hes alive. Gloria the pilot was the only person on board. The pilot blamed the crash on engine problems. In daly city, firefighters rescued a hang glider from a cliff after he drifted offcourse and crashed into the ocean. The fire chief says the man was able to remove his parachute and made it to shore, but was hit by waves as he waited for help. Fire crews pulled him up from their helicopter about one hour after getting the call. It happened that muscle rock. The man was injured and taken to the hospital. For a second year in a row, the Sonoma County fair is moving forward with a controversial wrestling show despite calls to cancel it. The Event Features wrestlers with dwarfism. In santa cruz county, the city of capitola is recovering after the storms earlier this year nearly destroyed nearby businesses and an iconic wharf. There are plans to rebuild and enhance the wharf now. South bay reporter zach fuentes talked to city leaders about the plans that are underway. Capitola wharf is not only the citys, but it is our county. It is unique to have a beautiful wharf in your city. It means everything to everyone here. Zach but since early this year, the wharf has been closed to the public after the center of it was ripped out by high surf and storms. I saw at the day it happened and it was shocking. Zach extreme damage prompted a visit by president biden. Since then, the businesses along the hardhit esplanade have returned. Beach tourists have also come back, but the wharf remains closed. City officials are working constantly to make a big return. A new project called the capitola wharf enhancement project is underway. Zach since 2017, a resiliency project has been underway to make the wharfs structure stronger. The enhancement project hopes to take things further. That project focuses on what goes on our wharf to make it sparkle. Zach the City Council Plan to review preliminary plans thursday. While the resiliency project has received state and federal funding, the enhancing project has been spearheaded by local leaders. Fundraising for it under the name capitola wharf enhancement project. Both projects are hoped to be finished by summer of 2024. Locals have already weighed in. It has to have the charm of the current pier, but maybe with more to do, more attractions. Zach the city says some additions include a fish cleaning station, shower for beachgoers, and more learning opportunities for kids. Tara campbell talks to those who are incarcerated about what the programs mean for them. Tara from the yard to the classroom. The goal is to transform san quentin from a maximumsecurity prison to a oneofakind rehabilitation center. The state setting aside 380 million to invest in New Buildings and training. We are learning how to code websites. This is one example of a website i built over the course of the last couple weeks. Tara Willie Johnson has been here for more than two decades and says learning to code will serve him well. We are trying to learn new skills so we can get out towards a second chance. Tara coding is one of a handful of educational and vocational programs at san quentin, and all of them have long wait lists. You are one of the lucky ones. I understand not everyone gets in. The waiting list is long. I was real fortunate. These programs only serve a certain number of people. So, we have waiting lists at san quentin and some of them are very extensive. It would be like going to disneyland, but you never get to ride the rides. Tara tearing down this former furniture warehouse is the first step to cutting down those wait times. The plan is to build a 160 million campus by the end of 2025. What we want to create here is not only a more humane lived experience for the residents, more of a connection between the residents and the correctional officers. Tara mayor Darrell Steinberg is the governors lead advisor for san quentins transformation. We want to better prepare the residents for success when they leave, and to reduce the chances that they will commit other crimes. This is something that is an awesome opportunity to really learn because i love music. Music is powerful. It has been a huge part of my journey. Tara hes in the Audio Engineering program. He has also earned a certificate in alcohol and drug counseling. I recognize a lot of the guys getting out have to have two jobs. Im able to do counseling in one component and also work with music and audio. For me, it is the best of both worlds. Tara jason jones believes bolstering the programs will be a big part of reducing recidivism. San quentin is where he learned to code and now he comes to help out. The family originally from arkansas was on their way to a basketball tournament. Police say an officer ran the plate of the car and accidentally searched arizona instead of arkansas, leading him to believe the car was stolen. The mother and her sixthgrade son were ordered to get out of the car. Bodycam video shows the father responding to officers after they realized their mistake. I am a basketball coach.
