High. Biden saying, america is back. New this morning. Meghan, the duchess of sussex revealing she suffered a miscarriage in a powerful New York Times essay and what we now know about the surprising moment she said that helped her move forward. Not many people have asked if im okay. Black friday frenzy. Where you can find the biggest savings starting right now with so many deals online, how to play it smart and save big in a Holiday Shopping season like none other. And the grammy nominations are in. Women dominate the top categories, beyonce comes out on top with a recordbreaking nine nominations. The weeknd blindsided calling the awards corrupt after being shut out. Despite having one of the most acclaimed albums of the year. The backlash this morning. I felt like in an old cardigan and taylor swift joins us live, the superstar releasing her new film overnight, shes telling us all about it this morning only on gma. And good morning, america. We hope you are ready for thanksgiving. We cannot wait to talk to taylor swift and welcome to janai norman. Good to see you. So excited to be here. Trying to figure out who i need to thank for being here the same morning that taylor is here. A lot of news. First, take a live look at hartsfieldjackson airport in atlanta. Millions around the country are hitting the roads and skies for thanksgiving despite warnings from Health Experts to stay home. Thats a startling image right there. This as the daily death toll topping 2,000 for the First Time Since may. Dr. Anthony fauci is joining us with the latest on what we need to know ahead of the holiday weekend, but gio benitez is joining us from Laguardia Airport with more on the thanksgiving exodus. Good morning, gio. Reporter hey, cecilia, good morning. We are definitely seeing a lot more travelers today. This is exactly what the head of tsa told us would happen but now this Morning Health officials are very concerned. Take a look. This could be one of the busiest travel days of the season with air travelers already breaking records during the pandemic, more than 4 Million People hitting the skies since friday. Now tsa administrator David Pekoske telling abc news he expects even more travelers. Between 900 and a million passengers on the wednesday before thanksgiving and probably the busiest day of the entire weekend is going to be the sunday, the return day. Reporter tsa lines have long been considered one of the riskiest parts of flying, so many people packed together touching those bins. Pekoske tells us this week they have opened more lanes. The idea is to allow passengers to social distance while theyre queued up for tsa screening. Reporter sara is flying from ohio to pennsylvania to be with her family. Cincinnati and philly airports relatively empty. People in masks. Just made it through security and it took me about five minutes. Reporter but social distancing at some airports can be hard. Just look at these images, and dont expect those empty middle seats on most flights. You may see some crowded planes like this. With thanksgiving around the corner, testing sites across the country have cars lining up for hours as families hope to test negative before gathering together. But Health Officials are warning against a false sense of security. If youre negative today, you could be positive by thanksgiving or friday. Reporter this as the covid crisis worsens across the country. Another day of record hospitalizations and for the First Time Since may, deaths surpassed 2,000 per day. The midwest getting hit hard, montana, idaho, iowa, kansas and missouri now seeing the most positive tests. Montana at an 18. 71 positivity rate. A glimmer of hope in iowa where just last week, the governor implemented a mask mandate. The state seeing a slight decline in the number of new cases. And the cdc considering reducing the quarantine period for people exposed to the virus. Instead of 14 days, down to 7 to 10 days. The government hoping the change will get more people to comply. And we know about 48 Million People are expected to drive for the holiday. If you are doing that, the cdc says that you should go ahead and only drive with members of your own household, and try to make as few stops as possible to limit exposure, george. Thanks, gio. We are joined now by dr. Anthony fauci. Dr. Fauci, thank you for joining us again this morning. You know, were approaching thanksgiving with the highest death rates, highest caseloads, hospitalizations in months. Whats your final message to the public as we head into this holiday . Well, the final message is to do what weve been saying for some time, to the extent possible, keep the gatherings the indoor gatherings as small as you possibly can. We all know how difficult that is, because this is such a beautiful traditional holiday but by making that sacrifice, youre going to be preventing people from getting infected because we know for sure that people who are without symptoms innocently with no malintention at all goes to a party or goes to a gathering and gets together indoors, you let your guard down and you obviously have to take a mask off if you are eating or drinking. Try to avoid that as much as possible. The sacrifice now could save lives and illness and make the future much brighter as we get through this because, george, well get through this. Vaccines are right on the horizon. If we can just hang in there a bit longer and continue to do the simple