The fda is scheduled to meet and review the Pfizer Vaccine next thursday. The agency could do the same for modernas vaccine as early as december 17th. Surging covid19 cases have forced San Francisco and san mateo counties back into the purple tier. And that means new restrictions and a curfew. Gyms have to close indoors but can operate outdoors. Top attractions like the academy of sciences are closed. Indoor worship not allowed in purple tier counties. We would like to see something thats more reasonable that errs on the side of safety but also respects our First Amendment right to worship. The new sky star wheel that just debuted last month also has to close. Management is working with people who purchased tickets or rescheduled their visit. The same goes for museums. Santa clara county is worried about the rising covid19 cases there and the number of people who could potentially end up in the hospital. The county announced new rules that just went into effect at midnight. The order includes limiting capacity in stores, a ban on sports, and a mandatory twoweek quarantine for some travelers. The first thing that the mandatory directive says that travel is discouraged, but many packed into cars or headed down here to the airport and hopped on a plane to spend the thanksgiving holiday with family. Now if they traveled further than 150 miles they will have to quarantine for 14 days. The mandatory quarantine for people coming back into Santa Clara County went into effect first thing this morning as average weekly covid cases in the south bay hit new levels this weekend. It covers residents and nonresidents of the county requiring people to selfquarantine at home. The only exceptions are essential workers, people passing through and patients getting treatment at a hospital. No specifications on how a negative test could get you out of quarantine early. Travelers we spoke to described busy bay area airports this weekend. I got off the plane yesterday, got back yesterday, and airports were busy. You know, it doesnt seem like it because you dont see a lot of cars outside and stuff like that, but for some reason inside is just really busy. Santa clara county is requiring transit hubs about the new quarantine. Passengers are supposed to be handed a copy of the order when they arrive in the south bay, so theres no saying youre unaware of it. Its unclear if at all how this order will be enforced, but we do know it will stay in effect until it is either modified or rescinded by the county Health Officer here in Santa Clara County. I believe the next 6 to 12 weeks are going to be the darkest weeks history. Health experts warn that the thanksgiving holiday could become a superspreader. They say restrictions and travel advisories will be necessary for christmas. San mateo and santa clara counties have a new curfew starting tonight going into effect at 10 00 p. M. To 5 00 a. M. That is the second highest count ever. The sevenday average nearly 14,000 cases. The number of people hospitalized is more than 7,400. Thats more than triple what we saw just a month ago on october 29th. The 14day Positivity Rate now at 6. 1 which is double a month ago. Thats an indicator of a real high transmission rate of the violence. Good news out of englands lockdown. Covid19 infections dropped during the second lockdown. Resear researchers had 105,000 people take athome swab tests. Less than 1 of the population has the virus or about 1 in 100 people. So thats down from about 1. 3 from a previous study earlier this month. And their fourweek lockdown ends wednesday. A north bay company is working on a nasal spray to prevent covid19. Parnell pharmaceuticals has to get fda approval before it can make claims about effectiveness. They have done small sample tests but wants to do large clinical trials. Chemical trials. The main ingredient is pentetic acid which is in makeup products. The company is already selling the product on its website. The mill valley School District will resume inperson classes today for the first time in nine months. The district is made up of five Elementary Schools and a middle school. Marin county is the only bay area county that is still in the states red tier. Schools in the purple tier have to now get a waiver. The martinez unified School District is planning on hybrid learning in the spring. The School District will meet today to work out the details. One challenge they face, some teachers cannot return to inperson learning due to health concerns. The district wanted to start hybrid learning for Elementary Schools in january, but because Contra Costa County is in the purple tier, those plans are in jeopardy. And Elementary Schools in the nations Largest School district will reopen one week from today. New york city mayor bill deblasio says testing will be done weekly and consent forms are required for students to return. The city will move to fiveday inperson learning as much as possible. Transitioning away from a hybrid model. President elect joe biden fractured his foot after taking a fall over the weekend. This happened while he was playing with his dog major. A massive covid19 Testing Campaign is under way in four of San Franciscos most vulnerable neighborhoods. This free ucsf run Testing Center at mendal plaza will be in operation through tuesday. 500 tests a day will be administered there. Other testing locations including the one at the 24th Mission Street b. A. R. T. Station, also at st. Anthonys in the tenderloin. These neighborhoods were selected because they have high rates of covid positivity since the beginning of the pandemic. And also high numbers of latinos who we know are particularly impacted by covid19. 6,000 tests will be performed. People will get a rapid test swab with results available in 15 minutes. Theyll get a more accurate pcr swab with results back in a day or two. Santa clara county is worried about the rising covid19 cases as well. That mandatory quarantine for people traveling into the county went into effect first thing this morning as average weekly covid cases hit new levels this weekend. It covers residents and nonresidents of the county requiring people to selfquarantine at home for 14 days before returning to normal activity. The only exceptions are shooe essential workers, people passing through the county, not staying overnight and a patient getting treatment at one of the area hospitals here. There is no testing requirement and no specification on how getting a negative test could get you out of quarantine early.
