More on the accuweather sevenday forecast coming up. Thanks, mike. Happening today the cdc will meet with the countrys top Health Adviser to discuss a possible covid19 vaccine. The fda could approve pfizers vaccine as early as next week. Dr. Tom freeden explained how the cdc is going to decide who gets priority. How many lives are you going to save . Second is what is fair . What is the fair way to do it. The third is, how can we do this openly, transparentally so no backroom deals. Groups with high priority include people in Nursing Homes and essential workers and although a vaccine may be approved soon, the Vaccine Program may face some bumps in the road. When you vaccinate millions of people, some people get sick after the vaccination and you dont know whether that was the vaccine or coincidence. That has to be studied carefully or all sorts of wild rumors flying around. Thats another place where you really need transparency. The full interview with dr. Freiden coming up. Still going to be some frost around and well keep an eye on that, we being me and sue to see if we hear anything about black ice. Above freezing and in the napa valley no fog being reported with mid to upper 30s there. You can see the fog stretching all the way down 101 into the south bay with temperatures from 38 at redwood city to 47 in alameda and we have mid to upper 30s from san ramon, lafayette and vallejo, fairfield, novatto all around 39. So, lets take a look at future radar and as we get into wednesday night and thursday, we get close but then watch that system just fall apart and then all the other ones are heading north until saturday afternoon and then you can see it misses us to the north also. All the rain heading to the Pacific Northwest. Pretty indicative of a la nina pattern with nearly half inch in portland and notice south of there, absolutely nothing. So, its the Pacific Northwest all the way up to alaska getting all of our wet weather. In fact, ill show you how dire it is coming up. First, get over to sue and talk more about that morning commute. Temperatures still around 34 to 46 at 7 00. Not much of a change with what were dealing with. 55 to 60 at noon. Our earliest sunset at 4 50 this afternoon before we get there, well be around 55 to 62 and dropping down into the low to mid 50s by 00 with a few clouds near the coast. It will be dry everywhere today with 60s in most neighborhoods even into yosemite. Look at that nearly 80 in l. A. Today. Two schools in pleasanton are pausing their inperson sports and music camps that comes after students may have been exposed to covid19 at a party over the break. Students from foothill, Village High School and amador valley. Three tested positive for coronavirus. They arent able to trace all the students that went. This is admittedly unfortunate and its not fair. But were hoping that this is a reminder to our community that we need to take this seriously and we need to do this together. Two out of the three schools had inperson programs. The district is now working with the county Health Department for contact tracing. Were starting to see the pandemics effect on our education system. Many third through eighth graders are falling behind in math. Nwea gave standardized tests to students this fall. Many have switched to distance learning. Students scored five to ten percent tile lower. Schools need more resources with a focus on math. They say their study may have underestimated the learning gap for minority students and students from lowincome family because many were missing from school when the testing was done. Today is day of giving and abc7 is proud to show our support for many nonprofits. Many are struggling to fundraise because of the pandemic. Abc7 news anchor jobina fortson highlights one she supports. So many wonderful organizations that help people in the bay area that also need help right now. For giving tuesday, im supporting Junior Achievement of northern california. Empowering students k through 12 across our region and their teachers. Ja is a nonprofit dedicated to teaching students financial literally, Work Readiness through methods that arent taught inside the classroom. I have been volunteering with ja for the last year and a half hosting their Financial Literacy town hall where experts gave students oneonone advice on how to plan their futures. That start of the pan pandemic, raised thousands of dollars and i am one of the organizations newest board members. Prepandemic, students had the opportunity to visit job sites and interact with corporate sponsors and mentors from Companies Like google and the San Francisco giants. In march, ja made the virtual pivot forming online internship opportunities and free virtual programming for teachers. Everything ja offers is free. But it budget has been reduced by 30 due to the instability of its corporate funders and no inperson fundraising events. Such a demand. Students absolutely from all over want to participate. So, knowing that you want to go and do your traditional fundraisers any more, we really are relying on individuals to see the value in students about personal finance. Teaching them how to start a business. Teaching them about jobs and careers and who better to do that than an organization whose primary source of volunteerism is volunteers. The need is urgent for ja and so many other groups. You can find organizations in your community at a abc7news. Com takeaction. Congrats to what theyre doing. Such a tough time and theyre making it happen. Find out more to donate to any of the organizations we support by going to abc7news. Com takeaction. I love day of giving. Me, too. I feel like were learning about so many organizations. They really have such a great need and sometimes its just about being aware and being, you know, able to give what you can. That is exactly right. So, if you are in a fortunate enough position this year to be able to give a little bit of extra. They need it, mike. That is for sure. Im sitting at my desk at home and i have a little stack of all the checks i need to make out to the folks i will help during the season and hopefully you will be able to do that, also. Great opportunity and i hear well have even more other Community Organizations possibly or nonprofits that need our help. So, stay tuned. We have more coming your way. Heres a look at sutro tower. 46 degrees right now. Lets use that in the fact that the fog is going to be the move. Moving south ever so slowly. Were looking at clearer condition than we did just a few minutes ago. Mild highs today on this first day of winter. Tonight minor cooling thanks to fewer areas of fog and drier air and mild highs will continue through the weekend. For today, everybody is in the low to mid 60s around the bay. Around 61 to 65 degrees there. And about 63 to 68 in our inland neighborhood. Our cool spot will be along the coast where temperatures will hang out in the upper 50s with a few clouds this morning and, again, late this afternoon as you can see on our fog forecast. By noon everybody is clearing out. But watch as the clouds try to, well, nestle up next to or snuggle up next to the coast as we head to 5 00 and then watch the offshore breeze develop tonight and the drier air and then only fog in the central valley, thats it. Much easier getting around tomorrow during the commute. 30s in our inland neighborhood and 35 to 45 around the bay. My accuweather with clearing and no rain and definitely some slightly cooler conditions there and bounce back friday and stay a little bit above average as we head through the weekend. All right, lets get back to you for more news. Thank you, mike. Apple has been fined 12 million in italy over claims that iphones are waterproof.