mitigation things that were talking about all the time, the masks, the distancing, the avoiding crowds, particularly indoor, if we do those things, were going to get through. Thats my final plea before the holiday. What we dont want to see is yet another surge superimposed upon the surge that you just described which well realize 3, 3 1 2 weeks from now if we dont do these Public Health thing. What do you make of this report, the New York Times yesterday said early data suggests small indoor gatherings are not driving this current spread . What do you make of that . Is it right . Yeah, i think what the confusion is, george, is that when you look at the surges, it is still dominated by larger gatherings, by people who are in indoor places, by bars where people congregate, but when you account for that, there still is transmission among gatherings that appear to be relatively innocent. I mean, if you can go for a small gathering, thats certainly not dominating things, but when you subtract the ones that are really dominating, you see that there is a risk when people do indoor things. Now, i dont mean two, three, four people in a room. Were talking about when people might have a modest size and let their guard down so you dont want people to think that thats the dominating feature of it. But it certainly can contribute to it and thats what we want to do. When you stay away from the bars and when you stay away from the big congregant settings, there still is a danger if you bring people into the home who are not part of the immediate household. There is a risk there. We are also learning that the cdc is considering shortening the quarantine time for people exposed to someone who has a positive test. Does that make sense . Well, you know why it makes sense, george, because when you have the full extent of the quarantine time, it makes people reluctant to get tested because they dont want to say, well, im tested and now i have to stay out of work, i may lose money, im not getting subsidized and i might even lose my job. So if you balance the two, shortening a bit to make it more reasonable for people to say, if i get tested and im positive, im not going to be out for a full two weeks, so it might be that the balance, the better part of this equation would be to encourage people more to get tested so that theyre not out of whatever it is that they need to be their job, their employment, their source of income. Thats the real reason for it. One encouraging sign were seeing is the easing of lockdowns in europe. What does that tell us . Well, you know, what the europeans theyre usually a couple of weeks ahead of us, you know, at every phase of this, so what happens now that they start to plateau, so theyre pulling back down on their lockdowns. We will almost certainly, or may already start seeing it, for those areas, those states, those cities that are fully mitigating with the things that i just mentioned, youll start to see a plateauing hopefully to come down. The one thing we do not want is if we get a surge now, george, over thanksgiving, well have that slow bump plateau, and then slope up again well see in a few weeks which is the reason why were trying so hard to get the message for people to be careful over this thanksgiving holiday. And, of course, likely to see the vaccine start to be distributed in december, sometime in december, but were still seeing hesitancy about the vaccines, taking the vaccine even from healthcare workers. Does that concern you . Well, it concerns me greatly, george, and thats the reason why weve got to continue to get that message out that the process by which the vaccines were made were a standard process that was rapid because of exquisite scientific advances and the investment of an extraordinary amount of money. It did not compromise safety and it did not compromise scientific integrity, and the decision whether it works, i. E. , efficacious and its safe, is going to be made by independent bodies of people who, in fact, have no allegiance to an administration or to a company. Thats what the public needs to understand, that the process is transparent and its independent, and we just got to keep getting that message out, because it would really be terrible if we have, which we do, three now and maybe more highly efficacious vaccines and people dont take it because that will be the solution, george, a combination of Public Health measures and a safe and effective vaccine. We could crush this outbreak exactly the way we did years ago with smallpox, with polio and with measles, it is doable. The president ial transition is formally under way. Have you had any contact with the president elect . Not with the president elect personally, but with his staff. Ive been in contact with ron klain, nothing substantive in the sense of plans but just Touching Base with me telling me that were going to be talking about this very soon now that the transition is in process. Dr. Fauci, thank you for your time this morning. Hope you have a great thanksgiving and i know this has been a challenging year for you. I just want to thank you on behalf of everybody here at gma for always being so accessible and giving your best guidance to the public. Thank you, george, and all the best to you and your family. You know, dr. Fauci has served every president since ronald reagan. I think we can expect that to continue under president elect biden. And that final plea from him, so important. Well turn to the latest on the transition. President elect joe biden set to make a thanksgiving day address and rachel scott joining us. Rachel, the transition finally, finally in full swing. Reporter cecilia, good morning. Yeah, it took 16 days, but president elect joe bidens team is now in contact with every single federal agency. President trump still refusing to concede an election that he lost but the transition process is now fully under way. Joe biden saying that the chief of staff from the two administrations are now in touch. Hell soon start receiving National Security briefings and his team is also in touch with operation warp speed on plans to roll out that Coronavirus Vaccine when it is made available and joe biden wasting no time there rolling out his first picks for his cabinet. Meanwhile, President Trump was back at the white house. He announced a lastminute News Conference that only lasted 64 seconds and he took no questions and came before the cameras touting a stock market that he repeatedly insisted would crash if joe biden were elected. The reality is the stock market just hit that new high and wall street analysts say the transition helped fuel it. 64second briefing as you said and we havent seen much of the president since election day, rachel, but he is going to leave the white house today to take a trip to pennsylvania. Reporter yeah. Sources are telling us that President Trump does plan to head to pennsylvania today to meet with a handful of republican state lawmakers. We are told this is being pushed by the president s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and that overnight close aides to the president tried to convince him out of it. Look, this would all be for show. The president and his allies have lost 30 cases in court. A pennsylvania judge throwing out their case there for lack of any credible evidence and pennsylvania has already certified joe bidens victory, cecilia. There on those legal challenges. Thank you so much. Janai . Turning now to the grammy nominations and the backlash this morning after some perceived snubs. The weeknd calling them corrupt after being shut out and women dominating the categories. Kaylee hartung has more from los angeles. Kaylee, good morning. Reporter hey, good morning, janai. So it turns out you can create music that makes history with its streaming popularity. Even be invited to perform in the super bowl halftime show, but then be shut out entirely from musics biggest night. Im heartless reporter this morning, the weeknd, anything but pleased with the grammys. Ooh im blinded by the light i cant sleep until i feel your touch reporter the canadian artist completely shut out of the nominations after releasing one of the biggest and most praised albums of the year, not to mention the longest running top ten hit in billboard history. The artist harshly criticizing the awards writing, the grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency. He had a massive album with after hours and the song blinding lights is the sound of 2020. So to have a song like that that is not recognized by musics biggest night is shocking. Reporter overnight, the academys interim president acknowledging he was surprised too saying in a statement, his contributions to the Music Community and broader world are worthy of everyones admiration, but adding, unfortunately, every year there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists. Joining the weeknd in club snub this year, halsey, selena gomez, the killerz, luke combs and bob dylan and the chicks. Reporter and then theres justin bieber, puzzled after scoring three nominations in the pop category for his changes album writing, it is undeniably, unmistakably, an r b album. To be clear i absolutely love pop music. It just wasnt what i set out to make this time around. But it was another good year for female artists. Dominating the top category for a third year in a row. Reporter with beyonce reigning supreme with her recordbreaking nine grammy nominations. And speaking of breaking records, taylor swift is back with a vengeance. Its black friday now. Reporter black friday ads pouring in, but in a year filled with Online Shopping instead of the usual shouldertoshoulder crowds, experts say play it smart. 2020 is the year of the smart shopper. That doesnt mean youre just going online, that you are taking a moment to be strategic about what you are buying, where you are buying it from and when you want it. Reporter the National Retail federation predicting a 3. 6 rise in total holiday sales but online sales skyrocketing, 20 to 30 . A number that will strain the covidweakened supply chain and already overburdened retail shipping systems so the first planning point, stores are frontloading the best deals to give themselves more time to get products to you. Many doorbuster deals are life live now. If you see something with a seemingly good price, check it against the historical lowest price on the tracking tool camel camel camel. Its within a few dollars of where you think it should be go ahead and order it. Reporter this vacuum cleaner on sale for 127 at kohls. A quick search at camelcamelcamel says thats the lowest price. Grab it. There are specific stores that have timed doorbuster deals. Walmarts advertised deals are dropping tonight at 7 00 p. M. Eastern. Kohls bringing doorbusters on line at 11 00 p. M. Eastern tonight and best buy with new deals thursday and friday including new stock online of those coveted gaming consoles sold out everywhere. Now, lets talk about amazon. Theyre a little different because they rarely advertise their discounts. But theyre always competitive. So either check their site before you purchase elsewhere or use a price checking tool like popcart that automatically scans other sites and alerts you if it finds a better price. One final tip, if youre shopping for apple products, the Apple Online Store rarely offers discounts. Your bigger chains, though, like walmart, target and best buy usually give the best sales prices, for example, air pod pro earbuds are 249 at the apple store, but when walmarts deals go live tonight at 7 00 eastern, they will be 169. Thats 80 off, cecilia. All right. Well, you just informed me on what im doing at 7 00 p. M. Eastern because thats on my list this year. Becky, thank you so much. Shes revealed heartbreaking details of experiencing a miscarriage writing in an oped for the New York Times, losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief experienced by many, but talked about by few. The duchess of sussex describes the moment in july while caring for her son archie when she says she felt a cramp realizing she was losing her unborn baby. I knew as i clutched my firstborn child, that i was losing my second. Hours later i lay in a hospital bed holding my husbands hand. Reporter she reveals that this moment from last years tour of africa with prince harry when the couple was dealing with intense media scrutiny, was an important lesson for her. Sitting in a hospital bed watching my husbands heart break as he tried to hold the shattered pieces of mine, i realized that the only way to begin to heal is to first ask, are you okay . Its very unusual for members of the royal family to be so open about experiences in their personal lives, particularly ones that are so personal and so painful. Reporter the duchess sharing her experience to help others, just as Chrissy Teigen and john legend documented their experience with pregnancy loss sharing these pictures on social media to help millions of others who have been through similar pain. Its designed for the people that were hurting and john was very uncomfortable taking them. Reporter but meghans oped also applies that lesson of recognition and caring to a world turned upside down. This thanksgiving, as we plan for a holiday unlike any before, many of us separated from our loved ones alone, sick, scared, divided and perhaps struggling to find something, anything to be grateful for, let us commit to asking others, are you okay . In the article meghan describes how she and harry discovered that in a room of 100 women, 10 to 20 of them will have suffered a miscarriage. This is so common. She hopes to end the stigma. Millions of americans around the country are traveling for the holiday despite warnings from the cdc and daily death toll has now topped 2,000 for the First Time Since may. Gio benitez joins us from Laguardia Airport. Welcome back, gio. Reporter hey, george. Good morning again. Yeah, based on what weve seen this week and especially this morning, people are traveling, but dr. Anthony fauci making a final plea this morning right here on gma to stay home. This could be one of the busiest travel days of the season with air travelers already breaking records during the pandemic, more than 4 Million People hitting the skies since friday. Now tsa administrator David Pekoske telling abc news he expects even more travelers. Between 900 and a million passengers on the wednesday before thanksgiving and then probably the busiest day of the entire weekend is going to be the sunday, the return day. Reporter tsa lines have long been considered one of the riskiest parts of flying, so many people packed together touching those bins. Pekoske tells us tsa has opened more lanes. The whole idea is to allow passengers to social distance while theyre queued up for tsa screenings. Reporter with thanksgiving around the corner testing sites across the country have cars lining up for hours as families hope to test negative before gathering together, but earlier this morning dr. Anthony fauci urged americans to stay safe and stay home this Holiday Season. A sacrifice could save lives and illness and to make the future much brighter as we get through this. Well get through this. Vaccines are right on the horizon. If we can just hang in there a bit longer. Reporter and, remember, millions are driving and making stops along the way really elevates your risk of exposure especially if you are traveling with people who do not live with you, george. Okay, gio, important warnings there. Thanks very much. Cecilia. Okay. This is also an important one here. Were going to turn to the economic toll of this pandemic. Millions of americans are being pushed to the edge, struggling to put food on the table during this Holiday Season, and leaving food banks overwhelmed. Abcs Victor Oquendo has more at a food bank in miami springs, florida. Good morning, victor. Reporter good morning, cecilia. This is just the beginning of the line and only a fraction of how many people are out here. This line, it stretches more than a mile down this street. Lets go to our drone so you can get an idea of how many people are here this morning. Just waiting for food. They have been out here for hours and the organizers tell me they should be able to feed about 4,000 very grateful people ahead of the thanksgiving holiday. Feeding south florida and the Parent Organization feeding america say theyve distributed more than 4 billion meals since the beginning of the pandemic and the need is only growing. They tell us that about 40 of the people now relying on food banks never had to go through any kind of food charity before and they are concerned they wont be able to continue meeting this skyrocketing demand. Feeding south florida tells us theyre only getting about 10 of the amount of food they used to get compared to what they had in march, and its a real problem here, cecilia, because pretty soon the food bank funding will essentially be slashed in half and millions are still desperately in need. Cecili cecilia . We are thinking of every one of those families in those cars behind you, victor. Thank you so much. Janai. We want to tell you about an urgent recall. Sunbeam is recalling nearly 1 million of its crock pot sixquart multicookers for a potential burn hazard. The pot can pressurize when the lid is not fully locked which can cause the lid to suddenly detach. The company says 99 people have already been seriously burned. That was sold at major stores and online, and well have more info at our website at goodmorningamerica. Com. Good warning there. Coming up, taylor swift will be joining us live. We dont have to wait another minute for taylor swift. What a year she is having. Just won artist of the year at the amas, and the tentime grammy winner just scored six more nominations, and her new concert film folklore debuted on disney plus overnight. Welcome to gma. Hey. Congratulations on all those nominations. So how does it feel to be closing in on Stevie Wonder and Frank Sinatra for the most wins on album of the year . Oh, wow. First of all, great to see you again, the last time i saw you i think it was in central park. It was. For the concert we did that was so much fun so thank you guys for doing that. Yeah, the grammy news was absolutely unbelievable and in terms of those unbelievable records, i try not to jinx things. To quote Michael Scott from the office, im not superstitious, but i am a little stitious. I get it. Tell us about folklore, clearly a product of a crazy and challenging year for so many all around the world in this year of quarantine. What was it about that experience that got your creative juices flowing . It was really just an amazing chance situation that ended up working with aaron from one of my favorite bands, the national. He had been in a similar creative space. He had been creating all these instrumentals and i my imagination was racing and creating all these story lines and so it really started with collaborating with him then i brought in Jack Antonoff and hes incredible and i cant believe i ended up getting to work with them. It was so crazy to create an album from my house. I had never done that before. I always worked in studios and this was an experience unlike anything else and it really it really changed i think what this year would have been for me emotionally and mentally. And then you topped it off by directing this movie. I know youve directed music videos before, but this is the first time youve directed a movie folklore. It dropped overnight on disney plus. And the first time you actually got to be in the same room through the whole production of this album with aaron and jack . Yes, it was actually. And one thing that is so amazing about getting to create with your collaborators is taking those songs from the studio and then getting to perform them and getting to connect with fans and obviously were doing things a little bit differently this year because concerts arent happening and so many times jack and aaron and i have said to each other like wouldnt it be so amazing if we could get in a room and perform these songs together and kind of feel that connection to the music in a live sense and provide a way to, in a way, do a concert for the fans and so i, you know, we figured out a way to do it where we quarantined completely. We had six fixed cameras in the studio. We had a robotic camera moving around the studio and disney plus, they have been such amazing collaborators in creating something that we wanted to feel like listening to the record felt and like making the record felt. Just kind of full of warmth and as cozy as it was for us to create this music. Yeah, thats one of the ironies of quarantine, isnt it . That it did sort of foster that sense of coziness for so many in a sense of really whats most important in life. It really does draw so much into profound focus. What matters to you appreciating the things that you have, appreciating your health, protecting it, trying to live in a way that is responsible for you and other people, the one thing that i knew i needed to keep me afloat was music and im really grateful that i had that and also really grateful that the fans loved it in the way that they did and saw where i was coming from and i think they let their imaginations run wild with these stories too which made me really happy. A lot of fans watched the movie overnight and got a big reveal. We finally learned the identity of your mystery collaborator, william bowery. You know one thing about this special is that we got to delve into how we made the album, stories behind these lyrics and it was really great to get to go behind the scenes and tell people but you got to watch it in order to get it. I knew you werent going to spoil it. Before we go, my daughters as you know are superfans of yours and their first concert besides the wiggles wasnt that gma concert at the central park, it was actually times square in 2014 and my daughter elliott had a question for you. Want to play it for everybody. Taylor, im a huge fan and i want to congratulate you on all your grammy nominations. Theyre so well deserved. I wanted to ask you what song are you most excited to prerecord from your previous album . Love you. Have fun. Ah, love you too. That was such a great question and that is so sweet. Thank you for sending that in. That was a great question. Ive been having a really good time rerecording my older music and i think my answer to that is so far of the ones ive recorded i think its been the most fun doing love story because the older music, my voice was so teenaged and i sometimes when i hear my older music and my older young teenage voice it makes me feel like im a different singer now so its been the most fun to rerecord ones that i feel like i could possibly improve upon the song, so thats been a really amazing, fun adventure and, yeah, amazing question. Well said. Well asked. My girls always say the old songs always bring them back to their childhood. [ laughter ] taylor, thank you for joining us. We hope you have a great thanksgiving with your family. Congratulations on all your success. Thank you and same to you and your family and thanks so much for having me. You guys are the best. Thank you. Folklore the long pond studio sessions is streaming now exclusively on disney plus. That was great. We have three chefs here, two fingers crossed to prevent a disaster in your kitchen. Eden grinsphan is talking turkey. Jeff mauro from the kitchen and come on over is from chitown, and Jamika Pessoa has Sweet Solutions for your desserts from tennessee. Welcome to you all. All right. Were going to kick things off with our chefs giving you the quick tips and tricks that you need to know right now for your thanksgiving dinner. So eden, youre up first. What are the top things we need to know when making turkey . Okay, tip one, roasting rack. Super important to get air circulation underneath your turkey. If you dont have a roasting rack, aluminum foil will be your best friend, wrap it up, coil it up and put it at the bottom of your roasting rack and turkey on top. If you dont have aluminum foil go for the classic vegetable, we just really want to get that air underneath so it gets beautiful, golden and just crispy kin crispy skin is just the key here. Second tip is your wishbone. Okay. Take the wishbone out before you roast it. Ask your butcher to do this, super simple. If you cant do it, take a paring knife by the breast and scrape it out, a paper towel will help you grip it and it will just make for a beautiful carved breast turkey. Absolutely love that tip. And now stuffing, people talk about stuffing all the time for thanksgiving. I dont stuff my turkey and let me tell you why, because when you stuff a turkey, it adds time to the roast. You dont want to keep your turkey in there longer than you need to. That will dry out the breast. Always put the stuffing on the side and what you can do with that cavity is fill it with aromatics, put some flavor in there. You can do orange, you could put sage, apple, lemon. You can get super creative with it and that will own sure beautiful flavor on the inside but a beautiful roast, an even roast throughout. A lot of good advice there. Lets talk about sides, jeff. All right, so my first tip for side, hello, everybody, there in new york. Nice and rainy here but that doesnt matter. Showering ourselves in flavor as well. First tip is use evaporated milk in your mac and cheese. I know you get a couple cans and mix it with a combination, trinity if you will of grated cheeses, something creamy, something sharp, something funky and let it simmer and let it melt, a little mustard and youll get the most gratifying dare i say the taylor swift of mac and cheese because its so gratifying. Its an easy little hack. You omit it from the stove, boom. Another thing, were missing a lot of high notes on our thanksgiving table. Spice, right . Crunch. Acid so you can do the chicago way and use this. Were shipping it giardiniera. Cornucopia of vegties, youll thank me all day. Put it on your green beans. Next, go to the pantry to bump up the flavors and the textures in your kind of bready sometimes textureless stuffing, lets be honest. So i added some nice, crunched pecans right in there. Right from the pantry. Already had them in there, and they bring sweetness and fun, and tartness. Dried cranberriecranberries, mi stock in there, and put it in the oven and adding more color, right . Something different than just the sage and bread and butter which are all great. All you do is go to the pantry, take the evaporated milk and that hot giardiniera and bump up the flavor and texture. You guys are making me hungry. Jamika, youre up next. Top tip for your dessert. Everybody loves a pie, a pretty pie. If you cant get perfectly crimped edges simply take some tongs and pinch those edges so you can get something that you can be proud of. Do a nice pattern around the edges there, really simple and then believe it or not theres a lot of Household Items you can use to put some nice texture, put patterns on the top of your pie crust. Now, ive got my daughters legos here, believe it or not, nice impression around the pie. You can even use bubble wrap. That will give it a nice 3d di mention type of pattern on it and all you have to do is i have my rolled out dough here and ive got a doily on top and using a rolling pin. Apply pressure around the edges and impress that. This looks incredible. Jamika, thank you so much. Our experts will be back and stay with us. Well be right back. Us. Well be right back. Good morning, everyone. Im kamasi aaron from abc 7 mornings. Happening today, one of the most popular Holiday Events will be underway in the east bay. Its the annual lighting of the old oak tree in downtown danville. Crews started putting up the lights earlier this week and of course, because of the pandemic, this years ceremony wont be a Live Community event. Instead, the town of danville is asking the public to watch virtually, starting at 6 15 tonight when the ceremony gets underway, or you can drive by the tree after its lit up. Thats good to know, because it usually happens on black friday. Lets take a look at whats going on with your commute planner. A little bit of fog in the north bay and some mist and drizzle still hanging around the south bay, thanks to our contemld fro. Its pretty quiet. Lets talk about tomorrow. And amy, you are not only a homeowner, youre a business owner, a bar that was forced to close during the pandemic, plus your partner is a Frontline Health care worker. What does this money mean to you . Does it take a little bit of the pressure off . It will, especially with were looking at being reshut down again and my partner being a nurse, were looking at the possibility of having absolutely no income, and this money will save us from losing everything that we worked very, very hard for. Thank you. Well, thank you to you guys for being here and for all youre doing in your communities and, sara, thank you, and to the entire team we wish you happy, healthy and safe thanksgiving. At some point. There they are. You know what that means its thanksgiving 911 right here on gma. Were going to save your holiday. Save our holiday. We need the help too. Jeff, jamika and eden are back with must have recipes for your menu this year. Jeff, we are going to go back to you. You got two sides that you say are easy to make at home. What you got . Were focusing on the bread portion of the meal here which everybody is kind of in it for as well. You need good fresh bread and cornbread type stuff. I have bread ill pull out real quick that believe it or not, guys, i didnt bake this in the oven. I just crisped it up there. We baked thiis is a no knead slw bread recipe, so satisfying. Slathered in butter and clear up the precious real estate, and do it on your stove top or plug it into your counter and make fresh bread. You dont have to touch it or knead it and bake it literally. This is just done, perfect. And then you just throw a little butter on top and crisp it up under the broiler to give it a little crunch to it. Love it. Youll never need bread again, need. No knead, knead, cornbread. Dont be afraid. How do we bump it up and make it less brittle . Add a half cup of sour cream full fat. Usually you feed a cup of milk in it. Substitute half milk for half sour cream, and this adds such creaminess and such moisture and richness and do it in a muffin tin, man, come on. Again, make them individual, less cutting, less to do. Less prep. And these stay so much moister in the muffin tin so do them a day before. Paint it with a little butter on top. Flash it in the oven like 400 for a couple of minute, invigorate it. Make it buttery, creamy and everybody will roll out of your house uncomfortably. Isnt that the goal for thanksgiving . We need all the carbs and bread and, jamika, we need everything that youre telling us about desserts. Yes, we are still talking pies and im doing my air fry hand pie so no more fighting over who gets the largest slice. Right here i have pie dough cut into fourinch rounds and simply going to fill the width. I have blueberry preserves here, teaspoon in the middle. Use whatever preserves you have in your pantry and im adding in some diced fresh apple. You can use dried fruit if youd like and ill go around the edges quickly with my finger to seal it up and you can have fun with this like add chocolate chips and marshmallows to your pie, make a smores pie like get creative. I just fold it over and pinch the ends with a fork like we have here and then brush on a little egg wash so we can bake it off then, of course, a little bit of turbinado sugar. Sprinkle it on top and will add sweetness, crunch and texture. In your air fryer, it will come out, got to show you these beauties. You see this . Okay. Who does not love that right there . Beautiful air fry hand pies and now for those that are using your pie dough from scratch. Making it from scratch. You got to Pay Attention to the signs here, rolling out your dough and it keeps shrinking back, thats a sign it needs to rest, stop fighting with your dough, roll it up in a ball, wrap it in plastic, put it in the fridge for 30 minutes and let it rest. The next time you roll it out it will keep its shape perfectly and be ready to bake, no more shrinkage on your pie dough from scratch. My last tip is the butter. Dessert, everything will have butter in it. Probably for your thanksgiving dinner but make sure were ready. A few sticks i leave out on the counter overnight so they can stay soft for my recipes and require softened butter and put a few sticks in the freezer so biscuits and pie dough that need cold butter, all i do is take it out of the freezer and grate it right into my flour so that makes it incorporate a lot easier into my dough so butter is ready when youre ready. You had me at butter but a fabulous tip. Well talk turkey with eden. What you got . Okay, to baste or not to baste . Super controversial for thanksgiving. I say baste and i also say glaze. I absolutely love a glaze on a turkey. Get that lacquered look and what i like to use is something thats sweet obviously, i have honey, you can use maple syrup. You can use brown sugar and i like to mix it with a beautiful tart juice. So i have apple cider. You can use orange juice, pomegranate, anything, mix it with butter. The butter gives it moisture and beautiful golden crust and melt it down and glaze your turkey and itll be so gorgeous. Another tip, okay, we got a spatchcock turkey here. Looks kind of funny but let me tell you, the time that it takes to make this turkey is half the time that it actually makes to roast a regular turkey. You take the spine out, you flatten it out and break the actual chest plate and then you just kind of throw it into the oven. It takes less space in the oven, takes less space in the fridge when holding it. More crispy golden skin and it is gorgeous. Breast also not dry out this way and just make sure that the internal temperature of the thigh is 165 degrees. And then you are golden. It is just perfect. I might be ambitious and try that this year. All right, guys, dont go anywhere because we are not done with all of these tips. The chefs are answering your thanksgiving 911 questions when we come back. All right, welcome back to gma. Its coming. Its coming. Oh, its the gobble. Not the siren. That can only mean one thing, it is our viewer round of thanksgiving 911 as we hack your holiday here on gma. Eden, jeff and jamika are back. Lets get right to it. Okay, so this will make so many of you happy, dessert first. We have a facebook viewer question from chad. Is it okay to buy store bought fillings and how can we spruce it up to make it look homemade . A man after my own heart. All right. Great question, chad. Of course, its totally okay to take shortcuts. The key is so it doesnt take taste like you took shortcuts, so like filling with marmalade or lemon curd. Nutella is great and even i say a good shot of bourbon goes a long way in any dessert says the pregnant lady. Put bourbon in it, i know but what i love to do is right here, i have some apricot jam in the shell of my pie dough and im going to spread it out an even layer on the bottom. What that will do is add a sweet and tangy and tart flavor to my pumpkin pie and then all ill do is put my pumpkin pie filling right on top of that so when your guests are raving like, mm, this is amazing, and mesmerized by the dimension of flavor they have no idea that that filling came out of a can. There you go, chad. We love it. Take that, chad. Sounds delicious. Eden, this is from christina on facebook. She asks, i am looking for a different sauce to serve with turkey besides gravy this year. Any recommendations . Oh, absolutely. I absolutely love gravy, but for me i find that this meal like being able to put a new sauce on the table, especially Something Like a chimichurri would lighten up the meal so incredibly well. Chimichurri is fresh herb, olive oil. You can put shallot, garlic and brighten it up with vinegar and that elevates flavors and goes with everything. Honestly everything on your thanksgiving table. Also dont forget about garlic, guys. I absolutely love a whole head of roasted garlic. You can literally just squeeze it out of the head, the creamy garlic will come out. You can make a spread with that or you can come feed the garlic clove, put it in olive oil with beautiful herbs an can just serve that alongside your turkey and sides and its just another way to get another condiment on the table like im all for that. Oh, my goodness. My mouth is literally watering having to wait for thanksgiving. Jeff, finally spicing up sides. Donna from facebook asks do you have any outside the box side dishes . I want to try Something Different this year. All right, donna, we love you for that question because this just opened a new door at the thanksgiving table and that is deep frying. Theres not enough crispy golden brown deep fried stuff at the thanksgiving table. So i recommend this little trick, right . This is great for leftovers in a couple of days, take your favorite stuffing, talk about outside the box this, is the stuff from inside the box totally appropriate and were going to add fresh Parmesan Cheese we grated ourselves and go through standard station, flour, egg and bread crumb and scoop out these little ball, run it through this, dredge it in the flour, coat in the egg and put it in panko and get the fryer going, use your air fryer for this and well make nice and crispy and serve it with a homemade Barbecue Sauce and all we did to this, guess what, guy, we added in some cranberry sauce or cranberry, all that stuff goes in there and mix it with your barbecue and simmer it and great dipper for your fried beautiful balls of stuffing. How about that, huh . Thank you, jeff. Youre welcome, jeff. Jeff. Thank you so much. Im happy. Do we have to wait .
